Our 9th humanitarian aid trip to Ukraine and Poland represented our most difficult journey. More than two years of all-out war, the devastation surrounded us -- both in physical damage and the emotional. After entering Ukraine in mid-April, our volunteer partners from Polish Rotary Clubs joined us in delivering more than 18 tons of food and critical supplies throughout nine communities in the central regions of the war-torn country. We brought food and hope to: ➡️Schools providing shelter to hundreds of internally displaced children ➡️Orphanages serving as homes to children without parents ➡️Villages regularly under attack by Russian forces, including one village that suffered a deadly assault less than 24 hours after our partners completed their visit We then spent several days at our Children of Ukraine Health Retreat -- a 3-week trauma counseling program run each month for 30+ children of killed or missing Ukrainian soldiers. What an inspiring group of kids in the April session. On Saturday night, our New England-based co-founders landed back home -- exhausted and inspired. Debra Reynolds, 2023 employee of the year, is resilient and inclusive as she is kind and joyful. Deb is Deaf and a program manager for Goodwill NNE. She works with Deaf clients who live in Goodwill homes. Her staff are hearing, but most do not know American Sign Language (ASL). But Deb is unstoppable. She has an upbeat attitude. Regardless of communication, she has managed to create amazing relationships with everyone. She is even teaching her staff ASL. They adore her. Deb has amazing energy. Deb’s way of creative leadership involves community. She knows she cannot do this work alone and by working with the team, she builds a safe environment for the clients and each other.
