One year ago tonight, I filmed @thebandfawn in their debut show at @kellysolympian as my second filmed show of 2022. It was the first of many of their shows that I would be filming of theirs to help get their name out in the Portland music scene. With #MatthewHensonDay30 being a few days away, I want to take a moment to reflect on what I accomplished on the last of my twenties with the memories that I created leading into the exit of being 29 and going into 30. May has been a very productive, final month of doing the things that I absolutely love doing. In the past month, I got to film two shows including a first time filming of @aprettycooldad in my debut at @honeylattecafe and speaking of, filming the debut of @thebandfawn at @kellysolympian. Not to mention, my #MJHVideography uploads in late May and early June of @aprettycooldad. I also got to witness new musicians that I saw for the first time and took great interest in them at @mcmenaminsalsden including @opera.philosopher, @voxowlmusic, and @tannercundy. I got to eat at @raisingcanes and go see the #BobsBurgerMovie with @shaylajean and @braydonrobbins on a super fun Friday night! I rounded out by going to my very first @wrestleprestige Wrestling Event on the first night of #PrestigeRoseland 3 where I appeared in the crowd on @independentwrestlingtv and even in Japan also! I’ve also kicked off #MatthewHensonDay30 with a celebratory lunch of Fried Chicken Sandwiches, Sparkling BUBBLY Water, Honey Pie, and celebratory birthday doughnuts from @voodoodoughnut! Overall, It’s been a wild, fun, and more importantly, fulfilling way to close out of 29. I’m so pleased by having the combination of doing what I love and being a part of my favorite interests. All the fun weekends that truly made this last round of my twenties exciting and help me get off of the couch to explore the adventures that lie ahead of me. The fun weekends and Friday nights in between really gave me a reminder of why I’m so happy to be living in Portland, why I would never give it up for the world, why I won’t let anyone else have what I have earned, and a reminder of why all these moments are so important to me in my life. I hope to continue making bigger memories, bigger moments going in to my 30’s without any restraint and with full support. Thank you so much for the lasting memories, 29 and to the rest of my 20’s. Let’s see what I can accomplish at 30 and beyond. What a life…so far.
#TBT to the musicians and bands I filmed for and the growth of both of my @youtube Channels in 2021! From the bottom of my heart, I personally want to send giant THANK YOUS to @garyvmusic, @wildpowwers, and @strangeandthefamiliars/@stephscelza for allowing me to film their shows, respectively at @thefixinto and @dantesportland, for trusting me in my ability to capture them at their absolute best during their performances, and for allowing me the opportunity to resume doing what I love in filming. Last year, like so many people, was a difficult time for me in my creative life. With the help of a friend of mine, we started up on my #MJHVideography Channel on the literal precipice of the shutdowns from the pandemic. A year later though, that all changed. One day, I remember I was looking at my #MJHVideography Channel and I noticed I hadn’t uploaded any new videos in almost a year from my lack of creativity, confidence, and passion. I knew deep down inside of me, all of the videos from the bands I had filmed from years past deserved to be showcased on a massive platform that is @youtube. There are, and still is, so many videos that I wanted to share with people no one has not seen before. So naturally, I finally started back up in my uploading of videos. Throughout this year, I had uploaded so many videos from the shows that I had filmed before from @siegeisnot, @lorainsongs, @alvvaysband, and @thisisfrankierosemusic. From those previous shows that I had filmed, I branched out into other musicians/bands that I had a deep interest in filming and uploaded new work to my #MJHVideography Channel. Before and during that time of my resurgence, I had also begun in uploading videos on my Main Channel including my Thanksgiving and New Apartment videos. Looking back, I’m extremely proud of my growth not as a YouTuber, but reignition of the flame of a videographer. More importantly, adding more fuel to the fiery love and passion I have for in film. Thank you to everyone, including the bands/musicians/venues, for watching my work and supporting me in 2021! I cannot wait to see where 2022 and beyond takes me next!
