In 1991 what was left of Armenia after decades of war and belonging to other governments, was given their independence. Eventhough most of the diaspora around the world has middle eastern heritage (aka western /ancient Armenia) we still consider this our home. Today we normally celebrate our independence but it is not a joyous occasion today. Over the past few days innocent civilians in one of the most historic villages have been targeted and had the lives of even children taken by the two countries who fear our tiny little Armenia so much when all we simply try to do is exist. This is a real crisis, a real war that no one even knows is happening. There is no aid to these people, no changing of profile pictures or painting of nails, no celebrities raising money.... Why because its not a profitable country that gives the USA kick backs or places to launder money. I'm not holding my tongue or giving a single F as to what anyone thinks of that statement because this is my heritage being taken, and once the take this border the others will be next, it's only a matter of time. ARMENIA 🇦🇲🤍 The Battle of Sardarabad took place between May 21-29, 1918 shortly after the Armenian Genocide. The Turkish Ottoman army had invaded Eastern Armenia 25 miles west of the capital Yerevan. The glorious victory of the Armenians halted the Ottoman advance into the rest of Armenia, inhibiting the complete destruction of the Armenian nation. In the words of Christopher J. Walker, had the Armenians lost this battle, "it is perfectly possible that the word Armenia would have henceforth denoted only an antique geographical term.” Last Summer, I finally had the chance to visit Sardarabad. Part of the reassessment would be the construction of the Sartarabad monument dedicated to the battle. Author was talented architect Raphael Israelian. Attached photo was taken in 2018 with our HomenetmenWUSA scouts along with hundreds of scouts from all around the world at the 11th Pan-Homenetmen Jamboree. On August 23, 1990, Supreme Council adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Armenia proclaiming the Armenian SSR abolished and the establishment of the Republic of Armenia. This is the second declaration of independence in modern Armenian history, the first having occurred on May 28, 1918 which led to the formation of the First Republic of Armenia. This First Armenian Republic was short-lived due to its partition by the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and Turkish Nationalist forces in late 1920. Independence Day is a good time to think about the meaning of freedom and the responsibilities that come with it. Independence Day is all about freedom. It’s a day to give thanks for the rights and liberties we enjoy and remember how hard people have fought throughout history. We believe that the declaration of Armenia’s independence was the result of many years of struggle. To be independent means to live a happy life, to be free to enjoy freedom. This day is very important to Armenians. This land is kept with the price of every soldier’s blood. These proud mountains symbolize identity, freedom and pride. These lands are recorded to be one of the earliest localities of humanity. There is beauty in it’s landscapes and the ancient traces left in the last thousands of years. This fraction of the Armenian Highlands has been and needs to be kept and protected by every Armenian regardless of where they live. Our nation is located in the crossroads of barbarism and autocracy which are a threat to our sovereignty and even existence. If we have been able to maintain our nation through wars for the last thousands of years, stopping would be giving up all that has been invested. It’s too deep to explain how it feels to be Armenian. The closest example is, hear the sound of the Duduk and you will know. We have no right to make a single mistake, because our physical resources are limited. The most important resource we have is human capital and the Armenian mind. It is high time to transition our politics. We must refrain from policies that do not secure our borders and turn elsewhere, but above all, the most trustworthy is the Armenian soldier, not the general commander, because the soldier will spare his last inch of blood to protect the borders. Diplomacy and politics may one day come in our favor, but the Armenian soldier will always be guarding the life of every village, town, monastery and city.
