The cabins that've been enjoying their winter slumber are slowly getting woken up. They are enjoying some fresh air and getting all dolled up to be enjoyed by our guests once again! Some of them are proving a bit cantankerous, but there are those among us who also have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning! 😅 Given their age, I think they are due some grumbles and patience! 😉 We've been so busy around the lodge, I haven't had time to scan in the photos I've wanted to show you of the Elk Point Lodge of yesteryear. 🦌 🌊 The river, she is a risin'! If you've been to Vallecito in the past few weeks you've witnessed the lake levels (currently 133% of normal) surging with spring runoff. If you've seen the Los Pinos River, you've noticed it, too! What was once a braided channel has become almost lake-like from our view at the lodge. The hummingbirds have returned as of a few days ago and two nights ago we watched as dozens of swallows swooped above the lodge deck catching insects at sunset. I've watched osprey hover and eagles sail just feet away down the river channel. The honkers are gathering in larger numbers, as well! As the water levels surge, so does the wild life! 🦌⛺ Have you stayed in Hummingbird yet? Hummingbird, also known as Cabin #11, is among the oldest cabins on the property. This cabin is the original Sullivan family's ranch house built pe-1930s. Built on the valley floor along the Los Pinos river, in 1937 when work began on the dam, and the house (and all the other cabins) had to be moved uphill to their current location. The cabin has lived many lives over the past 100 years, first as the original family's home, then as the lodge's general store, and finally as Hummingbird cabin, our de facto "Honeymoon Suite!" Complete with hot tub (plus the largest bathroom on the property,) Hummingbird cabin is the perfect place to make new memories with a loved one. Oh the stories she could tell!
