We woke up at 4am for this 🙃 — Before the pandemic, I was visiting Taiwan maybe once a year to see family, so it was so so nice to be back after a five year hiatus!! Since we went on the hike so early in the morning, we only ran into a handful of people, mostly people in their 60s or older. At one point we came across an elderly man. He looked at me and Alan and said 「年輕人，要去哪裡」which translates to, “young person, where are you headed.” In that moment I was reminded of how warm Taiwanese people are and how much I loved that about my motherland. Alishan National Park! We visited at the end of cherry blossom season - there were still quite a few 🌸 🌸 in bloom but I was glad we missed the crowds of the main event. This park is very accessible, with well-maintained boardwalk-style paths and good signage - but it is still a HIKE navigating the many ups and downs that can be quite steep. Photos don’t do the pitch of these staircases justice. The ancient red cypress trees are truly awesome, and even though there were plenty of people around, it was easy to capture moments of solitude. Just remember to let the tour groups pass you by. There is even a surprisingly decent and not-terribly-overpriced hawker center by the Shouzhen Temple. I admit that I had hoped the mountain mist would cooperate so I could get one of those glam shots of the woods enveloped by clouds, but our mist was fickle and only started appearing as our day came to a close. Still a wonderful experience!

Must Visit Landmark in Taipei 🇹🇼 Swipe to see more! For the tourists, The Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and the Liberty Square are a popular destinations when they visit Taipei. But for the Taiwanese this venue is a reminder of their long road to democracy. The three story hall is said to express the ‘spirit of Chinese culture’ and is built on strong foundations which symbolize “Zhong Zheng” which means righteous. Inside the memorial hall is a statue of Chiang Kai-Shek, a former president of Taiwan. On the seafront in ..... Kaohsiung, other than the extensive harbour at the city's waterfront, you can also get to see more boats by taking a ferry to the small Cijin Island where there's a small harbour hidden behind a classical Chinese gateway entrance. It is not as tidy and clean as at the city's main harbour but this is more authentic as a fisherman's port. Into the forests of Taiwan. Rather than visit the popular but busy Alishan forest reserve, we picked a quiet town nearby and got the same views but without the crowds.
