Sandeep Sancheti said, “One size cannot fit the whole country.” It is necessary for there to be enough flexibility in the education system for students to learn what they want at their own pace to graduate in a course tailor-made to their suitability. The importance of faculty was brought up in this aspect of being able to provide appropriate knowledge in the appropriate context. Instead of teachers being forced to teach a subject based on a strict curriculum, the faculty should be able to put their expertise on the table and teach according to their specialization. The responsibility of the teacher should not be to cover the syllabus but to “uncover” it, where the full potential of subjects is explored. ~Sandeep Sacheti Vice-Chancellor- SRM IST, Chennai #education #TEGS19 #Bangalore #conference #expo #delegates #networking #empowerment #learningiskey #explore #strengthening #connect #enthusiasts #discussion #knowledge #EdTech #EduGrowth #Educators #EducationIndia #KnowledgeisPower #AwareIndia #EducationSummit #TEGSIndia #India #EduTech #network #learningiskey

| GOAL 17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS | No big plan can be accomplished in isolation and the sustainable goals are no different. The last and final United Nations Sustainable Goal recognises that true sustainability occurs due to collective effort. According to the UN “Increasing support to developing countries, in particular, the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States, is fundamental to equitable progress for all.” Developed nations don’t just share their resources but also give developing countries guidance and knowledge to help them make informed choices for sustainable development. Education can help us in exchange of ideas. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 15: LIFE ON LAND | The aim of this goal is solely to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss. The current news about the man-made fires in Amazon which is revered as the lungs of the world is a perfect example of our callousness towards life on land. This loss of life on land can only be prevented once the public mindset is changed. Here is where environmental education programs come into play in our society. Education can help save life on land. | GOAL 14: LIFE BELOW WATER | For years water bodies have been used as dumping grounds for garbage disposal, but waste does not vanish inside the oceans. It acts as a catalyst for climate change which is causing global ocean temperatures to rise, changes migration patterns in fish, affects how animals reproduce, causes coral reefs to die, and along with unleashing dangerous pathogens. One of the catalysts- pollution of ocean water, has reached unimaginable heights. An area of the Pacific Ocean is known as the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’ due to the sheer amount of debris accumulated there. According to a CNN report, the ‘patch’ is 1.6 million square kilometres. Pollution of water continues due to lack of knowledge and education on this severity of the issue. By creating awareness through education, the oceans and all other water bodies can be saved. Education can also be used as a tool, to find sustainable solutions for waste management and clean up our oceans. Education can help save life below water. | GOAL 13: CLIMATE ACTION | According to UN Climate Change is one of the greatest threat to development and its effects disproportionately burden the most vulnerable. Climate Change needs to be prevented and according to research education is the way forward. UNESCO conducted research in 29 countries and found that  25% of people with less than a secondary education expressed concern for the environment compared to 37% of people with secondary education and 46% of people with tertiary education. Where there is concern there is hope for action. Education can help in reducing the effects of climate change. | GOAL 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION | Responsible Consumption minimises wastage of natural resources and toxic materials used. It also means reducing the waste created in the process of production and consumption. According to a UNESCO study in Ethiopia, six years of education improve by 20%, the chance that a farmer will address climate change by adopting techniques such as soil conservation, variation in planting dates and changes in crop varieties. A study by Imperial College Londen discovered that in developing countries, improvement in awareness of energy-efficient technologies increases with greater education. Hence education must be employed by us to increase awareness among young minds to promote sustainable decision making in consumption. Education can help in solving problems of irresponsible consumption and production. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES |  According to the UN, cities are hubs for ideas, commerce, culture, science, productivity, social development and much more and at their best, cities have enabled people to advance socially and economically. With the prediction that the number of people in cities will increase, the city needs to develop to accommodate its rising numbers. Good urban planning, energy use, water and sanitation management, social inclusion and other elements of well-working communities require people with knowledge and skills that are only available through quality education. For example, the World Bank Sustainable Cities Initiative mainly focuses on awareness-building programs, the creation of policy reforms and other tasks. Education can help in making our cities more sustainable. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. Is Education key to attaining UN Sustainable Developments? On 1st January 2016, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development by United Nations officially came into force. This agenda consists of 17 goals that aim to create a unified movement to mobilise change throughout the globe. These broad goals range from poverty reduction to reducing pollution in our water bodies. The underlying common theme that runs through all the goals is to improve the quality of life for each and every individual on earth. While the movement may seem ambitious and far fetched at first glance, with its clearly defined targets it is highly possible. The only thing left to do is to create plans and policies that act on turning these goals into action. With each passing year, as the deadline nears it’s time for us to employ the biggest catalyst for change-Education. Because those who don’t join the movement, get left behind. | GOAL 9: INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE | Infrastructure provides the basic physical facilities essential to business and society, industrialization drives economic growth and innovation expands the technological capabilities of industrial sectors and leads to the development of new skills. All three are essential for the success of a country. As Indians become better educated, they will be more likely to acquire the skills necessary to build and sustain the infrastructure that we are in dire need of. On the other hand, good infrastructure itself enables more children to get better educational opportunities. Quality infrastructure makes it possible for children in remote areas to get to school conveniently and quickly while making other amenities such as hospitals, government offices more accessible. Proper infrastructure makes the world come closer. Education can help with innovating and implementing development. | GOAL 8: DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH | According to the World Economic Forum, we are experiencing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This phase of the industrial revolution is driven largely by the convergence of digital, biological, and physical innovations.  Due to this ‘Future of Jobs Report’ estimates; 75 million jobs will be displaced by 2022 in 20 major economies while at the same time, technological advances and new ways of working may also create 133 million new roles. According to the report, unemployment would not result out of a lack of jobs, but due to a lack of training to take up these jobs. Proper education and training to develop our Human Resource is key to helping India embrace the revolution to fuel the economy and not get overrun by it instead. Education can help in the creation of decent work and contributes to economic growth. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 7 AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY | Access to affordable and clean energy is crucial to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals and it plays a major role in a country’s social, economic and environmental development. Sadly, even to this day, 13% of the global population still lacks access to modern electricity. Education is the catalyst that can inspire communities to work towards modernising their villages. This could be through investing in energy, since educated people tend to earn more on average than the uneducated or by empowering people to come up with their own cost-effective, clean energy solution. Furthermore, experience suggests that educated citizens will likely be more inclined to recognize and adopt new practices and technologies that will help them and their communities prosper. Education can help in the creation and implementation of affordable and clean energy. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 6 WATER AND SANITATION | The benefits of clean water and sanitation on education are well known. Reduction of water-borne diseases and an increase in sanitation reduces the sick days, which interrupt a child's education. Lack of proper toilets is a major reason for the disparity among the genders when it comes to education. Moreover, according to UNESCO in many societies, girls can spend as many as 15 hours per week fetching water for their families, which in turn leaves no time for school, but what is the impact of education on water and sanitation? Awareness about water issues and its solutions is called Water Literacy, and it is more important than you could even imagine. Water literacy encourages smart policymaking that takes into consideration people's water woes. It prepares people for water-related disasters, such as floods, tsunamis etc and it helps people efficiently manage their available water supply. Similarly, education on proper sanitation can reduce the occurrence of preventable diseases through healthier habits among children. Education can help in solving problems of poor water and sanitation. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 5: GENDER EQUALITY | According to the UN Sustainable Goals report on Gender Equality, education and gender equality are directly correlated. Their findings show that men with secondary education demonstrated more gender-equitable attitudes and practices than men without education. Education also empowers women to fight for their rights. The ability to read increases women’s access to thought-provoking literature and dialogue. Gender Equality benefits both men and women, by breaking stereotypes perpetuated by toxic masculinity, education addresses the stereotypes that have made men partake in aggressive and risky behaviour, succumb to alcoholism or drug addiction and avoid seeking mental health. Education can help empower women. | GOAL 4: EDUCATION | Education should not just be accessible; it should be of substantial quality and add to improving the life of an individual. According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, adequate infrastructure and teacher training are the need of the hour. Quality education is vital since it doesn’t just provide us with skills, but also shapes our viewpoint. According to Justin Forsyth, the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund from 2016-2018, “There is a direct link between children for many, many years missing out on education and then the ability of more extremist elements to organize.” Educating all teachers for the job through training can improve the quality of Education. | GOAL 3: HEALTH | According to a UNICEF report entitled “State of the World’s Children”, Children born to educated mothers are almost 3 times less likely to die and more likely to go to school, delay marriage and postpone childbearing. Education is also a great platform for vaccination programs ( Since 2000, measles vaccines have averted nearly 15.6 million deaths according to UNICEF) and increasing awareness about healthier lifestyle choices such as school-wide anti-smoking campaigns. Moreover, educated people tend to earn higher income which intern allows them to afford better health care and higher-quality nutrition. Education can help in solving the problem of healthcare. | GOAL 2: ZERO HUNGER | According to UNICEF every year, around 3 million children die due to undernutrition. For millions more, chronic malnutrition results in stunting. It is also a well-known fact that children who do not get the required nutrition, find it difficult to pay attention in class, have low immunity and strength. With measures such as the mid-day meal scheme, and other cost-effective interventions to put a stop to hunger, schools reach children at a crucial age and can teach them basic nutrition to help them make better nutrition choices than their parents made and thus break the vicious cycle. Education can help in reducing world hunger. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore. | GOAL 1: POVERTY | According to the UN more than 700 million people, or 10% of the world population, still live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than 136 Rs a day. With the inability to afford proper health care and nutrition, the poor are quite often the most vulnerable. Can education be key to changing the cycle of poverty in families and communities? According to UNESCO it can. Their findings show that one extra year of schooling increases an individual's earnings by up to 10%, and each additional year of schooling raises average annual gross domestic product by 0.37%. Education can help in solving the problem of Poverty. Join us in strengthening the future of Education on 12th Sept'19 at The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore.
