One year ago we joined in the national week of action for #JusticeForRoxsana Today is the second year anniversary of her death at the hands of I.C.E _ Who is Roxsana Hernandez? A Honduran Trans woman and an asylum seeker who arrived in Tijuana seeking asylum. Many Trans immigrants, specially Trans women, seek asylum from the violence and threats they constantly face in their country of birth. Roxsana died in an ICE detention center. In what can only be described as gutless and utterly heartless, the Trump administration has canceled all remotely humane activities for migrant children, most of whom are living in cages and sleeping on concrete floors. These people are coming here as a direct result of America’s epically failed War on Drugs. Savagely vicious, murderous drug gangs have taken over the streets of Honduras. These drug gangs use Honduras as a transit point for drugs headed for America. After being told she wasn’t wanted in the neighborhood for being a trans woman and contracting HIV due to being gang-raped by members of the MS-13, Roxsana Hernandez joined a migrant caravan in search of asylum. She stated, “I didn’t want to come to Mexico — I wanted to stay in Honduras but I couldn't...They kill trans people in Honduras. I'm scared of that." Unfortunately, en route to refuge, Hernandez was turned away by family she reached out to and later detained by ICE and placed in an ‘Icebox’ which are cold cells where she was barley fed and lights were on for 24 hours a day. She was denied medical attention for HIV related complications and died in ICE custody five days later.
