A successful rafting trip is one where you neither fall in, nor come down with pneumonia. The first half was calm (albeit freezing! ❄️) water. That's where all the pics are from. I’m behind on all my posting by ummmm months but if I don’t put it in this journal of sorts I’ll have some blanks when I look back and even though I procrastinate I do appreciate order 😉 Florida Part 1 Jacksonville: lots of fishing right out our door. For once we rented a golf cart and the kids loved riding over to the dumpsters to take out trash 😆 Had a great stopover at a state park by Palm Beach. We’ve lucked out this trip with great travel stopovers (when we’re traveling in between places we’re going to stay longer but only need to stop a night or two). Our kids are easy to travel with but it helps to play tag with other kids or if there’s a playground close. The Keys! Gorgeous weather, sometimes extra warm, and a beautiful campground. We’ll be back to Sugarloaf KOA with baby oil for the no seeums! 🦟 Iguana sitings, street performers at Mallory Square, key lime. The highlight was getting to see my friend from Hoboken who just happened to be visiting Key West when we were there. We got to help feed the elephants, walk around the grounds, learn about the different elephants, their dynamics, and their relationship with their mahout. The first national park that I visited outside of Cuyahoga Valley in my adult life was Mount Rainier in 2015 with one of my best friends. We did that entire trip on a major budget, so we only got one day in the park as we had paid for a tour bus from Seattle that took us there for the day. Someday I hope to get back there so I can spend more time in the park, but since then I’ve been lucky enough to visit 15 national parks with the hopes of continuing to see more each year. My adventures sure do look a lot different than that first trip in 2015 😆 but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love taking our kids to these beautiful, unique places. We’ve had so much fun going to the visitor centers and grabbing a junior ranger packet so they can earn their badges. It’s been a great way to learn about each park and encourage them along the trails as we go. Yesterday I drove the girls down to Bristol on my longest drive with them both 😅 Maia found long drives absolutely fine but Amara never liked the car, no matter what we did to make her comfortable. For the first year and a half, I got D to drive us everywhere so I could sit in the back with her. She’d still scream but I could at least try to distract her. Then COVID happened and we stayed home for so long that she started to get used to the car as she’d forgotten her earlier aversion! Despite having driven all over the country on my own for years, after the break from driving, I started getting nervous about driving long distances with both of them. We planned a road trip in Cornwall and D ended up having to go to his head office in Buckinghamshire this week, meaning we had to pick him up along the way. The drive was a walk in the park and we got there before we even realised. Music kept us entertained all the way. It’s crazy how much things feel harder to do the longer you leave them but when you do them, they feel so easy.
