Well The nerve pain in my head is from arthritis in my neck and skull. It won't get better. It will get worse. I think we had 33 injection sites today because we added some behind my ear. The occipital nerve block was 3.5 weeks ago, which was 2 steroid injections on the occipital ridge, helped. So we are trying some of the Botox behind my ear, which is further towards the nerve ending, which is an area that gets very irritated very frequently. I’ve had quite a few questions lately about why I keep mentioning barometric pressure’s impact on my symptoms, so I thought I would share a little bit of info. When the barometric pressure is steady, it kind of hugs your body like a natural, gorgeous compression garment. But when a storm is coming and the pressure drops, there’s less pressure on your body, and this can negatively impact anyone suffering from dysautonomia. #januarywhole30 Day 30: It's been a hell'ish start to 2024, but I made it through 30 days without added sugar, legumes, grains, dairy, alcohol, and all processed foods. The fact that my surgery recovery's been brutal helped a little, in that, some days I was too nauseous from the pain & pain meds to even think about eating🤢, but other times I just wanted to swim my sorrows away in ice cream & chocolate!!!🍦🤤🍫 I'm gonna extend beyond the 30 days, before moving on to the reintroduction phase because i'm meeting with an allergist and am hoping to get testing done to get to the bottom of my Oral Allergy Symptom triggers, that have been an issue since my 20's, and hopefully find out once and for all what exactly i'm allergic to!!!🙏🏼😳🙏🏼 Apparently, the first thing an allergist/nutritionist/dietician would have me do is eliminate common foods that cause issues, so i'm already ahead of the game w/ Whole30 cuz the first part of the program consists of eliminating all the commonly known culprits for 30 days, then systematically reintroducing them paying attention to how my body handles them...i'll just extend the 30 day elimination portion until I can get an appointment so i can do the reintroduction under a doctor's supervision.🤓 I sure hope i'm not allergic to ice cream or chocolate!!!🍦🙏🏼😳🙏🏼🍫 Cheers to a successful Whole30 elimination phase, y'all!!! I was debating whether or not to share this multi-days progress post tonight, but since tomorrow's the final day of the W30 elimination phase, I decided it'll deserve its own special post!!!🤓 My regular doc (in Vallejo) was able to find a doc here (in Sacramento) to see me in my despair for an adjustment. He was surprised at the intensity of my spasticity, and guesstimated that my ideal dose will be around 400 mcg's/day.😳 TL;DR: I was at 116.9 mcg/day, and since his 9.9% adjustment, i'm currently at 128.4 mcg/day. Seeing this broken down is oddly comforting because it makes sense, but bummed at the same time...cuz it's gonna take a lot of 10% adjustments to get to 400 mcg/day!!!🥴 Today, i'm grateful that the doc was able to squeeze me in yesterday (Monday 1/29), cuz I can tell there's another storm coming without checking the forecast!!! I'm guessing it would be soooo much more painfully intense without that little boost of baclofen to hold me over on top of being sickly!!! 🙏🏼🥴🙏🏼 Oh, ya...on top of everything, I caught a bug (probably while at Kaiser😩), and have been taking Sudafed to try and nip it before it has a chance to wreck me any further!!!🙏🏼😷🙏🏼 I'm happy to say i've managed to stick to my Whole30 commitment through all the madness of January!!!😬 #januarywhole30 Days 27, 28 & 29✅ It goes without saying, but please pray ya sista up!!! Days 25 & 26 have been another painfully rough couple days, but thanks to my chef-sista meal-preppin for me, and College Inn Chicken Broth, i've managed to stick to my Whole30 commitment, so that's a definite plus...🤓 I reached out in desperation to my Physical Medicine & Rehab doctor and her response, though understandable, made me regret admitting to her my main fear of going the surgery-route was that i'd lose control of both my legs, and end up unable to enjoy my sunset lake walks, cuz that led her to have the surgeon start me off at a super low Baclofen dose.🥺 So, she's gonna try and get me in this coming week to see a doctor here in Sacramento for another adjustment, so I won't have to be miserable until 2/7, when I see her next. Since each adjustment's gotta be in no more than 10% increments, it's gonna be a longer process to get to the right dose than I thought...🙏🏼🥴🙏🏼 I know I ask this a lot, but please pray ya sista up!!! #januarywhole30 Day 23 & 24: Here's my W30 progress post for the last 2 days. As predicted, Day 23 (yesterday) was long, stormy, jam-packed, and spastically intense, but check my previous post for the deets...as for Day 24 (today), it's been just as spastic, but thankfully not AS painful. My stomach's been acting-up, so i've been sippin on broth mostly. My chef-sis came to visit and helped meal-prep for me cuz she asked how she could help me, and I admitted how weak & achy i've been. So much so, that the other day my lower back hurt so bad just by standing to prep/chop that I stopped and had to ask my mom to cook it!!!🤦🏻♀️ I highly dislike needing such help - becoming disabled as an adult, after having been independent for so long, makes me that way sometimes.🥴 But since she asked, I put my pride aside, she obliged and hooked her baby-sista up!!! As expected, yesterday was a long, stormy, jam-packed day...but overall a positive, hope-instilling one!!!😊 My favorite kind!!!🤗 Got my stitches out at my first appointment of the morning😬, then went to Benicia to meet my grand-dog & hang w/ my peeps for a bit🥰, then to Kaiser Vallejo where Dr. Frantz felt for herself how much more intense my spasticity got since last week's visit, and upped the titration dose by 11%!!! ‼️Even though her usual adjustment limit is no more than 10% (up or down) per visit🥳🥳🥳‼️ (I'm so special.🤪) AND she said if i'm ever in need of an emergency adjustment between appointments but can't make it out to Vallejo, to let her know and she'll do her best to find someone in Sacramento to see me and give him/her access to my "MF" info...🥳🥳🥳 (MF = Millennium Falcon😆) She also reiterated the fact that it's gonna take time to get to the right dose, which I needed to hear (again)!!!🥴 Today, the spasticity's still quite intense, but not AS painful as it's been, and i'm confident i'll survive until my next adjustment appointment on 2/7. 💪🏼😬 Salamat for all the love & prayers again, as always...please keep em coming!!!🥰 #postsurgeryprobs #strokesurvivor #spasticity #hemiplegia #hemiparesis #braininjuryawareness #barometricpressure #weatherprobs #severespasticity #ITBtherapy #intrathecalbaclofenpump
After messaging back and forth with my doc about Sunday's scare, i'm confident that the weather has a lot to do with the spike of spasticity; she also reminded me that my pump is still at a "low dose," and that getting to the right dose is a process that'll take some time, which helped me to realize that somewhere along the lines I forgot that important fact and I started questioning my decision to have the surgery when it wasn't providing anticipated relief right away without complications.🥴 Why must I stress myself out like that?!?🤦🏻♀️ I have my surgical post-op appointment tomorrow here in Sac then i'll be meeting with her for a quick visit in Vallejo, followed by a visit with my eldest & my grandson when i'm finally gonna meet my grand-dog, Mana...it'll be a long, stormy day ahead, but I can't wait!!!🙏🏼☺️🙏🏼 (As mentioned in my previous Whole30 post): All day, yesterday & today, all i've wanted to do is sleep with my heating pad under my lower back...and i'm actually able to - despite uncomfortable spasticity, which is oddly different cuz spasticity's usually the reason I can't fall and stay asleep...but the nice change is appreciated.☺️ My whole body just feels weird...like it's not my own, but I can't find "return to sender" instructions anywhere!!!🥴🤷🏻♀️🤯 Good night, sweet dreams, y'all!!!🥱🙏🏼😴 #postsurgeryprobs #strokesurvivor #spasticity #hemiplegia #hemiparesis #braininjuryawareness #barometricpressure #weatherprobs #severespasticity #ITBtherapy #intrathecalbaclofenpump

I had a scare that warranted a "stroke alert" today, but thank God it was just a scare!!! NOT another stroke...apparently my body just didn't like being weaned off the oral Baclofen and went into withdrawal!!! (Even with my newly implanted pump: "A baclofen pump delivers the Lioresal® Intrathecal [baclofen injection] directly to the fluid flowing around the spine.) So i'm back on the oral stuff until I meet with my doc and she instructs me otherwise. 🙏🏼🥴🙏🏼 Which I'm praying'll be soon cuz being a human barometer with intense spasticity is PAINful!!!😳 ...and I miss my sunset lake walks!!!😉 The emergency room is def not fun for a person with severe spasticity AND sensory overload issues!!! The treating doc & nurse felt so bad that they let me put my jacket over the gown and leave!!! I'll be recovering from all the simultaneous competing sounds, bright lights, and cold air for a while...🤯 I was so blessed to have my sister be able to stay by my side and be my voice through it all - well except during the CT scan, of course.🤪 On another note, my brother-in-law made me an amazing W30 compliant meal when I got home (which I practically inhaled without taking a picture.🤪) AND, I learned something W30-related...the verdict is in on the frozen cubes of mango (suggested by @Vanessa - Whole30 HQ on one of my cohort threads where I mentioned how dried mango is my kryptonite🥴) - my tastebuds LOVE them but the painfully itchy bumps on my tongue say my body does not. 😩 I sooooooo wish it weren't so... 🥺 #oralallergysyndrome #oasSUCKS Cheers to a "successful" W30-Day 20, y'all!!! #januarywhole30 Day 19: At first, I was kinda bummed that it was raining, cuz I had just developed my first walk-streak (of exactly 3 days😉) again, but then I realized how sore & achy i've been getting, cuz i'm not used to my "new legs" yet, so then I got a little grateful for rain!!!🤪 But spasticity intensity's controlled by the weather - i'm basically a Human Barometer!!!🙃 Changes in barometric/atmospheric pressure seem to really affect pain levels for many, especially rapid changes, so I started to feel the intense pain from my spasticity again - not AS bad as it got pre-surgery with weather changes though, so i'm definitely glad I was able to get it!!! I am trying to keep a migraine at bay while helping someone live the life I used to live. But can’t live now because I don’t have help. I have gone from having help to being the help because I had the audacity to get divorced. Which was punished brutally with years of legal and financial abuse. Which set me back years in meeting several of my goals. And leaves me helping someone else live a life I can no longer afford to live. Which gives me pretty profound insights on my former life. And why I no longer deserve it according to the society I live in. Listening to news about Gaza while seeing caste at work every day in front of my eyes is perhaps connected to the return of migraines. Although frequent contact with my ex is also not helping. Imbalance gives me migraines. I get migraines when opposing energy fronts slam into each other. As when storms approach. But I also am more prone toward migraines when I see injustice in front of my eyes in several directions. It makes my heart hurt. It makes my head hurt. It makes my soul hurt. It is wrong. I have had a very hard time seeing things so clearly wrong continuing and worsening despite being so clearly wrong. As a child, I could not comprehend all the wrong around me. Connected to the onset of migraines when I was nine. Divorcing my husband and quitting my job gave me a miraculous reprieve from migraines for several years. Now I find myself having to work hard to keep them at bay again. Migraines are a symptom of trauma. In an attempt to be proactive - seeing that rain was in the forecast for soon after I expected to finish my walk AND with the likelihood that the forecasted time could be "off" and the rain could come sooner - I wore my "light" raincoat. In the winter months, there tends to be more fluctuations of weather and storm systems coming through... Feeling this with chronic pain like CRPS? 🙋♀️ When I was younger, I thought older people saying they could feel storms coming was BS lol but now I know better...my sweet Hungarian grandma wasn't kidding. 😂😭 But why do pain and certain symptoms increase when there's storms or more sudden weather changes? ➡️ Barometric pressure. The truth is we don't really know why it happens, we just know that it does. When air pressure decreases due to a hurricane or other storm, the pressure outside your body is also decreased, which causes expansion and contraction of tendons, muscles, and bones, resulting in additional joint pain. At least that is the main theory. ▶️ Those changes in barometric pressure may make your tendons, muscles, and any scar tissue expand and contract, and that can create pain in joints affected by arthritis, disease etc. 🌡️Low temperatures can also make the fluid inside joints thicker, so they feel stiffer. Some things that can help? 👇 ◾Compression ◾Elevating swollen limbs ◾Heat or gentle icing/cooling ◾Movement that feels good ◾Release techniques or massage ◾Slow tempo diaphragmatic breathing ◾Appropriate distraction strategies ◾Mindfulness/meditation to relax 🧰 These are all tools. Like medications. And when your limb is extra swollen, ridiculously stiff and incredibly sensitized, you have to use more of them. I walked BOTH lakes, for the second day in a row!!!🙌🏼☺️ I was pleasantly surprised that today's stats were the opposite of yesterday's though - cuz today, I started off "ok," but finished strong!!!💪🏼😊 Today's average pace per mile during the last 3rd of the session was WAY better than yesterday's: 12/4 - 50:23🥴 12/5 - 40:36🥳 I started listening to "It Starts With Food," by Dallas Hartwig & Melissa Hartwig Urban. I got through chapter 4, and am SUPER excited to get back on track with Whole 30!!! Listening again reminded me of how great I felt back in 2017'ish-2019 when W30 first changed my life, before I moved outta state for a bit... A month from today, on 1/5/24, i'm scheduled for surgery...dare I say, 2024's gonna be "MY YEAR!!!"🥳🥳🥳
Today's walk started off peculiarly well...like, I frfr felt like I was jogging!!!☺️ As I was heading home, I got a phone call from Kaiser that I let go to voicemail cuz I was breathing too hard to converse (it's enough of a challenge for me to hold a conversation when i'm sitting at home with minimal distractions, let alone while outdoors with so much going on around me🥴)...but I quickly thought about how I'd be sooooo mad at myself if she called to offer me a last-minute surgery time that opened-up, AND I knew their office would be closed by the time I got home from my walk, and I didn't wanna risk missing out so I called right back - huffing & puffing outta breath and errythang!!!🤪 I apologized for not answering and explained why, but right away she said she had a surgery date to offer me... JANUARY 5th!!!🥳🥳🥳 I immediately texted my my kiddos on our thread, and my sistas on our sista-thread, cuz it was too good of news not to share with my biggest prayer-warriors right away!!!🥳🥳🥳 As I was continuing back home, still feeling "brand new" and kinda beastmode'ish I decided to brave the second lake too...which I haven't been able to in months!!! By the time I got halfway around the lake though the leg/hip/toes of my RLL caught up with all the excitement and started wiggin-out!!!😳🙏🏼😬 The screenshot of my stats shows how much slower my pace was during the last third of my walk was compared to the first two-thirds!!!🥴 I started to freak-out a little cuz it was getting dark fast, but I made it home safely before it got super dark. In hindsight, I woulda been fine once I remembered that I have a light on my cane!!!🤪🤦🏻♀️🤭 I'm soooooo exhausted from all the happenings of the day, then reliving it all to share just now...so GNSD, y'all!!!
