📻💿📻 . Skip Zik Of Ze Day . 📻💿📻 . MERCREDI FLASHBACK ! . 📻 Direction 1980 pile poil aujourd’hui ; loin des contrées Post-Punk ou New Wave en vogue à l'époque ; vers une planète à part peu (re)connue. Et pourtant qui se voit rééditée avec son album le plus vendu aux USA et au Canada, et lui ayant même permis de traverser l’Atlantique ! REO Speedwagon est son nom. Fondé en 1967 à Champaign, dans l'Illinois, il lui faudra attendre tout ce temps et 9 albums pour avoir cette reconnaissance. L’objet du délit s’appelle "Hi-Infidelity". Comme souvent pour ce genre de groupes classifiés Hard Rock, c’est par une ballade que le succès arrivera : "Keep on loving you", directement N°1 aux States ! Mais il vrai que le groupe avait opéré un virage Soft Rock et Hard Fm avec cet opus. 10 titres dont 4 power ballades (mention spéciale pour "Take it on the run" et le conclusif "I wish you were there", dont l’intro riffue rappelle "With a little help from my friends" des Beatles). N’allez pas croire que ces excès de sucreries vous donneront la nausée, car les 6 titres restant équilibre l’ensemble, avec solos qui tue et refrains entêtants . D’ailleurs l’énergique "Don’t let him go" introductif en fait à la fois la démonstration et l’exemple même de l’évolution du groupe, passant d’un son 70’s à un modale 80’s avec synthés. "Follow my heart", même en mid-tempo Rock mélodique ravira les oreilles zeppeliniennes ; et "In your letter", les fans de Fleetwood Mac. Enfin "Touch Guys" est l’autre titre fort de l’album, qui finira de vous convaincre de le réhabiliter, au même titre que "Out of the season", "Shakin’ it loose" et "Someone tonight". Now playing Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf, Ken Hensley's first solo album (under his own name) from 1973. The album was recorded shortly after Uriah Heep released their album Uriah Heep Live. Hensley himself played guitar, keyboards and sang on the album. Musicians who played on the album included Uriah Heep bassist Gary Thain and drummer Lee Kerslake. Due to the promotion of Uriah Heep's Sweet Freedom, there was no time for Hensley to promote Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf. The resulting album was as good as anything Uriah Heep recorded at their peak and features wonderful material such as Cold Autumn Sunday, Black Hearted Lady and Go Down, along with an alternative version of Rain (also recorded by Uriah Heep). The song "Cold Autumn Sunday" is occasionally played on American radio stations, which Ken Hensley has commented positively on in several interviews. All songs written by Ken Hensley. This is the very first UK pressing with ILPS-9223-A and ILPS-9223-B numbers on labels.
