Lots of works were in our hands, but we took time to create what can be considered as a quick, no-nonsense, league-worthy race track in #UR2D2: welcome to St. Collard's Motoring Park, Ireland's premier (fictitious) club circuit! It's wide, fast, and high-speed, yet yields its own set of challenges through its set of corner complexes, with a beautiful scenery to match. It is made with online racing in mind; one lap in the community's official league car Formula eSports takes around 32-33 seconds, with 31.9x a possibility. This car is broken to two parts with their own set of liveries due to the number. Fan of #JTCC? Here's something: Part 1 features Calsonic, BP, Kyoseki, and Unisia JECS, while Part 2 features the HKS and AXIA Skylines. These cars competed in the real-life Japanese Touring Car Championship in the early 90s and these liveries are just some names from the full list you can drive. Dear Reader, You're (Not) Losing Me. We're back to December, but #Cartober still goes on, now as a series of #UR2D2 mods you can drive, almost living a new life! While the graphics for the cars are ready, with some of them being refined, the work focuses on their stats, with each car expected to populate their expected tiers. It turns out that setting up their proper stats is anything but straightforward, as there are more things to keep in mind: weight and image size affecting end acceleration, categorization, et cetera. However, we're striving to make sure that the end result will be satisfactory. The Cartober collection will be our final major project for this year in the top down racing game genre. #Cartober Day 31 - TWR WSC-95 October has finally passed us by, and it has been a journey for us to showcase you our cars for #UltimateRacing2D2 for the past 31 days, some are new, some are already released. As a farewell gift for this year, we present you the TWR WSC-95, a Le Mans winner that starts out as a Jaguar Group C car, becomes a Porsche-backed project, and later a Le Mans winner until Porsche takes over a year later. #Cartober Day 30 - Ferrari 333 SP The penultimate round of #Cartober2023, #UR2D2 style, belongs to the Italian prototype racer that defined the 90s sports car racing! The one that has found success in many races including Daytona and Le Mans! The 333 SP is also one of the real cars we made during the #TurboSliders days, but despite the car being finished, it didn't see the light of release. #Cartober Day 17 - Honda NSX (NA) And as we complete the "trinity" to return to the normal programming, let us reveal a link between the cars you've seen this past 36+ hours or so: not only the three car you've seen are prominent road cars that are considered as JDM legends, but they were also rivals in All-Japan GT Championship (now Super GT). The fourth-gen Supra was there since the championship's day one in 1994 while Nissan would start using the R34 Skyline in 1999. The NSX, however, started joining the fray in 1996, despite only starting out with fewer teams owning the car. Throughout working on this graphic also, we realized Gordon Murray owned one of these cars, making it an unexpected link towards McLaren F1 as well, which makes sense given that this car would be one of those that inspired him to design it. #Cartober Day 14 - McLaren F1. Concluding the second week of #Cartober2023 and the week dedicated to solely foreign cars is one from the past: McLaren F1, an upcoming #UltimateRacing2D2 car but also a finished car on the original #TurboSliders, back when it was a 2D game. The car wasn't only a great performer on the road, but also on racetracks, and has won automotive awards during its time. Bringing back this car to a top down racing game after 7 years is a no-brainer choice. Also, we've prepared one single memorabilia. #Cartober Day 13 - Renault Sport Spider, dedicated to @aspecinta Yes, you heard that right, we dedicate this 13th day of Cartober with a #UltimateRacing2D2 rendition of our Renault Sport Spider to one of Gran Turismo 2's most ambitious projects. We've followed your project since you shared JGTC, and thanks to you we now know how interesting this convertible car is. While the source material is a hardtop version, we built the open top version which has a lot more detail needed for the interior, covered in detail. Rest assured, however, the hardtop version is on the cards as well, maybe we should make the Cup Car version too? Day 5 - Suzuki Liana GLX Sedan For the fifth day of #Cartober, we made a reasonably-priced car in less than a day! That's right, this is _the_ car from the famed segment! The one that goes well with Urist's Top Gear Test Track (available on Steam Workshop) as well as a tribute to the late Sir Michael Gambon, the guest star whose last corner antics earned him the corner's namesake. The perfect car for the perfect occasion! As far as performance goes, it might be weird to see a car like the Liana sedan prancing around a top down racing game like #UltimateRacing2D2, but as history has proven, sometimes a legendary car doesn't need to be fast. Day 4 - Subaru Impreza WRX Sedan (GC8). Yes, the first-gen Impreza. While a pink Impreza might be a cursed sight, there are two reasons for this: 1) showcasing the car being one of those with custom color support in #UltimateRacing2D2, allowing for players to choose a different color from the base car (of which this process is explained); 2) Mean Girls reference, the second and perhaps the last. It's something in our minds after deciding to choose the efini RX-7, which would be followed with the fact that this was actually made a year after our first RX-7 for #UltimateRacing2D2: the Spirit-R version, which was re-worked as well. Day 2 of #Cartober (kinda late, I know): the road-going Group A dominator Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32). Yours truly has made the R32 in various media, especially a 3D model, but never a top down racing car mod at that time. A decision was made to make the car which effectively made a second #UltimateRacing2D2 car to be released publicly, but it was its Group A racing version (2 versions to be exact) that actually had more downloads than the roadgoing version, even still the most popular out of released contents to this day. First of all, congratulations in order for Toyota as they have won the Manufacturer's Championship in this year's #FIAWEC! A short view back to the past, however, there's the GT-ONE, Toyota's own GT1 contender, a weapon of choice for the Japanese brand's campaigns from 1998 to 1999. The GT-ONE (codename TS020) features a bodywork that may or may not influence how closed-cockpit prototypes would look, even years later. Welcome to the 20 followers who decided it would be a good idea to follow our top down racing game modding progresses mixed with hyperfixations over Taylor Swift, of all others! We come with the new goods, namely, the iconic Nissan R390 GT1! This 1998 version of the car has something similar to #1989TaylorsVersion in terms of the works team livery's colors, at least to us. It is also our first R390 GT1 in 7 years in which it, to this day, has never been released since due to circumstances. After 7 years, however, the car will eventually race on to Ultimate Racing 2D 2, mainly to Shake it Off against their rivals, which will also be released soon! #TheErasTour? No, but hear us out: so we thought as a #LeMans themed post, we'd share this one. Initially, we'd showcase one of our old creations for Turbo Sliders, being the Ferrari 333SP, celebrating Ferrari's victory in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans weeks back. However, we realize that, seeing my own WIP list that froze through time during the TS hiatus, there are actually more to the "Le Mans Cars" than the 333SP alone, and with Ultimate Racing 2D 2 happened, there are bigger chances that these will see the light of the day, even in remade form since I don't think these won't look good as they are now. Both Turbo Sliders (the original 2D racer) and UR2D2 have a similarity that both cars are sprite-based, meaning that you can put any PNG file to the mix. The way the car files are handled, however, are different, with TS's approach allows for unique and deeper physics parameters for each car while UR2D2's are much simpler in its approach and a Car Class system. However, this, and many more differences, are topics to be told for another day. Process-wise, I kinda hate the shading despite them being good, mostly due to the method I used. At that time, I mainly used the Brush tool for most (if not all) shading processes, but the more I worked on them with such a method, the more I hated the workflow that I had to stop. Now that I mastered a new method which has been a mainstay on newer cars, these can be remade in shorter time. Car size proportions also factored in as the car sizes during those works were "rough estimates" within the 50x100 space, whereas newer cars fit the shape exactly, making the scaling work much easier by utilizing 1/50 scale to their real-life dimensions. Some cars have been released to the public while some weren't. The Daytona Coupe, the F1 GTR, the 333SP, and the DBR9 were already released years ago, though I'm not sure if anyone's still playing the original TS to this day. If there's enough interest, I can consider fine-tuning the cars and release the ones waiting to see the light the day, but for now, please do expect them in re-made form for UR2D2! #LeMansCentenary #LeMans24 #LM24 #TurboSliders #UltimateRacing2D2 #UR2D2 #Gaming
It's been a while, but we are returning on a high! Presenting Gran Turismo's very own Grand Valley Speedway! Yes, make no mistake! This is one of Gran Turismo's most iconic tracks, the Grand Valley Speedway, in its top down racing form. The track combines GT2's layout and GT4's environment, and is done by tracing on the game's track editor on the fly, along with other decorations. The rest of the decorations however are done in Photoshop which covers cliffs, shadows, and tunnel projections (which wasn't perfect admittedly), as well as manipulations on additional track paths and barriers, something not achievable in the track editor. Grand Valley is set in a mountainous area and it wouldn't be representative of such without them, especially with other tracks employing techniques to create cliffs or mountainous areas. Like in the original game, the track consists of two configurations, both of which can be run in reverse. The East circuit is the shortest configuration of the track, but provides the right element to be a track for online races, with a combination of fast and slow corners. The main configuration, the Speedway, is the full experience of the track, traversing between hairpins and crossing through the lake and mountainous parts of the track as they come across the iconic bridge, all with its own set of challenges. However, releases don't stop there; two new cars, being the 1993 Subaru Impreza WRX and Ford Escort RS Cosworth, as well as updated versions of Mazda RX-7 FD Spirit R and Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, are available as well! All these cars, bar the RX-7, are classified as Touring Cars, and there are actually plans to make some of them into Sports Cars in order to compete against other Sports Car-classed releases, as well as new cars based on these releases.
