It’s the Year of the Dragon! 🐉 I’ve been waiting to illustrate this cool creature and wanted to do it justice. In Chinese mythology, the dragon is the ultimate combo of all the other animals in the zodiac—rat whiskers, ox horns, tiger teeth and claws, dog ears, pig snout, etc. . Chinese dragons are also often depicted holding a flaming pearl, which I incorporated with billowing smoke enveloping the dragon. The lettering is custom, inspired by 19th-century type, and I added special golden sparkles throughout the linework to replicate metallic inks! ✨ . One cool thing I discovered while researching was something called the “chimu” on the dragon’s forehead, translated as a “broad eminence or lump” that allows him to fly.
