My mom took me to my first musical and I instantly fell in love with the theatre. Before we left for the Olympics, the Canadian Olympic Association invited us to watch Les Mis and we got to meet Michael Burgess, who played Jean Valjean. He was incredible! I was blown away by this musical and it became one of my favourite shows to watch. I’ve watched it at least 4 times in Toronto and when I competed in London, England, my judge took me to see the show there. Zai asked if she could watch Les Mis with me this year, as she knows it’s one of my favs. This made my heart full. Ich denke aber, dass es hier keine qualitativen Unterschiede gibt, ganz egal wer jeweils auf der Bühne steht. Filippo Strocchi hat für mich sehr gut in die Rolle des Jean Valjean gepasst. Er spielt und singt komplett überzeugend. Sein Gegenspieler Javert, gespielt von Daniel Gutmann, steht ihm hierbei in nichts nach. Beide harmonieren gut miteinander. Wietske van Tongeren in der Rolle der Fantine nimmt man die verzweifelte Mutter, die sich um das Wohl ihrer Tochter sorgt, sehr wohl ab. Als Eponine stand Barbara Obermeier auf der Bühne. Ihr gelingt es, ihre Gefühle für Marius schauspielerisch nachvollziehbar zu zeigen. Auch sie überzeugt stimmlich. No words can describe the expirence it has been working on les Mis. (Yet I’m going to write a whole Paragraph abt it). When I first herd about Les Mis @seaashelb shelby ambushed me in the hall saying I’d be great for this role in some musical. Her reasoning was that I was a tenor and I had a Marius looking face, I still don’t get what Marius looking face means but I trusted her reasoning. I wanted to audition but didn’t think I’d have the time nor be any good compared to the already talented community of artists that have been doing productions at this school. Yet after taking my name off the list and putting it back down over and over shelby finally wrote my name down for me. One thing led to another and I was in Les Mis. Through the months of rehearsals i was motivated by some of the most wonderful and talented people I have ever met. We had created a family all working toward the same goal of creating this show into what it was on opening night. Without the help of Mr C, Ms K, Ms B, and Ms Bradfield this show would have been nothing. The amount of respect and thanks I have for these three, there is not enough i could say. They saw things in me I didn’t see in myself when I started, they are the true hero’s of this show and I’m forever grateful for the way they have helped me and helped others. I owe thanks to this character for allowing me to express myself through his eyes. Through my highs and lows this character was how I could express myself. I’m in utter awe with how others were able to connect with him as much as I did. To be able to let someone feel through acting is still something that leaves me baffled and amazed.y only hope is to do more. Thanks to the brilliant @caedography we are able to keep this show alive through these unbelievable beautiful pictures. Hard not too cry when I look at em.
