L'Homme qui marche I, 2020 Ejaaz Daiyan Ahmad (b. 2012) After Alberto Giacometti, 1960 ________________ Ahmad, an emerging performance-based artist who resides (quarantines) between Brooklyn, NY and Crown Point, IN is known for his spontaneous gestures, often testing the audience's understanding of the underlying intentionality of human action or inaction. In his most recent body of work, the artist is purposely fatigued by his mother, who coaxes him to do livestream Pilates classes with her via Zoom and then deploys the tenets of strengthen, lengthen, and tone to mold his slender physique to mimic masterworks of art. L'Homme qui marche I is an interpretation of the 1960's sculpture by Alberto Giacometti. Audiences have remarked on the uncanny similarities and the challenge of getting a male 7-year-old to focus and hold their body still. This time-based performance was staged at the artist's grandparents' residence on April 19, 2020.
