Name a random Clipper player you liked but no one else seems to remember. I'll start... Jawun Evans. -Jawun Evans was a point guard coming out of Oklahoma State. Originally selected with the 39th pick in the second round by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Clippers then traded for him in exchange for cash considerations. Jawun wasn't meant to really play at all given the teams plans at pg already with the newly acquired Milos Teodosic from the Euroleague as well as Patrick Beverley and Austin Rivers. However, this was 2017-18 and if you know anything about this season, it was the season of injuries for the Clippers. Pat Bev missed the majority of the season after a meniscus injury on his knee. Teodosic also suffered his fair share of injuries that caused him to miss time. That gave Jawun Evans his chance. -His numbers don't stand out but watching him every game he played was fun. He reminded me of a young rookie CP3 in the sense that he had good explosiveness and could get to the rim effortlessly. He played some solid defense and even was a big factor in helping us win before Christmas on the road against the 65 win Houston Rockets. I still remember him drawing that sixth offensive foul on James Harden late after Harden tried to shove him out of the way cause Jawun was locking him up. The 21-year old was definitely not afraid to put his body on the line and I really thought he had potential. A shame I never got to see him again in the NBA but I will always cherish that one season he played with the Clippers. I do not hate Kawhi Leonard. I just hate that he's always injured. I hate that the Clippers invested so much in this man for nothing. I hate that he never is there for us when we need him and I hate that we're now stuck with him. Its not Kawhi's fault. I bashed and blamed him for being hurt in the past and that was wrong. The man can't control injuries and I know he wants to be out there. I know that he would play and be there if he could. The thing is he can't and I don't know if theres a happy ending to his story as a Clipper. As the seasons go by, Kawhi Leonard gets older and more fragile. As a result, his body is starting to break down. The injuries he's suffered on the Clippers these past three years are stacking up and I don't think it's gonna get any better. Torn ACL in 2021. Torn meniscus in 2023. Knee inflammation in 2024. The guy can't catch a break. -Even before the Clippers, injuries were a part of Kawhi. His ankle got injured twice in 2017 and that second time left permanent damage that he never really recovered from. Ever since then his lower body injuries have always plagued him. He managed to will his way through 2018-19 and win a championship but it was hard enough even back then at 28. Now he's 33/34 and the road is even more tougher. I wanted to write this to say that I feel bad for not seeing the reality sooner. The reality that maybe he just can't be who we want him to be anymore because of everything that has happened and how hard it has not only been for him but also the fans. Clipper Nation, you deserve so much more and I am sorry you have to go through this pain again. I wish we could someday experience happiness in a healthy Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers have tied the series. 2-2 heading back to LA. We knew Paul George needed to show up without Kawhi Leonard and that's what he did at least for the first half. Scored 26 points in the first half if I'm not mistaken. Absolutely dominated and was on fire especially in that first quarter. When PG is on he's on. That fourth quarter fade away three with that Mavs defender all over him was nuts. He was literally behind the backboard falling out of bounds and its nothing but net. I don't know how he did it but he did. James Harden took over that fourth quarter. Clippers don't win if he doesn't turn the back the clock like he did in the clutch. 14 HUGE fourth quarter points. Attacking the defense and constantly getting those easy floaters and layups at the rim. The Beard was insane. Gotta give him credit where its due. He was also considered QUESTIONABLE last game but Kawhi Leonard is once again QUESTIONABLE for game 4. I'm probably gonna get a lot of flack for this but unless he somehow miraculously becomes playoff Kawhi again I don't see a point in playing him. As if that isn't a big enough ask already it's even more so when you consider the mans health and how bad he's looked these past two games. Let game 2 of Clippers-Mavs be a lesson to Ty Lue that he can't keep pulling Russell Westbrook out of the game. If you've watch any Clippers game, you know that Ty limiting Russ minutes is one of the many reasons why many fans get fed up. It's one of the reasons why we've lost and it was definitely one of the biggest factors to that L last night. If y'all remember, we started that fourth quarter with a flurry when Russ was on the court. He was pushing the pace and getting to the rim. He found the open man on the perimeter and in the paint and sparked that offense to get the Clippers out to a 73-67 lead with 9:32 left. All momentum was on our side and so the Mavs call timeout. When they come out of the timeout, Russ ain't on the court anymore and ya know why? Cause Ty Lue didn't want to overplay him. He said that Russ had played too many minutes in a row and wanted to rest him for a little bit. With all due respect, that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Its the playoffs bruh. If Russ needs to play 20+ min in a row you do that every time cause winning is all that matters. Russ don't get tired and he damn well didn't look tired to me. You can't be subbing out the man who helped us build the lead in such an important game. After Russ went to the bench the Mavs went on a 9-0 run and completely took back the momentum. By the time Russ checked back in it was too late. Brodie had the best +/- on the team at +8 and this is how he gets treated? How does he only get 24 minutes? Make it make sense Ty. Bro singlehandedly sabotaged our chance at going up 2-0 in this series because he thought Russ needed a break. Russ cannot be on the bench when he is literally the reason we were starting to play well. Once you take him out everything changes for the worse. If Ty Lue is the "king" of adjustments, he will make the most obvious one come Friday. Keep Russ on the court and play him as much as you need to. I don't care if he has to play 40+ min. Okay what did they put in James Harden cereal today cause imma need him to play like that every game from here on out. That probably ain't happening but man Harden definitely took it personal today. I'm not sure what got into him but he was playing like it was 2019. Him and Westbrook felt like they were turning back the clock. Russ always be bringing the energy so that wasn't a surprise. Paul George showed up late. He wasn't very good for most of the game but when we needed him, he delivered. Made multiple clutch shots in the fourth quarter when it looked like the Clippers were gonna choke the lead away. Did I mention that we was up like 26 at the half and the Mavs were shooting 9-40?? That won't last but it just goes to show not only how much Dallas crapped the bed offensively but how intense we were defensively. At least for the first half cause the second half could have been better. Luka and Kyrie did get it going and gave me a little bit of a scare. Luckily, the Clippers were able to make some key buckets out of Ty Lues timeouts to keep the Mavs at bay. Still got quite a bit of things to improve on most notably the defense and half court offense in the second half but I will take the W all day even if its just one game. Come back better in game 2. It may not be easy but I believe the Clippers are fully capable of beating the Mavs for the third time in a seven game series. Of course I'm gonna be bias and say we're gonna win. I'm a Clipper page after all and I can't not have faith in our guys even if I do have my worries. It'll be especially more difficult now that Luka has Kyrie and a much better team compared to 2020 and 2021. It also helps that Tingus Pingus isn't there to be our MVP.. That being said, the Mavs may have gotten better but guess what? The Clippers have also gotten better. Its a two-way street. They may have more scoring with Kyrie and a better supporting cast but we got more playmaking with James Harden and Russell Westbrook as well as a deeper bench compared to last time. It'll be tough slowing down Luka and Kyrie but I at least have some faith in Kawhi and PG to defend. I don't feel the same way on the other end with Luka and Ky trying to keep up with us on D. Not to mention Harden and Westbrook attacking and dishing it out to open shooters. Defensively, we got the edge and I think its gonna show and offensively, we should be able to keep pace if our role players show up. Y'know who else is gonna get his and will be the best player in the series to determine the difference? A healthy Kawhi Leonard. If Kawhi isn't hurt no one is stopping him from dominating Dallas. That felt like a playoff game. The atmosphere. The intensity. The heart. The clutch shot-making. If you managed to miss this one I feel sorry for you cause it was pure hoops. Down 26 in the third quarter. All momentum was on the Cavs side and it was looking like another one of those classic Clipper collapses in the third quarter but then Russell Westbrook checked in. That was the turning point imo. Westbrooks value cannot be understated. We literally went on a 28-6 run when he came back in. Some fans wonder why he doesn't get many minutes and this is proof of why. The momentum just shifts and the team as a whole plays with actual purpose when Brodie is leading the charge. Norman Powell was also making those clutch shots late. He was a little bit off early on but he got hot when we needed him most. What more can I say about Paul George? Playing 44 minutes is amazing enough but hitting clutch shot after clutch shot as well as the game winner is what great players do. Rip to Evan Mobleys ankles hopefully he makes a recovery🙏. I could do without the heart attack thank you. Glad the Clippers won but that fourth quarter was a disaster. We're so lucky we were able to escape and bail ourselves out cause it was looking like another choke job. Shots just weren't falling and a bunch of careless turnovers nearly sold the game. Also, Mo Wagner was putting us in a blender but whatever we won so I'll live with it. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George hit some clutch shots late. Kawhi with the tough fade away on Jalen Suggs to give us the lead. James Harden wasn't good tonight offensively but gotta give him credit for forcing the turnover on Paolo. I said some very harsh things in that second quarter that I would like to take back. I am sorry LA Clippers, I wasn't familiar with your game. Kawhi Leonard was just getting anything he wanted. Mans was unstoppable tonight off the bounce, in the midrange, and even attacking the rim. PG started off sluggish but really turned up in the second half. Harden was making plays in the pick and roll with his playmaking. How about Mason Plumlee actually being solid? Zubac was kinda making me mad early on and when Ty Lue benched him for Plumlee I wasn't sure how much of an upgrade that would be but he actually did well. Can't believe we managed to win this one shooting 37% from the field and 29% from three. Talk about an offensive struggle but I'll take whatever I can get. It doesn't matter how ugly it is the Clippers need to scrape out these types of games as much as they can. I know Kawhi Leonard was the leading scorer but Norman Powell is most definitely player of the game. Had the second most points and was extremely efficient especially in the fourth quarter when he had a clutch three and a clutch steal during the home stretch. I'm not sure if James Harden was aware we had a game today cause bro did nothing but brick. PG wasn't good for most of it but definitely made some plays late. That was more of a struggle than I thought it would be. Seriously this game would not have been so close if the Clippers decided to play the full 48 min with some heart like they did the final 3 minutes. Its cool we got the win but we could have done much better just saying. I guess its nice that James Harden decided to finally make a shot in the clutch as he only had one field goal. With the NBA trade deadline coming up, I thought I'd be fun to look at this new @bleacherreport article about top 3 trade targets for each team notably the Clippers. Given our lack of assets and cap space, I was curious to see what players BR thinks we could target on the cheap that can come in and contribute right away while also NOT disrupting the team chemistry. -Bleacher Report had us targeting three players that all can play PF/back up center which is what I think the Clippers are mostly definitely looking for. That being said, I'm not exactly thrilled about any of these guys BR has us targeting. I just don't think they are that good and we could probably trade for better players. Cedi Osman could be fine as a backup SF but he's not great defensively and is about average from three. I think we already have a much better player in Amir Coffey to fill that role. Otto Porter, Jr would get me excited if this was 2022. Since then Porter has been doing nothing in Toronto and seems to have fallen off a cliff as a 3 and D guy. If he can get back to what he was doing in Golden State then maybe he wouldn't be a bad trade target but thats a big "if". Finally, the best target here I think is Chris Boucher mostly for his size and rebounding he could provide as a backup 4/5. Boucher has been a player I've wanted for a while now mostly cause he's cheap and versatile. Perhaps he could carve out a role as center depth. Theis and Plumlee are probably better -All in all, these are definitely players that play basketball.. Do they play it well and would they make an impact on the Clippers? I don't know about that but it wouldn't hurt to try given how low their value is. Only one I think is unnecessary is Cedi since he plays SF. That was a putrid beggining of the game. I was legit spazzing out over the Clippers being down 16 to the worst team in the NBA but luckily they turned up late and got the W. It wasn't the best performance but it got the job done. Congrats to Russell Westbrook on making history and hitting that 25,000 points mark in his career. He had a phenomenal game and was definitely my MVP despite Kawhi's insane takeover later on. Sure Kawhi making 6 consecutive threes is crazy BUT Russ was the one who set the tone for the bench and helped push us towards the victory. Took care of business as we should. That third quarter was pretty much just a human highlight reel of the Clippers. We basically did anything we wanted in the second half. I'm not sure if that was because the Clippers are really good or the Wizards are really bad. Probably a mix of both tbh but regardless we're back and thats all what matters. Kawhi scored 31 in 30 min enough said. James Harden rebounded well from yesterday and was in scoring mode. Amir Coffey continues to be a great role player. Clippers forced a lot of turnovers and got out into transition quite a bit giving the Wizards a taste of their own medicine. Felt weird seeing us of all teams push the pace on fast breaks while Washington sat back and did nothing but brick shots in the half court. Hopefully PG groin is good to go on Friday. Kawhi and Amir Coffey were excellent but Paul George and James Harden left a lot to be desired. We just struggle against these bigger teams who are more athletic and longer than us. I'm not sure what it is but squads like the Wolves, Lakers, and especially the Cavs today push us around way too much. They out physical us on the glass and punish us inside. Zubac being OUT definitely doesn't help but the Clips have been struggling with this problem ALL season. Yeah that was payback for what happened before Christmas. Wow I knew the Clippers could win this game but I didn't expect it to be by this much. I'm impressed. Easily the best game we've played all season and the best W by far. We just came out with the right energy and executed the game plan to perfection. Didn't let up once on defense and eventually the offense started flowing. Seriously though the Clippers were everywhere on defense. We were constantly swarming, deflecting the basketball, and making the Celtics players on offense work. It wasn't just Russ or T-Mann on defense putting in 110% like it usually is. It was EVERYBODY and when everybody is putting in that effort, this is the result. Prior to this loss, Boston was 20-1 at home. The only L they had was to the Nuggets in a 2-point thriller a few weeks ago. Clippers were on a back to back making a flight from Toronto and were blowing the best team in the NBAs back out by like 35 at one point.. Take that for what you will. Through the midway point of the regular season last year, the Clippers were 20-21 in the play-in tournament. At the midway point of this year (updated from last night), the Clippers are 28-14 in the 4 seed. I'm not gonna get too far ahead of myself but this season feels different. Thats not to say the results will be different but the team feels like they have something to prove. Its been a long time coming but I think the squad realizes that this is the last dance. Say goodnight OKC. I was stressing out right there but man did Kawhi Leonard and Paul George come through when we needed them most. PG pretty much said "f*ck it I'll do it myself" at the end there. O'Neal and Finney-Smith could provide extra length and defense as well as shooting at the PF position. Now what would the cost be? Ngl I needed this after what happened yesterday. I feel so much better knowing that last nights disasterclass was hopefully an anomaly. Hopefully.. Anyways, great team win in all facets. Clippers came in ready to play despite being on a back to back and they kinda had control from the start. We didn't blow it open until the fourth quarter but it felt like we were gonna win from the jump. Going up 20+ points and letting the starters rest was extra icing on the cake.
