I tried something new this week, as if I don’t have enough hobbies as is 😬 Years ago my favourite jewellery brand @wolfandmoonshop offered free acrylic offcuts, I was ordering from them anyway and they sent it with my order. Me expecting cute little shapes that were leftover but instead it was sheets with shapes cut out of them (duh) and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. I did save it for all these years and then I saw @allesfuerselbermacher had silicon molds for casting powder/resin. And an idea was born. I spend quite some time cutting and breaking the sheet in small pieces and arranged them in the molds and poured the resin over it. I was so sure it would fail and the resin wouldn’t find it’s way all the way down but it did and it worked! So for now I have this cute tray and a candle stick holder. Strange thing is I used the same stuff en made it at the same time but the tray is shiny and the candle stick holder is matt, anyone with experience with resin know what’s that about? Well I’m ready to make some more cool things, probably get some more supplies and spend way too much money on this 😅 but I think it turned out soo pretty and I have much more acrylic offcuts left. I mulled over whether to post this pic. I’ve seen many wow cardboard robots made by kids on social media. And this is probably not an #instaworthy outcome. I had to remind myself process over outcome because it’s all about creativity. The kids directed the whole activity by themselves for an hour. I only provided the materials. Today's #MarchMeetTheMaker is 'Storage'. Since I'm focusing on recycled pieces this week I thought I'd show this satisfying shot. I got these really useful containers for storing my acrylic offcuts (they do have lids too). Of course I have a lot more than this as I have kept all my offcuts since I started Rock The Panda in 2018! I've got a lot of boxes to work through and sorting them, peeling them as well as breaking them up takes a fair bit of time so for the moment I'm working from these. (Reposted as I realised the rainbow didn't flow as it should on the last column and it was annoying me. Today's offcut recycling experiment. Not a fresh sheet but I actually revisted the first sheet I made so this is the 4th time I've used the press. It was originally badly pressed plain and marble white. I added two things to it but I'm going to keep it a secret as I'm possibly the only person who's tried this and I like to bring something unique to my work. Maybe you can guess what I did. I'm naturally quite an experimental person and I get ideas from very random things. This one was no different 😅 It was actually inspired by a mistake. You'd laugh if I told you how I got this idea but the point is it worked and it worked much better than I thought it would! I have a lot of white offcuts so I'm very happy that this has worked because it will open up a lot more possibilities. I've just got to check the laser cutting side of things. To those of you who have been in touch about offcuts to play around with, I sent a first load of bags out yesterday! Sorry it took a while - I’ve been gradually moving back into my studio and rearranging the space a bit, so it’s been a bit hectic.
