Fun Black History Facts about Kounselor Kels: I was always picked on in school for being the “White girl” because of how I talk and I guess where I lived or how I dressed, shoot I don’t know because none of it really made sense to me. But it was hurtful because it left me feeling unaccepted by my own people, and although all my White friends loved me, I also wasn’t part of their world and could never be fully accepted there either. My mom still talks about me leaving Greer as her little girl and coming back as a Black Panther ✊🏾 It wasn’t because I all of a sudden became anti-White, it was because I found my voice as a Black woman. I attended USC because we weren’t taught how important HBCUs were to the community or the impact they have on the world. But no shade to THE University of South Carolina 🤙🏾 because that PWI is where I found Black people who talked like me (whatever that means still), who enjoyed the “not black enough” stuff I enjoyed, and who knew their blackness was special and didn’t have to be put in a box! I minored in African American studies because I became kind of obsessed with learning everything that we never got in a History book. Today, I just play around on this blue app to make y’all laugh or drop a little knowledge. I don’t claim to be an expert on anything I talk about, but I love to learn and love to share what I’ve learned! At the end of the day, I am who I am… A God-fearing 25 year old born in 1984 😉 with her mama’s heart and her daddy’s dimples A mother who tries to be the best version of herself everyday because she knows her daughter’s watching A goofball who loves sarcasm, dark humor, and an occasional middle school dirty joke A survivor A therapist The One singing redneck woman at karaoke A friend if you need one Just a dope Black woman! Back to my regular cadence of very late monthly recaps… Finished books: 7📚 (2023 books 43-49) - I liked a lot of them! While I had both audio/text formats of several books, I easily consumed 70-80% of the month via audio. Lots going on and audiobooks help me multitask when I can’t find time to sit down and read with my eyes. 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣I hit 500 followers last month - which maybe is a silly thing to get excited about. I started this thing with zero expectations or intentions of having followers that aren’t already my friends/family, so I guess it’s just nice to know I’m not speaking into the void haha. I’ve been selling clothing that no longer fits me while attempting to purchase some of my fav items in my current size. I am getting rid of four more shadows from my depotted palettes. With this simple declutter, I have almost an entire empty z-palette (I have an organic dip in that shade and love this colour; obviously there are enough shades that having a dip genuinely impresses me), and have compressed all my remaining colours. The first is a mix of KvD, MAC, Makeup Geek, and Colourpop. The second is MAC, MUG, and Colourpop. The third is all Too Faced. Fourth is a mishmash, including a little quint I'd like to pan maybe next year. The last is Smashbox, Urban Decay, and Stila, including a little UD shade I organically hit pan on. I have 218 shadows here. I won't be adding this to a spreadsheet inventory because I dont have about half the names, but would like history going forward of what I have. Also, knowing the number will be helpful as I add up everything in my palettes and packaged singles as well. I'm so glad to have decluttered to this point, but I'm unsure of whether I want to depot more. I think it's because when I see things out of their original packaging, it's less appealing and it reminds me how much money I've wasted. I had a few shirts that were on my mind to declutter because they are backup shirts (shirts to throw on while running errands that are comfortable but guve a good enough put together look) I don't need anymore as I've replaced them with shirts I like more.
