I have never liked the T230 celica except this one. Being such a big fan of the T185 and T205 when the T230 came out it would be putting it lightly to say I was disappointed. That being said trust Wedsport and monocraft to do things right and make the car interesting. The car saw quite a bit of success which was interesting being an FF car finishing the championship 4th in its first year with two wins and then 5th the next year in 2005 with another win. After the Okayama GT 300km two weeks ago, we move 547km to Fuji Speedway and while we learned a lot about both classes at Okayama, Fuji Speedway is not only a completely different track but also a different kind of race. Counting as Super GT's first ever timed race, the Fuji GT 3 Hours is where we can see who not only excels at endurance racing but also who has the best top speed and trimmed out aerodynamic package and setup. Toyota couldn't be stopped at Okayama and with a new engine, could that very well be the same story for the 3 hours? The No.38 KeePer Cerumo GR Supra of Hiroaki Ishiura/Toshiki Oyu remain favorites despite the retirement of Yuji Tachikawa meanwhile from Nissan and Honda the No.3 Niterra Motul Z, No.12 Marelli Impul Z, No.100 STANLEY Civic Type-R GT and No.17 Astemo Civic Type-R GT can always reliably perform at the Shizuoka Prefecture circuit. For a high speed circuit you wouldn't normally consider a GTA-GT300 car a favorite due to their downforce but both No.2 muta Racing GR86 GT and No.61 Subaru BRZ R&D Sport had consistent results over the two Fuji Speedway raced last season but while they're consistent, the No.56 Realize Nissan Mechanic Challenge GT-R have won and so did the No.11 Gainer Tanax GT-R which means this is one of the GT-Rs best tracks, which matches its characteristics as the Nissan is one of the faster cars in a straight line. One of my most recent posts happened to be about the influence of his and his LIMIT team’s engineering in the JGTC. But as many others have drawn attention to since his passing, he leaves an important legacy. A legacy which will be kept alive by @tohira_official and those he inspired On a personal note he will always be especially remembered by myself as the seasoned Nissan works driver who took on the 24 hours of Spa in 1990 in the ZEXEL nr.56, sister car to my nr.55, where together with his codrivers he gave NISMO and the Nissan Skyline GT-R the historic Gr.N 1-2-3 sweep on their first try at this most prestigious race, considered the ”Le Mans of touring cars” Thank you Tohira-san, you will be remembered

Gainer shakedown, GT500 testing at Suzuka! In-season testing has kicked into high gear for Autobacs Super GT Series teams and tire suppliers as GT500 teams test at Suzuka Circuit and Gainer shakedown their No.11 Gainer Tanax Z before it's debut in the Fuji GT 3 Hours on May 3-4. The latter held their shakedown at Okayama International 2 weeks after showing the car for the first time in public at the Okayama GT 300km. The impressions from full season drivers Ryuichiro Tomita and Keishi Ishikawa were very upbeat, comparing the GTA-GT300 Z to previous generations of GT500 cars in terms of handling. Meanwhile 270km away at Suzuka Circuit, GT500 teams are conducting tire testing. Toyota, Honda and Nissan all have teams undergoing the test and likewise Bridgestone, Yokohama and Dunlop are all running cars. The rare non Bridgestone winners at Okayama! Bridgestone dominance is a phrase you will hear a lot this season. With only three out of the fifteen GT500 cars not on Bridgestone tires, it not only makes it easier for Bridgestone to win but makes it an uphill battle for Yokohama and Dunlop. That said, even with Michelin involved, Bridgestone remained with the upper hand. At Okayama International Circuit, the No.36 au Tom's GR Supra's victory in this year's Okayama GT 300km was the 14th win by a Bridgestone supplied car since the championship was rebranded as Super GT in 2005. Funny enough, that first race in 2005 was not won by a Bridgestone supplied car. That race would be claimed by the No.25 Eclipse Advan Supra of Manabu Orido/Dominik Schwager. This win marked the only non Bridgestone supplied Toyota to win in this time frame and one of two Yokohama cladded cars to win since 2005. The other? You'd have to jump 4 years I to the future to witness the No.24 HIS ADVAN Kondo GT-R's victory at the event. Joao Paulo Oliveira and Seiji Ara would have the honor of driving the GT-R to victory in 2009. Three other additional non Bridgestone wins were from Michelin and subsequently, Nismo. One year earlier in the GT-R's debut season, victory came in the way of Satoshi Motoyama/Benoit Treluyer in the No.23 Xanavi Nismo GT-R. That was their second consecutive victory at the time as Okayama was the second round of the season and not first. Nismo would win again at the Mimasaka based circuit in 2016, with the team hot off of claiming two consecutive titles, Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli would open up the season with victory in the No.1 Motul Autech GT-R. Locked in some great time in the garage the other day working on the power, ground and switch wiring. One of the reasons the project has been down so long this time around is mainly due to the sheer amount of projects I for some reason decided to undertake. I guess I realized that the work I did 6 years ago was now out of date and more importantly a possible safety issue. For driving around town maybe not so much but for the intended track use, most definitely. Smaller junk wires, lack of inline fuses, convoluted relay switch panel, and not using proper push button start or kill switch. Heck 6 years ago relay panels had to be made by scratch and now you can buy premade boxes on Amazon for 35 dollars that are fantastic. So on the rebirth I'm basically rewiring the entire car. It's not so bad seeing how now I have a great idea of how I want everything ran and also much better understanding on how electrical systems work. I'm excited to have a new confidence when it comes to the wiring and should have the wiring aspect sorted shortly. Baby steps. Progress clearly shown, a great start to the season for Sard! Finally winning the GT500 title in 2016, Sard has worked tirelessly ever since to return to that level of competitiveness in the category. With Juichi Wakisaka leading in addition to Yuhi Sekiguchi/Yuichi Nakayama pairing up for the third season in a row, emphasis in the off-season were with the engineers and data accumulation. Perhaps a sign of a positive change in their competitiveness, the Okayama GT 300km showed a strong Sard. Placing 5th in practice, Sard's real impressive feat was in qualifying, with Yuhi Sekiguchi and Yuichi Nakayama both putting in laps in the 1:17 range, making them one out of two lineups to do so. That would be a theme for the race as well. With 9 year old tires, Yuhi Sekiguchi would open the race, filing in second behind the No.36 au Tom's GR Supra. A strong stint that lasted 31 laps, Sard would successfully defend from an undercut to return on track second with Yuichi Nakayama behind the wheel. Nakayama would duel with the No.100 STANLEY Civic Type-R GT and successfully win the battle over the 4 door machine. Entry list released for Fuji GT 3 Hours! The first JGTC/Autobacs Super GT Series race to be held over a length of time instead of laps, the Fuji GT 3 Hours set to be held on May 3-4 has had its entry list released by the GT Association. The entry list, sees the full 42 car grid, with 15 in GT500 and 27 in GT300, included the No.11 Gainer Tanax Z that was revealed at Okayama with the intention to compete in Round 2. No driver changes are present for Round 2 in both GT500 and GT300. The additions to note for the Golden Week race are the third drivers, some of which are making their Super GT debut. One of the debutant is Yusuke Mitsui who will join Takashi Kobayashi/Syun Koide in the No.18 Upgarage NSX GT3. Charlie Fagg is another debutee, competing alongside Tomonobu Fujii/Marco Sorensen in the No.777 D'Station Racing Aston Martin. Elsewhere Bruno Spengler and Yuta Fujiwara join the No.7 Studie BMW M4 and No.9 Pacific VSPO NAC AMG respectively.
