"Mettre la main à la pâte" is a French expression that translates to "to put one's hand in the dough" in English. It figuratively means "to get involved", or "to lend a hand". The expression originates from baking, where putting one's hand in the dough symbolizes actively participating in the task at hand, such as kneading bread dough. When someone says "mettre la main à la pâte," they're expressing their willingness to contribute or take part in an activity or project. #afseattle #frenchexpression #frenchidiom #frenchfridays #learnfrench #frenchlanguage #languagelearning

[FRENCH IDIOM] This expression comes straight from German and traces back to Heinrich von Ofterdingen, a novel by the German writer Novelis in 1811. In the story, the main character daydreams about a blue flower, symbolizing his love interest. Over time, the blue flower became a symbol of sentimentality in French culture. So, are you a blue flower?🫐 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷 French Parrow offers dynamic online French classes for all proficiency levels. 🐟 First appearing in the 17th century, "Se faire poissonnier la veille de Pâques" is a French expression that essentially means choosing the most inopportune moment to undertake something. It is translated literally as “to become a fishmonger the day before Easter.” It draws on the practice of many Christians who eat fish instead of meat during Lent. For fish sellers, Lent represents the peak season. Therefore, launching a fish business as Lent ends and people are keen to resume eating meat represents a classic case of poor timing. #afseattle #frenchfridays #learnfrench #frenchlanguage #languagelearning #frenchexpression #alliancefrancaise #frenchidiom

🦆 The French expression "ça ne casse pas trois pattes à un canard" literally translates to "it doesn't break three legs off a duck" in English. It's used to convey that something is not particularly impressive or exceptional. You might use this in the same way as you would say “It’s nothing to write home about.” Example: J’ai vu le film – ça ne casse pas trois pattes à un canard (I saw the movie – it’s not that great.) #afseattle #frenchfridays #alliancefrancaise #frenchexpression #frenchidiom #learnfrench #frenchlanguage #languagelearning

🍏 🇬🇧In French, “Tomber dans les pommes” means fainting, but it paints a quirky picture of someone tumbling into a pile of apples when they lose consciousness. 🍏 #france #french #learnfrench #frenchlanguage #frenchidiom #idiomoftheday #education #languagelearning #languagelearningisfun #languages
