A few new arrivals over the past week. 1st arrival was the new accurascale mk2b RTC twin pack coaches, the detail on them is incredible and look right at home with my Sutton locomotive works class 24. 2nd was Heljan class 57 57601 Windsor Castle, I'm abit on the fence about this model as the tooling is very dated and lack of lighting upgrades let's this model down compared to the bachmann class 57. Next to arrive was some more mk2b coaches this time in West coast railways livery, as with the RTC pack these are incredible for what they are and I'm looking forward to getting some more in the future. Finally took a trip to my local model shop and found a Lima Deltic D9015 Tulyar for a reasonable price and was one that I had been looking for, for a long time. A surprise last, minute delivery, hornby A4 4490 Empire of India. It has been on order since it was announced to go with the coronation set also on order. The @accurascale stand was the next stop with a number of locos that I’m excited for - plus the Pannier. 😂 Whilst I definitely feel more drawn to the Transition era there’s a number of modern locos that I love and the Class 66 66779 “Evening Star” is definitely one of them. - maybe it’s just nice to see a modern loco in BR Green with the late crest applied! The second batches of the Class 37 are looking great too - I’ve got D6600 down as a pre-order (do I need a third one?) The recently revealed GWR Panniers do look fantastic too, even in prototype form. The detail achieved is already stunning. Maybe a BR Black one in late crest wouldn’t be so bad after all? 😂 The Accurascale guys on the stand are always so of the best to talk too as well. Also put to the test on the @mmrs1925 Monday OO running session were the two latest additions to the fleet, the @accurascale English Electric Type 3s D6700 & D6702. I was impressed with these when I opened the box and got them out, but seeing how well they run it takes it to the next level. So here are the two latest diesels in the fleet, the @accurascale English Electric Type 3s D6700 & D6702 looking great in their early BR Locomotive Green with late crest liveries. First impressions are fantastic, they’re well put together, detailed and very heavy - something I’m hoping will give them some fantastic pulling power. What better loco to follow DP1 then one of the production versions of the resulting English Electric Type 5/Class 55 ‘Deltics’ that were ordered because of it. After DP1 successfully proved the concept that the Napier Deltic marine engines could be employed in powerful express locomotives, British Railways ordered 22 units to work top-link expresses on the East Coast mainline. Introduced into service in 1961/62 and producing 3,300hp with a top speed of 100mph they were the most powerful diesel locomotives in the world. Here we have the @accurascale D9007 ‘Pinza’ showing the Deltics in their original livery with green front ends prior to the introduction of the yellow warning panel. Introduced to service in April 1962 as the 8th member of the class ‘Pinza’ was based at Finsbury Park depot. She was repainted in the new corporate British Rail Blue with full yellow ends during a general repair at Doncaster in October 1968 and worked the East coast mainline until she was withdrawn from service in December 1981 along with the entire fleet and subsequently cut up for scrap at Doncaster in August 1982. Thankfully, out of the 22 built 6 have survived into preservation. I never fail to be impressed with the @accurascale Deltic. And here she is - the @accurascale GWR Manor class 7802 ‘Bradley Manor’ in all her glory. I’ve had a few of Accurascales products now and have always been impressed by them - the levels of accuracy and detail they’ve gone to with their diesel locomotives is second to none, I’ve got a couple of their Class 55 Deltics and they’re the best representation of those east coast beasts. With the Manor being their first steam loco release it’s obviously a chance to see if their success in the world of diesel can be replicated in the world of mainline steam locomotion. ‘Bradley Manor’ has been released as a limited edition in conjunction with @keypublishingbooks @hornbymagazineofficial and shows 7802 as she is in preservation. First impressions are that Accurascale have once again gone over and above in their quest to deliver the definitive Manor. She has an excellent weight to her, the BR Locomotive green and orange lining is beautifully represented - I’m particularly impressed with the matt finish on the smokebox and the inclusion of such minor details such as a possible water filler cap on the tender, far from being a frivolous unnecessary detail shows the lengths Accurascale are prepared to go to to set their products apart from the competition. The Great Western Railway is the most underrepresented of the big four in the fleet but now with the arrival of the excellent release - it’s time to start reading up about the 78xx. With the arrival of the first of my 2 accurascale class 37s, I thought It would be a good to put this side by side with my bachmann sound fitted deluxe model for comparison. The bachmann model (37418) is a very good model and has many pros and cons to it the biggest con is the price but was lucky to buy it considerably cheaper than rrp. The snowploughs are a big issue too which is something i need to experiment with, thankfully no issues with the accurascale one. The accurascale version (37402) is in another league with detail and looks and the sound is incredible. After seeing the @accurascale Making Tracks 3 stuff it’s made me very happy I’ve ordered the upcoming Class 66 GBRf 66779 ‘Evening Star’ resplendent in her unique BR Green livery. Whilst I’ve been trying to wind down on the modern image stuff - this is one that kept catching my eye. The Class 66 is staple part of the UK rail scene so having one in the fleet feels a must, especially if Accurascale are going to improve on the already good Hattons tooling. Something a bit different today and actually, a return to model railway jobs!! I decided (at 7am this morning) to start weathering these wonderful, pristine, shiny @accurascale HDA’s. All the MGR’s are at various stages of weathering and now leaving to dry overnight. They might get some thin white washes or light powder to soften the tone a bit but, for day 1, I’m quite happy with where things are. Like everyone else (it seems), I have just received my delivery of the @accurascale Mk5A set. On first impressions, I think it came be summed up by the expression, ‘By ‘eck!’ as they’re simply stunning. Everything, from the box they’re in, to the fine details on the carriages is just jaw-dropping. THIS is the standard that should be the benchmark of what is possible in OO, and all without spending ridiculous amounts of money. A 5-coach set for less than a certain A3 in DCC ready condition? I know where I’d rather spend my money! @accurascale have done it again…. Accurascale’s Mk5a’s arrived today in the form of TP01. These are quite possibly the most detailed models in the collection, with even etched detail on the bottom of the models, something which can only be seen if turned upside down! I haven’t had any running issues so far (I haven’t tried propelling but can’t see there being issues thanks to the magnetic couplings). I also still need to fit the destination blinds. Finally received my @accurascale Class 92 today in Caledonian Sleeper livery and DCC Sound. Popped it on the programming track and was able to read and write to the decoder just fine (set address, thats it). Using the programmer, I popped over to test mode (track power), heard a slight pop, and was never able to read/write to it again. Took the decoder out of the socket, popped onto the decoder tester, and it was fully dead. It just made a very high pitched wine noise. Emailed them tonight to see what to do. It looks awesome and I can’t wait to get it running! I hope they can send me a decoder so I can just install and get it running again! #accurascale #accurascaleuk #accurascalemodelrailways #oogauge #modeltrains
If they gave out awards for the best stand in the show, to my mind it should go to @accurascale who had theirs packed with product and the guys themselves were beyond polite and an absolute pleasure to talk to. I forgot to take photos of it all but each cabinet was filled with 🤤 goodness. Highlights were the GWR Manors which are coming very soon, the Transpennine Express Mk 5a (which should be coming around Christmas) and the newly announced Class 50. I hadn’t paid much attention to the 50 announcement as, being a BR green man, these kinda passed that era by. However, after some chattering I could easily get one of the D-numbered BR Blues for a bit of a transition-style action which has definitely got me thinking… They were also good enough not to eject me despite my constant badgering about their next steam project, a tactic which eventually paid off and got some minor results… 😉 #accurascale #accurascalemodelrailways #oogauge #gwr #greatwesternrailway #manorclass #class50 #newreleases
