‘Lagaf’: Les Aventures de Moktar - Vol.1: La Zoubida’ - Atari ST (1991) 🐪 📖 Story : A little background is needed here. The game is based on a song by Lagaf’, a french show host and singer at times, particularly famous back in the 90s. The song’s content is quite controversial to say the least, but no one really cared back then I guess. 🎶 Music: The song on which the game is based was a huge hit in France, staying at the top of the French Single Charts for 11 weeks, selling over 600,000 units. You can hear the tune throughout the levels. 🎨 Graphics: Graphics were not bad at all, with many different levels, each filled with the common gaming stereotypes of the time. It’s colorful and has its own atmosphere for sure 🕹 Gameplay: The game is a classic platformer, but a pretty good one at that. Some parts can be challenging but you can find checkpoints and passwords here and there. 🤔 Verdict: The game, when talking gameplay / graphics, is actually pretty good and an international version was released as ‘Titus the Fox: From Marrakech and Back’. Time Bandit from Microdeal often features very highly on lists of best ever Atari ST games, although it’s not one I was familiar with BITD. Perhaps what is most remarkable is that in 2010 “The Time Lord’s Handbook” was published, a 166-page detailed clue book and companion manual by the original coder of the game, and it is still available on Amazon to this day! The game itself seems simple enough to pick up, entering different worlds from a central hub screen, shooting enemies and searching for the key to exit the level. However, it clearly has a lot of hidden depth, with parts for entering text, a level like Pac-Man, and various puzzles which I have not even scratched the surface of. Any #atarist fans seen this one. The Tengen Trilogy is a UK Only 1990 release for the Atari ST, Amiga, Zed X Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. We will be focusing on the ST version today as we explore the history, reviews and may crack the seal on my unopened copy of this Atari Games compilation to the Atari ST range of computers. Tengen was the home arm of Atari Games, who could not publish console or computer titles under their own moniker after the Split from Atari Corp in 1984. Because of this, they chose the Tengen name and began self porting to the NES and Sega Master System or licensing out ports of the post 1985 Atari coin titles to the likes of Domark and others. If you were an owner of an Atari 2600, 7800 or Atari 8 bit in the USA, you might have looked on in jealousy as some of the best Atari Coin ops stopped being produced for your machines with the rise of the NES, Sega Machines and even the Turbografx 16. The only Atari console to get a significant amount of Tengen releases as the Atari Lynx, but well before it finally started receiving good ports of these games, the 7800 languished with no new flood of Atari coin op titles, leaving a gulf for Atari openers who had grown up playing some of the best p[orts on their Atari branded machines. Oh, but an Atari System besides the Lynx did get some significant support in the way of an abundance of Atari Games titles, many with the Tengen label from a company called Domark, who were prolific in producing Atari games licensed titles for the ST. From APB to Hard Drivin’, the ST received a wealth of ports to satisfy the hungry Atari gamer.

The game I played most on while #atarist gaming, at least competitively. A gem really and still plays well to this day… it is very unforgiving if you hit something and those damn white cars aim for you, even slow down and hit you I reckon. But it was great to play and as one of the only #atari games I ever completed on hard, it remains to this day the hardest achievement (and I got the Halo ODST 4 player achievement for the online multiplayer, when their servers were slow/dodgy and not many people were playing it), but that is a story for another day… Ask me it’ll take an hour 🤣🤣

NITRO - Psygnosis 1990 (Amiga) Sviluppato e pubblicato da #Psygnosis nel 1990 per #Amiga e #AtariST, il grande #Nitro è un videogioco di gare automobilistiche con vista dall’alto, che consente di giocare in multiplayer fino a tre giocatori. I tanti tracciati disponibili sono zeppi di power-up da prendere, ma anche di ostacoli, scorciatoie, strade chiuse, e chi più ne ha più ne metta. La difficoltà è molto ben bilanciata, vi troverete all’inizio a vincere qualche garetta, ma dopo qualche circuito verrete risucchiati nel ‘vortice della bestemmia gratuita’, perché la velocità e l’intelligenza artificiale dei nemici aumenta in maniera esponenziale. Oltre ai vari power-up durante le gare si possono raccogliere anche dollaroni sonanti, utilissimi per potenziare la propria vettura e cercare di competere decentemente con gli agguerriti avversari controllati dalla Cpu. Ultima nota: i circuiti di notte richiedono il controllo assoluto dei nervi, e se posso darvi un consiglio, prima di premere sull’acceleratore della vettura a fari accesi, rimuovete tutti gli oggetti ‘fragili’ dal campo di azione delle vostre mani e dei vostri piedi. Just listening to @petshopboys actually and reminded me of the role that the Atari ST had in 80s and 90s electronic music. When I was at secondary school I studied music and we were fortunate to have a good investment in instruments. We had an Atari 1040 ST running Notator software connected to a Yamaha DX7 and a Roland D-110 multi timbre sound module (this had wicked samples) using MIDI.
