Mindful or mind FULL? Which one are you? Or a little of both? According to Life coach, Allison Sharpe, “Mind FULL is messy, sad, overwhelming, unproductive, not good. Mindful on the other hand is calm, and nice – like eating a warm chocolate chip cookie. Mind FULL is future focused whereas being mindful is ‘now’ focused. Mind FULL adds two items to your to-do list for each one you check off. Mindfulness lets you enjoy one moment, task or event at a time.” This concept of mindful vs, mind full reminds me of artist, Alex Katz and this portrait of his wife Ada. His paintings make us see the world the way he sees it, clear and up close, with all but the most essential details pared away. In a Katz painting, style—the way it’s painted—is the primary element. His “mindful” technique makes us see the world the way he sees it, clear and up close, with all but the most essential details pared away. According to Katz, “Sincere art is art that relies on subject matter to carry it.” No more, no less. Happy first day of 2022! “Upside Down Ada” 1965, by American artist, Alex Katz (b. 1927) @themuseumofmodernart #alexkatz #americanartists #figurativeart #figurativeartists #contemporaryartists #modernart #newyearsday #art #artoflooking #artobserved #mindful #allisonsharpe #artoftheday ☀️
Van Conversion update: I want to be able to stand up in my van so my dad and I are raising the van roof in my Chevy Express. The first step is removing the existing roof which you'll see us do in the latest Travel Snacks video! 💥 How to Build a High Top Van (Part 1: Removing the Roof) // Travel Snacks
So I cut my dads finger...with a saw. 😩 Yep, we were cutting bolts out of the van floor and the saw slipped. Ugh! (I feel terrible!) We also removed a BUNCH of wires. We only disconnected a FEW important ones 😁. You can see it all on the latest video on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 💥
The wheelchair lift is out! Next up... the backseat bench sofa that folds out to a bed. #vanconversionproject Stay tuned to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 🥳
The first step in my van conversion was to remove the wheelchair lift. This proved to be more time consuming because the screws were rusted. The Ricon wheelchair lift wasn't as heavy as my dad and I thought so that was a plus. Watch how we did it in the latest video posted today on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 🎉
This was only 1/3 of the wires we got out of the van today!! 😱 A couple things got disconnected but we can sort it out later. 👀 I’m excited to get all the non-essential wires out because after this we get to start on the roof. Raising the roof is probably going to be the most difficult part so I want to tackle it now and get it over with! p.s. today’s video has been pushed until tomorrow. 😊 Spent too much time disconnecting wires and didn’t finish editing! 🤪
If you haven’t joined in on Snack Chat Saturday you’re missing out! 🎉 We have so much fun chatting snacks, travel and all sorts of random topics. Plus we’ve started playing fun games. 🥳 The Snack Pack is so supportive and encouraging to each other and I love it! Hope to see ya next Saturday! 2pm PT / 5pm ET (You can catch today’s replay now on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel!)
Oh the possibilities... Don’t ever be afraid to try something new. It will probably be hard. You might get hurt. You might cry. You might (will) make mistakes. But once you get through it you’ll feel so strong and confident! This is what living is about. ♥️ Love you 😘
I know I already told you I got a van but... There are still some requests from the Snack Pack on #carlife videos. Including this one I just posted on how to keep food cold while on the road. I’ll be posting about ~7 more ‘living in a car’ videos. In between I’ll be posting van build videos and quick California adventures. Make sure your notifications are turned ON for the Travel Snacks YouTube channel!
First day working on my new van and I’m already pooped 😴 AND my Dad did 99% of the work 😂 Anyway, it’s gonna be a lot of work but very rewarding. Can’t wait to show you everything along the way. Stay tuned! And if you aren’t already subscribed to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel - what are you waiting for? Go do it now!!!! 🙌🏼
Oh hi. I’m just out here with chillin with my new van!! 🚐 Yep, I bought a van!! You can hear the story of how this happened in the latest video on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel. 💥 I’m officially part of the #vanlife community 🙌🏼 P.S. I’ll be converting this into a tiny camper that I’ll be living in full time!
I got an alpaca hat. Just in time for summer ☀️🥵😆 I got it to support the Magic on the Mesa Alpaca rescue. ♥️ They have a store with all kinds of alpaca stuff. They also have an on-site pot shop. You can see all about it in the last two videos on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 💯
If you love alpacas as much as I do, you're gonna love the new video I just posted. We visit an alpaca rescue farm in Landers, California called Magic on the Mesa. This is a self-funded rescue, run by Mike and Cyndie Fagan. We also try a mulberry for the first time and buy alpaca products from the onsite alpaca store. You can visit the alpacas too if ya want (by appointment!) See all the alpaca goodness on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel ♥️
Evening stroll through downtown #losangeles 🦋
I went to Sunset Cliffs in San Diego to see the bioluminescent neon blue waves. 🌊 It's like electricity in the water! It was so beautiful to see in person. I also got some delicious thai and cuban food. AND there's a dinosaur surprise at the beginning of the video! Uploaded today to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 🥳
This is one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve edited so far! Exploring the desert with my dad (and even my mom makes a few appearances!) 💕 We visit a hidden location in the desert called The Nude Bowl. An abandoned nudist colony! 🤭 Uploaded to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel today!
There’s a lot of planning and organizing going on behind the scenes. 💻 - where to go - what to do - what to film - where to go to the bathroom - where to sleep - where to edit - what to pack - and a bazillion other things to think about. I want to share it all with you ♥️ If there’s something you’d like me to make a video on... holla!
It took me 24 hours to drive home. When I realized the pandemic would cause a national lockdown, I was in Louisiana. I had to get home to California. 3 days with no shower and limited access to restrooms. The first thing I did when I walked in the door was go straight to my shower. And I didn’t even have to wear shower shoes! So luxurious! You can watch the last 14 hours of my drive home on my latest video posted to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel. I mean not literally you watching for 14 hours 😂 ... but I mean a log of the last day of my journey getting home. 💥 #sofreshandsoclean 🚿
The look I had when I found out all the Planet Fitnesses closed. 😡 For a car dweller like me, that meant NO MORE SHOWERS! 🚿 That’s when I knew I had to get on the road and drive home to California. You can see part 1 of that long journey in the latest Travel Snacks YouTube video.
Giant Rock. The largest freestanding boulder in the world! 7 stories tall! Back in the day (when I was a lot younger)this rock was hulled out and I actually went inside! Even though a big chunk cracked off in 2000, I’m glad to see it’s still here! There’s more to the story so I’ll be posting a video about this in the next couple weeks! (Hint: it involves aliens 👽🤔)
What is MY G.O.A.L.? Get Out And Live 🌎 Even if it means going far out into the desert I’m still going to enjoy this beautiful world God gave us. I’m going to continue to marvel at His creation. Soak in the sunshine. Breathe the fresh air. Appreciate all that I’ve been given. #faithoverfear ♥️
A quick two night stay in my car plus Cuban coffee. Ahhh the good life. 🥰 (I came to San Diego to see the bioluminescent ocean. Video coming in a couple weeks!)🌊 In the meantime you can check out a drive around video I posted yesterday of beautiful Carlsbad California. 🌴 On the Travel Snacks YouTube channel now!
We hit 4000 watch hours on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel today! 🎉 This was a team effort and the SNACK PACK really showed up!! 🥰 Ultimately though all glory is to God who makes a way out of no way. 🙌🏼 Now that the channel has 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours it’s eligible for monetization. It goes to the YouTube team for review now. During “normal times” this typically takes about one month. During coronavirus they note it could be much longer. But I’m believing for a SUPERNATURAL review time and that the channel will be monetized quickly. God is over all and His timing is perfect. 🙏🏼 #beanxiousfornothing
I've always wanted to go to the French Quarter in New Orleans! I finally make it there and I wasn't ready. I only get a couple hours to explore before I start to feel woozy. I do get to eat beignets at the original Cafe Du Monde, but it's all downhill from there. Full video just posted today! 💥🎉 Travel Snacks YouTube channel 🎊
When my hair was all brown I used to color my sparklers (grays) myself all the time. 💁🏻♀️ Now that I’m blonde it’s not as easy. This is the first time I’ve tried it and I have an even bigger appreciation for the awesome skills of my stylist Carlyn ♥️ @sagebrush.beautystudios For now this will do but I’m looking forward to letting the professionals handle my hair again. Anyone else missing their salon time? 🙋🏼♀️
I went on an adventure today 🌵 I filmed it all and will post a video about it in a couple weeks. Stay tuned! In the meantime I just posted a drive around video this morning. Driving Around Palm Springs during quarantine! Drive around videos are useful for: - trip planning - ASMR road sounds - research for moving to an area - meditation, relaxation or to zone out - when you want to take a virtual drive - nostalgia for places you've been being Watch now on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel! 🚗
I tried to visit St. Louis Cemetery #1 but you had to pay to go in! A PAID cemetery!!?? So I found another one that was open and made my own tour. I also get my NEW and improved car mattress and eat a delicious Shrimp Po Boy from Frady's One Stop. Watch the full video on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel now! 🥳
I never take my bed for granted now. Sleeping MANY nights in the backseat of my car was fine. It taught me to be resourceful and patient. It also gave me an appreciation for my comfy queen sized bed. Regardless of where I sleep I’ve learned to be content in all circumstances. Philippians 4:11 🙏🏼
Today I started planning my next journey! 🙌🏼 Just waiting for more stuff to open back up (I’m looking at you @planetfitness) then I can get back out on the road! I know it may still be a few weeks but I’m staying active until then. I’m walking a lot, started working out again and still putting out 3-4 new videos a week on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel! Have you been staying active?
“How can I hoist myself up and lay inside this watermelon?” 🤔 🍉 That’s what I was thinking. But I couldn’t get up there. Lol It was tilted forward so I would’ve just rolled out. 🤦🏼♀️ Oh well, it’s still a fun thing to see when you’re driving on the back roads of Mississippi. You can see more quirky stuff in my latest Travel Snacks YouTube video. Well actually the second to last video because I just posted a drive around video today. You can check that out too if you like that sort of relaxing drive video. Otherwise you can check out the video before it to see this giant watermelon.
Walk with me through the Mississippi Petrified Forest! I only talk at the beginning and end. The rest of the time you'll hear the crackling leaves, chirping birds, the rising wind and even a low flying airplane. Put in your earbuds or headphones and enjoy a peaceful walk through the trees! Just uploaded to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel! 💥
Why do I look like a scout troop leader?? Well you can find out on the replay of today’s Snack Chat Saturday live stream!! Today we explore the desert mountains of Yucca Valley. We go on an adventure to a mysterious house, take a short hike and discover a spiritual oddity in the desert. Catch up on all the latest episodes on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel!
I arrive in Mississippi only to find out that I'm too tired to do anything. I do try to muster up the energy to go listen to the Blues at the Blue Front Cafe though. I also give a backseat mattress update AND give you a tip to save money at Starbucks. 💲 NEW! Watch on the Travel Snacks YouTube channel now! 🎉
While you #stayhome may I ask a favor? 🙏🏼 I’m trying to reach a BIG goal. In order for my YouTube channel to be eligible to earn money I have to meet two requirements. 1000 subscribers (which we already hit!) AND 4000 watch hours! I’m pushing to reach the 4000 hours in the month of April. Will you help me? Yes? Ok you rock! 1) go to the Travel Snacks YouTube channel 2) click the Travel Snacks playlist 3) let all the videos play (you can even let it play as you sleep or do something else!) 4) that’s it! It’s free and you’d be helping me out tremendously! 🙌🏼 Bonus if you share this with a friend! ♥️
