Hero of Two Worlds by Mike Duncan, my palate cleanser and pause from Capital by Karl Marx. The highlighted portion of this picture has stuck with me for about a week and I wanted to share it. It shows the irony of education in the ancien regime where young nobles were taught from the likes of Cicero, Virgil, Livy, Polybius, and Plutarch. The irony here is that these are some of the most prolific republicans in history and we find them being taught to the next generation of nobles in one of Europe’s staunchest monarchies. Hola! Hace tiempo que no hago recomendaciones literarias. Este libro es uno de mis favoritos, lo leí hace unos años descargado de por ahí y al final este verano lo compré para mi mini biblioteca. Trata sobre lo que se conoce como personas con "'zero degree of empathy": narcisistas, borderlines, psicópatas y autistas, así como las bases genéticas que pueden predisponer a padecer en cierto grado alguna de estas condiciones. Viene con test y todo, como la SuperPop 🤣. Por lo visto, uno de los determinantes genéticos hallados hasta el momento está relacionado con un fallo en los receptores de oxitocina en la corteza frontal. Creo en ti.” QUE BUEN LIBRO LOCOOOO Y QUE MAL LIBRO LOCOOOO. Y después de esto ustedes dirán que la loca soy yo, y si estoy loca pero loca de amor por estos libros jaja. Si ya leyeron mi reseña del primer libro se deben imaginar que este siguio por la misma línea. Como comente en la otra reseña es un libro al igual que el primero super papelonero, es decir que pasa de todo en media página y es todo totalmente salido de cualquier lado y sin explicación o en algunos casos con explicaciones muy confusas, pero es tan pochoclero que desde que lees la primera página no lo podes soltar. No puedo decir mucho de la historia en sí porque spoilearia todo el primer libro, pero de vuelta es una mezcla más mezclada de todas las criaturas mitológicas que se te puedan ocurrir y las que no también, todos enredados con todos (pero no de la manera que están pensando picarones). Los malos del primer libro en este o son mas malos o son los mas buenos del mundo y los buenos del primer libro en este o son mas buenos que antes o son pelotudos. La protagonista sigue haciendo cosas re impulsivas pero es la puta ama y me encanto el desarrollo que tuvo en esta segunda parte. El final me pareció super apresurado y como todo muy sacado de debajo de las piedras pero me destrozo de tal manera que llore como 10 minutos seguidos en el ómnibus y hasta ahora pienso en él y me destroza. I started and finished Nick and Charlie today in just a couple hours. I don’t think I’ve ever been obsessed with a book series. I’m literally loving every single book connecting to the heartstopper story. I haven’t read them all yet but so far I’m addicted to them all. I find all these books so cute and interesting and fun. Plus I love how Alice Oseman always has something important such as an eating disorder to talk about in these books. I think it’s important to be able to read a book with important topics like that in them. Not only is the cover super cute but the story inside is amazing. This was two people needing each other and helping each other heal. I loved the found family aspect and all the amazing side characters. This can be read as a standalone but now I wanna go back and read the first two books of this series. We all have our goals and aspirations in life. However, most of the time we forget our real purpose. We become hungrier and hungrier for more, thus we are never contented. We make people recognize how important we are and we see ourselves above everyone else. There is always someone who is better than us, thus bad decisions are made at the expense of others and even if we win, it does not make us feel any better. We envy everyone and everything, hence we are not contented. Always craving for more and wanting more than what others have. We forget to consider other people’s feelings and often mistake arrogance with confidence. Ego destroys us, more so, it hurts our loved ones. We live in our own fantasy and get disconnected from reality, hence we are never happy. We forget our priorities and we lose sight of the most important people in our lives because all we think about is ourselves and live in the world of our fantasy. Humility is the greatest enemy of ego. We need humility to go back to the real world - rock-hard humility. When we turn our focus on what we have instead of what others have, then we can appreciate the things that are on our hands. When we focus on what we don’t have, happiness and contentment will never be found because no one in this world have everything. We can only be genuinely happy and content when we learn to accept the things we are blessed with and fully appreciate every waking day. This was a quick and suspenseful story by an author I’ve never read before. The story follows a high school boy who has escaped the imprisonment of the town’s infamous ‘Bloody Heart’ serial killer that has been kidnapping high school boys for years. The killer is identified as Randall Thompson and is now in custody. Successful defense attorney Robert Kavin offers to take the case… the strange part is, he happens to be the father of one of the victims of the Bloody Heart killer. Meanwhile, our main character Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist working with individuals with violent tendencies. She meets and teams up with Robert to create a profile of the killer to help prove Robert’s innocence. The further she digs, the more she thinks that the people around her are hiding things, and it all spirals into a dangerous ending. I’m always very intrigued when the main character has a career that involves working with criminal psychology in some way, so naturally I really enjoyed the main character’s point of view and role. This book has Criminal Minds vibes which I loved! There were a couple moving parts to this story that I enjoyed trying to figure out how they were connected (and unsuccessful in doing so)! What the River Knows ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m not lying when I tell you I d e v o u r e d this book in 24 hours. Why did I sleep on this book for so long?! 😍 Inez is witty and sarcastic and bold and I love everything about her. The banter and sarcasm in this book is SO good and had me laughing out loud. Also, the bits of artwork/sketches that are scattered throughout the book were so unexpected and unique. I loved it. About half way through the book I had a gut feeling not to trust a certain character, but the twist at the end had me SHOOK. I’m unwell. ✨Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll✨ For my 20th book of 2024, I chose this fictional account of the Ted Bundy murders. The people and some of the events/details have been embellished or fictionalized for the story, but it is based on true events. I loved this book. I loved loved loved that Jessica Knoll shifts the focus from Bundy to the victims in this story. He is not even actually named, only referred to as ‘The defendant.’ She shows the victims/survivors in this story as whole well-rounded people instead of just the unfortunate women whose lives were cut short by this dirtbag. She works to combat all of the positive leaning headlines in the newspapers of the day that glorified Bundy into a larger than life handsome, clever guy by expressing how ordinary and unimpressive he was. Side note: dude looked creepy as hell. He was not good looking at all. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and although it gave me some really weird dreams, I recommend this one whole-heartedly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Have you read this one? What was the first book you bought this year? This one was mine and I JUST got around to reading it 🙃 I bought this book purely because it was so pretty and the character art on the inside cover was fantastic. The concept sounded cool too so that was a plus. The book started really strong but so wordy. This is the second book I’ve read by the author so it seems to be her writing style. Because of this I got lost about halfway through and just had no idea what was going on. “The game” everyone kept talking about wasn’t explained well and I just didn’t know what was happening. It kinda just seemed like the entire book was this whole host of characters who were trying to hide from one another that they actually care about each another. It was a bit of a drag and should have been way more interesting because the variety of characters were so cool. Fox was by far the most interesting character; and though the book summary makes it sound like the book will focus more on Viola and the Ghost it focuses on Fox so much more which was a better choice in my opinion because he was was more exciting. In the end I did enjoy it, even though it did lose me for a bit. ACOMAF picks up where ACOTAR left off and it was hard for me to put the book down! I feel like this second book is all about Feyre discovering who she is and what she wants moving forward as an immortal. There was a lot of history brought up that fills in gaps from the first book. There were several times when my mouth literally dropped at the plot twists! I just wish there was a little bit more action in this book, but I know it is leading up to it for the third. Btw - everyone talks about Ch. 55 but y’all need to focus on Ch. 54!! Also, I talked about this book so much while on my honeymoon, that my husband started to get reel suggestions for it 😂

Books 15, 16 & 17 of 2024 - AKA One hit and two misses. Book 15: Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond. The hit. This one really struck a chord with me on many counts, and was a bit of a wake up call in a way. It deals with the stories of three women, all overweight, who come together at a weigh in group. Three strangers with very different lives but a shared common goal, who come to support each other in so many life changing ways, through loss and love and beyond. Very engaging characters and storyline, one I think I'll hang on to and read again! Book 16: Murder on Lake Garda by Tom Hindle. Sigh. A real disappointment. This is the third of Tom Hindle's novels, the first, Fatal Voyage, was OUTSTANDING. The the two follow ups are very wide of the mark for me. Nice enough stories to pass the time with, but too easy - with this third book, like the second, I'd worked out the killer and motive by about halfway through, at which point the rest of the book is just fluff. What a shame! Book 17: The Devil's Recruit by S. G. MacLean. Another miss. This is the fourth and last in the Alexander Seaton series. Maybe the author became fed up with him, but in this story the character becomes very unlikeable very quickly. The ending is a bit baffling, abrupt and unexpected but not in a good way! I was laughing and swooning like I am in all her books. So of course I expected nothing less. Now let’s take a second and talk about MILES. Our disheveled tatted king. Why am I the only one who doesn’t think he is nick miller coded? Nonetheless I’ll take two of him please. I adored the way he was with Daphne, always gentle with his words. I’m all in for this man. The banter is sarcastic and flirty and that’s my love language so I ate this up 😌 The prom scene and the side of the road pit stop was a favorite 😅 & The angst was angstinggg. The ending was unfortunately underwhelming for me but not enough so that it changed how I feel about the book in its entirety (So many others told me they loved the ending so don’t let me discourage you, EVER) Was this my favorite Emily Henry book? No. But do I recommend? Of course. You honestly can’t go wrong with any of her books. She is the girl you go to for a good summertime love story 💛 Hopefully if you’ve read it you loved it and if you are about to start it, happy reading! ☺️
