Proud of this interview I had with Journalist and producer Natalie Peart, for the award winning @thestooppodcast. In this candid share Natalie questions me about my path to becoming a decolonized Sacred Medicine practioner, I speak to my perspectives on the missing nuance in regards to the disparities of diversity, equity and the lack of cultural awareness and sensitivity needed for BIPOC healing within this growing industry. We also discuss toxic and harmful shadow aspects of the 'Psychedelic Renaissance' at large and the rampant colonization and capitalism happening where I am currently based in Jamaica. Grateful that as these medicines start to enter the mainstream platforms like The Stoop are not only speaking to the healing potential of Entheogens but also highlighting the systemic issues running rampant within the industry. "The Stoop podcast explores stories from the Black diaspora that we don’t always share out in the open. Hosts Leila Day and Hana Baba start conversations about what it means to be Black, and how we talk about blackness in America, and globally. It’s a celebration of Black joy in all its diversity, with a mission to dig deeper into stories that we need to talk about." This is a well researched well rounded journalistic episode in which Tonya Mosely of @tonyatalks and my colleague Kwasi Adusei also share insights into what it means to heal with these Sacred substances whilst black. I've included a sound bite from the episode here. This is not one to be missed folks. Listen via the link in my bio, Spotify, Apple and everywhere you find podcasts. **I've also taken the liberty to include a direct link to the IG Live 'A QUESTION OF ETHICS:PSYCHEDELIC CAPITALISM IN JAMAICA AND BEYOND' that I hosted some weeks ago which Natalie Peart and I also reference here in my bio for those that missed it and would like a more in depth perspective to the alarming disparities currently happening within this growing sector. **

The fear of getting dragged by Black Twitter for not liking or supporting everything Black is real, just like when Hana risked it all to admit that she changes the channel when Anita Baker’s music comes on. The real question here is, while we individually champion Black people as we should and root for everyone Black (in Issa Rae’s words) are we being entirely truthful? A color to ward off evil spirits. Leila walks through the streets of Charleston, getting lost in the history behind the porches, doors, and shutters painted Haint Blue. In the southern United States, Haint Blue has both spiritual and cultural significance. According to research, haint blue paint first appeared on slave quarters in the deep South. The ancestors of enslaved Africans known as Gullah Geechee believed the Haint Blue would protect their families against evil spirits (known as “haints”). In the past, many Black homes have been painted this color, and today Black people are still working to keep this tradition alive. Take a walk with Leila as she explores the Black history of Charleston that unfortunately seems to be fading away... [link in bio] #TheStoopPodcast

🙌🏽 Thanks to @nabjofficial National Association of Black Journalists for awarding us for this difficult episode about spanking, whooping your kid, abuse, and immigrant parents dealing with a new country where their kids can call 911 on them. 🔸We explore our Black and African cultures when it comes to child discipline- when is it abuse, its lasting effects on the brain, and what do we need to unlearn. 🔸It was hard- that’s why this award is so highly appreciated. 🙏🏽 Kudos To the amazing @thestooppodcast team who helped me tell this story- My fabu-sis @dayfound, producer Natalie Peart, editor Megan Tan, engineer James Rowlands 🎧 Listen to the winning episode on your podcast player or thestoop.org ⬆️ - and trigger warning: there is a story about physical abuse. #blackpodcasts #blackpodcasters #thestooppodcast #blackstories #africanpodcast #africanpodcasts #africanstories #childdiscipline #childabuse #parenting #africanculture #blackculture #whooping
