Making a simple RFID sketch using the RC522 RFID sensor (not expensive) and looking into some mag locks because what's a lab without noisy doors! I had no idea that these NFC/RFID chips are just little memory cards that are powered with coils and an oscillator instead of conventional methods. It's of course much more complex then that especially with NFC and payment cards. The Keyestudio "PLUS" is a great dev board I've been wanting for a while. It's a Uno style board with a bunch of upgrades. The best part about it is you can switch the internal logic level from 5V to 3.3V! No more logic level converters (at least for prototyping). It also has USB type-C that uses a CP2102 USB to UART ASIC that's better than the ATMEGA 16U2 that the standard UNO uses and I could list all the reasons but to sum it up this ASIC (CP2102) was made specifically for this purpose. The efficiency for the power jack is in the 90% range where the standard UNO is in 40% - 50% range, the PLUS used a switch mode power unit instead of linear one. It also has all the important pins broken out with GND and PWR pins for each. My #ds3231 with a #promini is fixed! Kinda... It won't save programming if reset (brand new battery) and I think the temp gauge got fried too. I was changing the time for spring and touched the power cord's + to the onboard battery, fried my nano completely and damaged my ds3231. Finally got my Raspberry Pi 3 B+, 3.5 lcd and case. I've been configuring it to run raspbian and retropie only! No berry boot or noobs. Cracked open my Raw Thrills Pac-Man clock which I love looking at, except when it won’t keep time for very long. Seeing a familiar Atmel Mega328p may offer hacking possibilities but for now putting it on a switch automated through HomeKit and power cycling it at midnight a couple of times a week should keep it reasonably synced up.
