Christmas 2000 I got two DVDs, Ridley Scott's Gladiator and James Cameron's The Abyss. Up until now, that was the first and last time The Abyss had been released on CD-sized physical media, and ever since the blu-ray format was introduced the almost two decades ago people have been asking for it to return in high definition. Finally, the day is here, and alongside it a whole bunch of other Cameron films. With these, and T2, we're only missing the first Terminator film in 4K. Hope it's not too far off! (For anyone thinking of commenting on Piranha II: The Spawning, don't. I left it out for a reason!) James Cameron truly is one of my favourite filmmakers of all time. He's telling compelling, easy to grasp stories with likeable characters and he's a technical wizard, constantly pushing the technical boundaries of cinema and raising the bar for everyone else. I'm not ashamed to say I consider him a true genius at his craft. Also, since my lovely fiancée @natali_lethargi knows of my adoration for Cameron's work she also got me the Dark Angel game for PS2, which brought a smile to my face, as I had completely forgotten that was even a thing, and was also Jessica Alba's breakthrough role I'd assume. "Alien" film scores review #3: "Alien³" (1992) . It's no secret that the production of "Alien³" was a mess. Multiple directors, multiple visions, and one release date. Some think the final result is terrible, some (although fewer) think it's great. I land somewhere in the middle. Third director David Fincher showed glimpses of the visionary he is and damned if this one doesn't have a distinct visual personality. The camera always seems to be at everyone's shoe tops (possibly due to this particular Xenomorph being a hybrid grown inside of an ox...or dog depending on which version you watch). But everyone being shorn bald and some fractured characters make for a lot of confusion, too. It's definitely a mess, but not an unwatchable one. . Through all of it, Elliott Goldenthal's music is as disjointed as the film itself. Despite a wonderful, brassy main theme, the rest of the music feels like the kitchen sink and all the dirty dishes in it. It's dark, foreboding, and fatalistic. In other words, I kinda dig it. That said, it doesn't make much of an impression and, as an album, is a tough listen. I've tried many times over the years to rewatch the Alien movies & still I fall asleep or just don't seem to enjoy them. It's a different story when talking about the Xenamorph itself or more recent movies in the franchise, Prometheus & Covenant as I've loved the monster always an the newer movies provide better context as well as storyline for me personally. When I read recently that they are putting Alien back in some cinemas it made me take a look at the franchise again but sadly by Aliens I fell asleep. I managed to pick this pop up last year from @ebgamesau, perfect addition to my horror pop collection. 👌💚 Do you have this problem? I’ll review a Disney Pixar film title that I watched 🎥🎞️ Finding Dory (2016) ファインディング・ドリー This movie is the sequel to Pixar Animation Studio’s blockbuster “Finding Nemo” ‘s after 13 years. The film follows the adventures of “Dory”, Paracanthurus who is best friends with Marlin and Nemo from the previous film, as she searches for her forgotten family. The plot of this movie is about, It has been a year since the adventure in which “Marlin” the clownfish and “Dory”the Paracanthurus rescued his beloved son “Nemo” from the human world. The three of them were living peaceful lives until one night, when Dory dreams of memories with her parents that she had forgotten. Dory is forgetful, forgetting not only the past, but even what she has just happened. This dream makes her decide to search for her parents, whom she thought she had forgotten. With the only clue being the “Jewel of Morro Bay, California,” she discovers that the secret of her parents and Dory’s birth in the Marine Biology Institute, a facility where humans protect sea creatures. My thought about this film, it has depicted the roles of Nemo from the previous film and takes a replace of Dory as protagonist. Dory has a symptom that makes her forget things to an extreme extent, so the highlight of the film is how she deals with society through this character with a developmental disorder. Contrary to her intentions, there are times when she has difficulty understanding other people’s feelings and is not good at reading the mood, but she’s still very aware of herself and is trying to overcome this. I really thought provoking through this story. Acho que não há outra palavra pra descrever "Alien" a não ser: icônico. Eu poderia facilmente começar falando sobre o impacto dessa saga no mundo cinematográfico e a crescente abordagem/criação de seres de outro planeta. Mas calma, tudo no seu tempo. E por falar nisso, uma das coisas que gosto demais é o jeito como as coisas levam tempo pra acontecer, não de maneira demorada demais ou super apressada, mas de forma com que possamos absorver o que estamos presenciando. Todos os acontecimentos vão culminando para o momento onde um dos tripulantes entra em contato com uma criatura grotesca e intrigante. Definitivamente uma das cenas mais emblemáticas (e traumatizantes) do cinema nasceu aqui. Com certeza muitos de nós já tivemos contato com aquela cena clássica onde um pequeno ser sai do peito do personagem Kane e deixa todos os tripulantes em choque. A sensação de isolamento também vale ser mencionada. A ambientação da nave é bastante crível e aumenta em níveis absurdos a sensação de estarmos sozinhos no espaço... Mas com um alien em nossa cola. Tudo isso é levado as últimas consequências principalmente nos momentos finais do longa, o que nos deixa ainda mais apreensivos. Outro ponto de destaque que não poderia ficar de fora é nossa querida Ellen Ripley, a única sobrevivente da Nostromo (junto ao gatinho Jones) e, consequentemente, uma das primeiras "final girl". É nítido que com todos os acontecimentos traumatizantes ela está assustada, mas faz o que precisa ser feito: iniciar o processo de autodestruição da espaçonave, fugir do xenomorfo e salvar a si mesma e o gatinho. O design do alienígena é um show a parte. Desde quando está no ovo até o momento que atinge sua forma final, o aspecto da criatura causa pânico e passa veracidade. "Alien, o Oitavo Passageiro" ou apenas "Alien", continua influente ainda nos dias atuais, sendo usado como referência em diversos arquivos de mídia e na cultura pop, um claro sinal de que um bom filme sobrevive mesmo com a passagem do tempo.
