Salmon run? Yes please! 🐻🍣🐻🍣🐻 We where lucky to camp close to a river during salmon run in Alaska. In the next 24 hours we saw 12 different grizzlies (7 cubs) and 4 black bears (3cubs). Such an amazing experience to have the time to watch momma bear teach their kids how to fish. And let’s just say from a somewhat safe distance.
The colour of the ocean in Alaska is glacier blue. 💙 Too bad we can only see the extent of glaciers surrounding us on a map. Guess we have to come back.
Made it to Alaska after driving over 5000km.🤍💙 Already stunned by the landscape after crossing the boarder - even in rainy weather without properly seeing the surroundings! Found our first 5 mountain goats! 🥳 Good luck finding them on the picture!

We where told by everyone, we have to drive the golden circle. So we did. On our way from the Yukon, through BC to Alaska. 🤍 The weather has chanced, it is officially fall in the North (on August 28th). We can even see what is coming our way. I can only imagine how stunning this drive is with less clouds. Still found a neat spot to get out of the elements and enjoy some glacier views. 🏔️
Headed south in Kluane and taking in the sights along the way. Kathleen lake with a view on Kings Throne, Rock Glacier, Dezadeash lake down to Million Dollar Falls. 🏔️ After last nights grizzly bear encounter, we do not step out of the truck without bear spray. Really sad that we had to pass on kings throne hike. The forecast was bad, it was even worse in reality when we pulled up to the lake. Guess one can’t hike it all!
We scoped out a nice spot from the plane where we can pull onto the beach and prepare a well deserved late breakfast. 🥓🍳🍞 Enjoying the last bit of sunshine and our last time at Kluane Lake before headed onto the golden circle and official leave our most western point of our trip. 🏔️🤍🏔️ We where told it is amazing, let’s hope the bad weather forecast doesn’t stick. 🥴
Pictures can not even closely capture the experience… Such a unique experience flying around some of the highest mountains of North America - talking about you Mt Logan - and over seemingly endless glacier highways. 🏔️🤍🏔️✈️ Too bad we could not make the land on the glacier, as by chance the “runway” was in clouds. This for sure was one of my bumpier flights of my life, should have taken gravol. 😂🥴
When you get up at 5.30am at -2 degrees after a stormy night, it better be worth it. ✈️🏔️🤍 So far the sun is shining and little clouds. Off to the bumpy flight up to the glaciers and hopefully landing on one. 🤞🏻
One of the most spectacular and scariest camping spots at once. 🏔️🏕️🐻🔥 Bo is tucked away in man high bushes and away from the windy shoreline of the lake. Our fire is set up towards the lake and a few meters away from the bushes that we have a good sight of our surroundings (for wildlife safety). Just finishing up dinner at 8.45pm (in broad daylight that far up north), wanting to go the washroom before cleaning up camp. I walked behind the car and turned onto the tiny trail that lead us to our spot, when I noticed a dark spot in the side of my eye. A grizzly head was popped out of the bushes, eating and staring at me from under 5 meters. I made myself noticeable, called for backup while slowly moving back towards camp. Of course the bear spray was where we where having dinner. Luckily the bear was not phased by my surprise visit, bear sprays open and securely watching him pass by camp while hunkering down in the car. Overall the best encounter one could have. We had all our cooking gear and leftover food out and open. In a slit second decided to let it be and get us to safety. He was not at all interested in the food or us. That was a crazy adrenaline rush and a took a bit to fall asleep that night. 😂 We went to bed before dark, goes without saying.
It looks like a desert, but this unique place is actually is part of a receding lake. The feeder stream comes from all the glaciers in and around Kluane, but does not have enough water to feed the gigantic Kluane lake. Very sad to see.

Further west on the Alaska Highway, our goal was Kluane National Park. 🏔️🤍 The weather has changed quickly and it was full on fall overnight - on August 25th. Traveling up north you should be flexible with what you would like to do, what places you want to visit. The weather changes quickly and often, the drives are usually much longer than one thinks and one can’t do it all. We are having to pass on hikes and places more frequently these days.
A busy day in town, makes one appreciate the quiet days of camping even more. Checked out all open breweries with the awesome people we met camping a few days prior, walked all through town, laundry in the making and already stocked up on food, beer, gas and ice for an early morning departure. Time to relax with the locals, listening to live music and figuring out all the furs on the wall.

A long day of driving ahead. One still has to stop for food. For us that meant: open the map, find a spot of interest, try to get there, open the cooler and pitch the stove. This was a great little detour up a very, very muddy path to a beautiful lake. Time to whip up bacon and eggs. 😊

Happy hiker when I get to explore mountain peaks. 🏔 Never forget to watch out where you are stepping though. I tend to be a little clumsy on trail. Better way is to stop and enjoy the view. So many scratches on my legs from not paying attention. 😂

What a unique place build on arctic tundra. Great to explore the old wooden houses, walk the crooked wooden boardwalks and get dusty on the white gravel roads. It took us one week of driving to make it up here.
👏🏼THE👏🏼BEST👏🏼PUB👏🏼 We just wanted to find a spot to enjoy a local Yukon beverage while doing laundry in town and planing our next few days. It turned out to be a slice of heaven with antlers on the walls. The guests are as rough and sarcastic as the staff, but everyone buys everyone beers (the ones in front of us were paid by Jim)… a very welcoming experience spending the evening with the locals as everyone is curious and very chatty.
Dawson City from above. Got lucky that the early morning clouds disappeared over town and only stuck around towards Alaska. Great spot to enjoy the view.
A little change of scenery - our „downtown“ Dawson home. Nice little hotel, just a block away from the best pub in town.
Hello Dawson City. 👋🏻 Took us just over a week to get to our most northern town. Excited to check out town, we only heard the best. Finally time for a hot shower, a hotel bed after 6 nights of camping and a few loads of laundry. #yesdawson
