Driver flees crash, two officers injured during arrest North Vancouver RCMP are seeking dash cam and CCTV to advance their investigation of a reported hit and run and alleged subsequent assault on two officers. Media: https://bc-cb.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=2120&languageId=1&contentId=83799 April 17, at approximately 1:00 a.m. North Vancouver RCMP were alerted to a collision in the 2300 block of Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver. Witnesses reported seeing a white Dodge Ram pickup strike a tree and the driver fleeing from the scene. As officers arrived at the collision, other officers attended the registered owner’s address in an effort to intercept the driver. While at the residence, officers noted the passenger of an arriving vehicle matched the description of the hit-and-run driver. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the white sedan, but the passenger exited the vehicle, attempted to flee and reportedly resisted arrest. As the passenger continued to resist arrest, another man allegedly exited a nearby residence and tackled an arresting officer. A brief struggle ensued as officers attempted to gain control of the scene, during which two officers were allegedly assaulted and were injured as a result. The driver of the white sedan was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition for refusing to provide a breath sample as officers suspected that he was driving while impaired. The hit-and-run driver faces potential charges in relation to failing to remain at the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. The third man is being investigated for assaulting a police officer and obstruction. Warning rise in calls involving fraudsters posing as police File # 2024-11098 Richmond RCMP issue public warning regarding fraudsters posing as police following an increase in reports. Between March 1, 2024 and April 8, 2024 Richmond RCMP has received seven reports involving fraudsters allegedly posing as police and demanding money. The total reported loss is over $ 1.1 million. In three instances no money was sent. All of these investigations involved individuals posing as Chinese police or government officials. These fraudsters can be very convincing. They employ various tactics to trick people including spoofing legitimate phone numbers, or making threats of police action if payment is not made. Ultimately, they have one objective, to get your money, says Sergeant Dave Au, Richmond RCMP Organized Crime Unit. These types of scams continue to surface in our community and unfortunately people continue to fall prey to these fraudsters, says Corporal Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer, These frauds can have a devastating financial and emotional impact on the victims which is why we continue to issue these public warnings in the hope of preventing further victimization. Richmond RCMP want to remind the public that if someone claiming to be from a government agency asks for Bitcoin, Google Play or iTunes gift cards as a method of payment hang up immediately and report it to police. There are a number of frauds and scams that utilize similar tactics, including the romance scam which has led to significant financial losses for Richmond residents . Richmond RCMP advise on-going discussion with loved ones about these scams in order to promote greater awareness. Richmond RCMP recommend you regularly check the Canada Anti-Fraud website to learn more about the latest scams and frauds affecting our community. Richmond RCMP encourages anyone who has been the victim of a suspected fraud to report it to the police of jurisdiction. Know who stole this shipping container? Call 1-800-222-8477 AbbyPD CRU investigating suspected theft of shipping container from rural property in Abbotsford Media: https://www.abbypd.ca/blog/news_releases/abbypd-cru-investigating-suspected-theft-of-shipping-container-from-rural-property-in-abbotsford The AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is investigating the theft of a 40-foot red shipping container from a rural property in the 6000 block of Lefeuvre Rd, Abbotsford, BC. Investigators believe that the container may have been taken during daytime hours on Monday, April 15, 2024, by unknown suspects. Two flat-deck trucks with folding knuckle-boom cranes are suspected of having been used to remove the shipping container from the property. One truck was described as having a black cab with chrome accents, and the second truck was described as having a red cab and towing a flat-deck trailer. The container owners were not present when the container was removed and had not given permission for it to be removed from the property. AbbyPD CRU believes that the company/companies whose heavy equipment was utilized in moving and transporting the shipping container may have been unaware that the container owners had not consented to their container being moved. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information or dashcam footage that may assist in identifying the company/companies utilized in transporting the container in hopes it may lead to the eventual recovery of the container and its contents to the rightful owners. If you have any information about the company/companies used to pick up and transport the shipping container (pictured below), please get in touch with Sergeant Cory Johansen at [email protected] To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online at solvecrime.ca, or download the "P3 Tips" app. #crimestoppers #seesomething #saysomething #seesomethingsaysomething

Coquitlam Fire and Rescue attended scene with their boat, but were also unable to reach the vehicle or determine if it was occupied. The RCMP attended the scene where they located the submerged vehicle in the Fraser River. Divers did not observe any persons in the vehicle, however, a thorough search will be conducted once the vehicle is removed from the water in the next few days. We would like to thank Coquitlam Fire and Rescue as well as the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team in assisting our on-going investigation, said Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. We can confirm that the vehicle was recently reported stolen from a neighbouring jurisdiction. We are asking anyone who has information regarding this incident to contact our investigators. Earlier this morning, I saw a post about someone seeing a man ABANDON his little terrier dog at an AM-PM stating he could no longer keep him or want him, not sure which one it was. OP did bring the dog home to keep him safe BTW. Although, I do not have information past this, my first question was: Did you call police? Others asked this as well in the post with no response. My thought is, if you had time to talk to him about WHY he was ABANDONING his dog, then there was time to get a license plate. But again, I was not there and do not know the situation. PLEASE, if you see this happening, do not do NOTHING. Call police and report it! I purchased dash cameras after I was involved in a car accident, but I am even more glad I did so that if I ever come across this, I can look back at the footage for car information. SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. According to Riverside County Municipal Code 8.04.010 -- It is unlawful for any person to knowingly abandon any animal within the City. Any person violating this section shall bear full costs and expenses incurred by said City in the care of said abandoned animal and said person shall reimburse to the City all costs therefor as determined by the Animal Control Director. Police issue warning ahead of summer wildfire season after two reports of suspicious fires File # 24-5719 North Vancouver RCMP are issuing a public warning after receiving two reports of suspicious fire in the Norgate neighbourhood. Media: https://bc-cb.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=2120&languageId=1&contentId=83537 On March 26, 2024, North Vancouver RCMP were alerted by District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services of two suspicious fires in the 1300-block of Sowden Street. Fire crews were called around 2:30 p.m. after a home owner smelled smoke and noted his 10-foot hedges fully engulfed in flames. In the second incident, a passerby called fire crews after noticing hedges on fire in front a different home in the same block just before 3:00 p.m. Both fires were put out by fire crews before they reached the residences. In both of these cases, witnesses reported seeing three 10-12-year-old boys loitering in the area prior to the fires being set. Police are treating both fires as suspicious and conducting neighborhood canvasses to further the investigation. The act of intentionally setting a fire is not only dangerous but can also have criminal consequences, said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. With an anticipated hot and dry summer season rapidly approaching, we’re appealing to everyone to be extra vigilant when enjoying the outdoors due to the high risks associated with wildfire season. CRIME OF THE WEEK Unsolved Crime: Theft Title: Stolen Shipping Container of E-Bikes Date: March 19th, 2024 Location: Delta, B.C. Details: File 2024-4794 On March 19th, 2024, at 1:01 AM a semi-tractor entered an insecure warehouse lot on Annacis Island in Delta, backed under a container and chassis positioned against the warehouse. Two suspects exited the truck and completed connecting to the trailer and then drove away within minutes. The truck is described as a white Freightliner daycab tractor with “Ryder” written on the doors. On March 19th, at 12:58 PM, 12 hours later, the trailer theft was reported to the Delta Police. In the shipping container was 150 Biktrix electric bicycles with a declared value of $500,000. The theft was captured on CCTV from the warehouse facility. On March 22nd, Township of Langley Bylaw officers attended the area of 262nd St and 30A Ave for a complaint of an illegally parked semi-trailer. The trailer was empty, and missing its license plate. The trailer had been parked at the location on Monday March 18th, (one day before the trailer had been stolen). Biktrix company representatives have been sharing evidence via media interviews and social media. This has complicated the police’s ability to conduct investigations overtly and covertly. Delta PD has a team of officers working to identify and hold accountable the people responsible for this theft and attempt to recover the stolen property. The theft was a crime of opportunity, and not specifically directed at Biktrix’s shipment. The suspects are known to be one male and one female, both dressed in dark clothing, and they made efforts to conceal their identity. If you have info please call the Delta PD at (604)946-4411 and quote file 24-4794. Richmond RCMP warns of escalating online romance and investment scams Richmond RCMP is alerting the public to a significant rise in sophisticated online scams, combining romance and investment schemes to defraud residents of millions. These scams, often involving cryptocurrencies, have already cost Richmond residents over $16.64 million in reported losses since 2023. In 2023, Richmond RCMP, received 87 reports of such scams, with victims reporting total losses of approximately $16.17 million. The trend continues in 2024, with 12 reported cases from January to March alone, amounting to losses of $477,820. Due to the nature of these scams, it is believed that the actual number of victims may be higher, as cases may go unreported due to embarrassment or fear. These long con scams involve perpetrators grooming victims over weeks or months. Victims are lured through dating websites, social media, and even text messages, often under the guise of a mistaken identity. Over time, scammers, using fake yet compelling profiles, build a relationship with their targets, eventually convincing them to invest in fraudulent opportunities. This method, commonly referred to as pig butchering, sees victims being fattened with false promises of profit, only to be financially slaughtered when they are left with nothing. Scammers may show false returns on small initial investments to entice further spending, leading victims down a path of financial ruin. If you suspect you’ve been a victim of an online romance or investment scam: 1. Preserve all communication and transaction records. 2. Report the incident immediately to your bank, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and Richmond RCMP at our non-emergency line: 604-278-1212. Know the suspects in these fraud scams? Call 1-800-222-8477 Richmond RCMP warn of fraudulent cheque scheme targeting businesses Media: https://bc-cb.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=2122&languageId=1&contentId=83448 Richmond RCMP Economic Crime Unit is warning businesses in our community of an emerging scheme. Criminals are specifically targeting cheques from a cluster of businesses north of Cambie Road between No. 6 Road and Viking Way. These businesses suffered losses in the tens of thousands of dollars through fraudulent activity. The criminal or criminals appear to be targeting business cheques that are being mailed using a Canada Post mailbox located near the businesses. Through our investigation, we have learned that the cheques are intercepted, fraudulently deposited, then cashed, all unbeknownst to the issuing business. It is only after some time has passed, before the payee informs the issuing business that their account has an outstanding balance due to the not receiving the cheque. We strongly encourage the use of a physical post office for mailing any corporate cheques or by using a courier service. This simple precaution can significantly reduce the risk of your cheques being intercepted. We are working closely with security personnel at Canada Post in our investigation. If your business has been targeted by this cheque fraud scheme, please report it promptly to the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212. If you have information and wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online at solvecrime.ca, or download the "P3 Tips" app. #crimestoppers #seesomething #saysomething #seesomethingsaysomething
