The exhibition 'Sleeping Beauties' @metcostumeinstitute @metmuseum in New York is really wonderful. All the press and vulgarity of the opening pushed aside that the exhibition is brilliant, brilliantly displayed and of marvellous works of art and costumes. Thanks to #metinternationalcouncil we had a quiet look and it opens with a sublime #brancusi sculpture and displays throughout dresses which have to be kept in a dormant state for their preservation. I really enjoyed the French 18th century pieces. Does anyone make corduroy nowadays with the base a different colour to the pile ? I had a pair of dark maroon and navy blue trousers in the 80s by someone like Jean-Paul Gaulthier which were so subtle and smart. I was stunned by the embroidery on two 1950s Dior dresses, the second one with smaller flowers given to the Met by Mrs. Byron C. Foy - that C stands for something familiar and one of her grandsons and his wife follow my Instagram - hello ! It seems that your grandmother had top taste in everything. One word of warning to the ladies, if you are planning a visit to this show don't wear yellow as there is a room of yellow dresses which is going to challenge anything you are wearing today. I loved last night’s #MetGala theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with a dress code of “The Gardens of Time.” We see some unexpected interpretations and remakes of historic fashion looks. I especially loved @lanadelrey ’s remake of #AlexanderMcQueen 2007 runway look. But there were so many original pieces as well that were stunning. I loved the @ellefanning ’s crystalline #Balmain gown that called forth J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story “The Garden of Time” (so ON POINT!). AND @MindyKaling’s stunning #GauravGupta ’s gravity defying dress aptly titled “The Melting Flower of Time” which is meant to represent a bud withering through time. In honor of last night’s sartorial poetry, I went through my own vintage archive to see what I would have worn that felt suited to the theme. Here’s my round-up: Slides 1-2: #1940s Jacques Fath dress that I bought for a song from the venerable @shrimptoncouture. The stains were painted over by an amazing Philadelphia-based #silkpainter, @drawntothewax Slides 3-4: 15-year old @Ender_Legard corset worn with an 15-year old @Balmain suit. I love the deep V and the sheen of this corset which feels evocative of a Calla Lily Slide 5: 1930s embroidered lace dress from @desertvintage. The soft layered ruffling around the sleeves and the hem make it perfectly on-theme with the floral dress code Slides 6-7: 2019 @maisonvalentino from @shrimptoncouture with its gorgeous pleating and watercolor like floral details around the skirt Slide 8: 1930s body-skimming silk dress from @shrimptoncouture. In a magazine from 25 years ago, I stumbled upon the ad campaign for YSL’s FW 1999/2000, which struck me for its enduring freshness, despite my clear memory of it. The campaign stars, Stella Tennant and Iván de Pineda, posed in stark black and white, their figures carved out in bold, graphic contrast, playing a subtle and elegant game of gender identity swap, all under the lens of photographer Philippe Cometti. This vision immediately brought to mind the brief tenure of the brilliant Alber Elbaz at YSL. With the third anniversary of Elbaz’s passing approaching on April 24, I wish to commemorate this pivotal, albeit less remembered, phase of his career.“After New York, I moved to Paris to work for Guy Laroche. A year later, Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent called to see me. I had always dreamt of working with Saint Laurent, but I never thought that he would ask me to replace part of his work. From 1998 to 2000, I did the RTW, and he did the couture. I don’t think that, at the time, I understood the importance of taking on a house like that—that it was not really a house but an institution, a symbol of France. It was very interesting, but it was not the easiest moment of my life, I have to be honest,” Elbaz reflected on this period in an interview with W. Throughout his tenure, Yves never attended any of the Rive Gauche shows conceived by Elbaz. Nonetheless, Elbaz succeeded in creating three remarkable Rive Gauche collections before being dismissed when Gucci, having acquired YSL, appointed Tom Ford as the designer. With the FW 2000 collection, his last for YSL, Elbaz hit the mark, crafting a timeless wardrobe of extraordinary elegance and contemporaneity, a feat matched only by Margiela for Hermès during the same period. “YSL is not about the past and it’s not about the future. Paolo Roversi est la seule exposition qui m'a déçu à la galerie Galliera. Паоло Роверси единственная выставка которая разочаровала меня в Дворце Галльера. Одна из главных площадок для модных выставок в этот раз Галльера представила весьма скудную выставку да и к тому же нижняя галерея была закрыта. Один из талантливейших и интереснейших модных фотографов снимавшего для известных марок и журналов Dior, Comme des Garçons, YSL, Vogue, W. Итальянец Паоло Роверси. На выставке представили практически только портретные работы с Моделями ( пусть и восхитительные) и немного рекламной кампании Yamamoto. Хотелось увидеть больше модной фотографии , для марок и журналов. Может дополнить выставку дополнительными материалами, инструментов которые использовал до съемки или документальные фото, платья из коллекций которые он фотографировал. Не верится что в запасниках музея моды ничего не нашлось. L'un des photographes de mode les plus talentueux et les plus intéressants qui ont photographié pour des marques et des magazines célèbres: Dior, Comme des Garçons, YSL, Vogue, W. photographe italien Paolo Roversi L'exposition a présenté presque que des portraits avec des mannequins connues (bien qu'ils sont magnifiques) et un petit aperçu de la campagne publicitaire Yamamoto. Je voulais voir plus de photos de mode, pour les maisons de mode et les magazines. Iils ont pu compléter l'exposition avec des matériaux supplémentaires, des outils utilisés pour photos ou des photos documentaires, des robes des collections qu'il a photographiées. Je doute que les réserves du musée de la mode n'avait rien .
