Here’s “Lethal Skies II” for the PS2! After finishing all of the Sony console Ace Combat games (except for “Air Combat”), I decided I wanted to keep the combat flight train rolling in anticipation of “Ace Combat 7”’s July release on the Switch. And what better way than to keep that train rolling than with some Ace Combat-lite! I beat the first Lethal Skies game when I was playing through my PS2 collection last year, and I got about halfway through this far-superior sequel when I played it for the first time last May. This game is an upgrade over its predecessor in about every possible way except for maybe the manual. Asmik Ace really went all-out with this title and their effort is very much appreciated as this is a really fun game. The missions are short and sweet, exactly how I like them, and it took me all of an hour and fifteen minutes to beat all 16 of the primary missions. That time doesn’t include re-plays where I died, but the game certainly doesn’t overstay its welcome. Unlike Ace Combat games, your weapons loadout is limited here, so you have to be mindful when you’re choosing and loading up your plane as well as your wingmen’s. There are wingman commands, but it felt like they were mostly useless, especially when it came to them killing ground targets. Ironically, it was one of my wingmen who shot down the final boss which ended the game, so I didn’t even get the satisfaction of the final kill! It’s too bad that this was the end of the Lethal Skies series as there’s a lot to love about this game. The story was “Ehhhh”’ish, but the graphics, sound, and flight physics made it an enjoyable experience. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 hardpoints. In addition to active duty in the U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team, the US Air Combat Command F-16 Viper Demonstration Team, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured by the air forces of 25 other nations. As of 2023, it is the world’s most common fixed-wing aircraft in military service, with 2145 F-16s operational. Hey everyone! Today I have a modified version of @handsolo99 's X-02S Strike Wyvern! This is the prototype paint scheme from Ace Combat 7. It's a relatively light mod, mostly just recolors and a few piece swaps here and there but DAMN is it an amazing model!! Why weren’t there any combat flight games on the PS Vita?! Anyway, here’s “Ace Combat: Joint Assault” for the PSP on the Vita. As much as I didn’t overly-enjoy this game, it did look good on the Vita 1000’s OLED display! Even though I have the UMD, I was initially playing the ISO off of PKGj. While I was playing through, after some missions or cutscenes, the screen would go black and the game locked. After restarting the game, I could pick up where I left off and continue…until I got to a certain point in the game (after a mid-air refueling segment). Nothing I did would allow me to progress as the game would fade to black. I searched online and found the refueling stage wasn’t just the end for me. Other users piped up that there was some issue with the ISO and if it was converted to a CSO, the game would play flawlessly. I downloaded a free converter, made the conversion, and played without issue the rest of the way. Have not had any other issue with ISOs playing on the Vita, so not sure if this is unique to “Joint Assault” or what. One thing I didn’t mention in my review of “JA” was just how sluggish the controls felt, especially in the pull-up function. I slammed into the ground after a steep strafing run more times than I ever did in any of my previous Ace Combat experiences combined. How’s about a little “Ace Combat: Joint Assault” on the PSP? With the upcoming July release of “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown” on the Nintendo Switch, my goal was to finish all the Ace Combat games on Playstation consoles (minus “Air Combat” (PS1)) before then, and, I have now done that when I beat ‘JA’ recently. With how great and positively-received ‘X: Skies of Deception’ was on the PSP, I was always curious why ‘Joint Assault’ was not looked as fondly upon, at least based on the reviews I read. All Project Aces had to do was repeat the formula, maybe up the visuals or something just a tad, and bask in the praise, right? Well, they didn’t. So what went wrong? They decided to set ‘JA’ in the real world, the first Ace Combat game to do so. But that wasn’t it, in fact, I saw it as a positive as the real world environments were pretty cool. The problem can be boiled down to two things: The story and the “enhanced” visuals. The story is just dumb. Basically it’s some dude who sells war insurance, funds terrorists to create chaos so he can sell more insurance, sells his company for hundreds of billions, and then creates a private army to make war which bankrupts the new war insurance companies thus leaving him to stand in the fold and reap the benefits. Sound dumb? It is. The other downfall is the introduction of a new visual system called “Enhanced Combat View” that changes the perspective of enemy aircraft making them appear larger in the screen and pushes the 3rd-person view of your plane off to the side a bit. Why did they do this? I guess some people complained that killing enemies with missiles was too far away to see the action. Dumb. It made the smooth flight physics of previous games just feel weird while dogfighting. The last bit of critique on my part was the difficulty level, even on easy. Some areas were too easy, but others were unnecessarily difficult and annoying. The voice acting was fine but repetitive. This plane use by the Russian navy Sukhoi Su-33 Flanker, oh they F-16 won’t clear off oh well. 😂 The Sukhoi Su-33 (Russian: Сухой Су-33; NATO reporting name: Flanker-D) is a Soviet/Russian all-weather carrier-based twin-engine air superiority fighter designed by Sukhoi and manufactured by Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association, derived from the Su-27 and initially known as the Su-27K. Compared with the Su-27, the Su-33 has a strengthened undercarriage and structure, folding wings and stabilators, all for carrier operations. The Su-33 has canards, and its wings are larger than the Su-27 for a slower stall speed. The Su-33 has upgraded engines and a twin nose wheel, and is air refuelable. First used in operations in 1995 aboard the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, the fighter officially entered service in August 1998, by which time the designation “Su-33” was used. Following the break-up of the Soviet Union and the subsequent downsizing of the Russian Navy, only 24 aircraft were produced. Attempted sales to China and India fell through. This jet use by the US Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet. The Super Hornet has an internal 20mm M61A2 rotary cannon and can carry air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, and a variety of other weapons. Additional fuel can be carried in up to five external fuel tanks and the aircraft can be configured as an airborne tanker by adding an external air-to-air refueling system. Designed and initially produced by McDonnell Douglas, the Super Hornet first flew in 1995. Low-rate production began in early 1997, reaching full-rate production in September 1997, after the merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing the previous month. The Super Hornet entered fleet service with the United States Navy in 1999, replacing the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, which was retired in 2006; the Super Hornet has served alongside the original Hornet. The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), which has operated the F/A-18A as its main fighter since 1984, ordered the F/A-18F in 2007 to replace its aging General Dynamics F-111C fleet.
