DESIGN & TOWN PLANNING: Heysen Gallery, Hahndorf, South Australia We’re excited to announce that the new Heysen Gallery project has achieved Planning Consent which will house and protect the artistic works of Hans and Nora Heysen. Reflecting on previous versions of the project, the design has evolved to balance the operational needs of a modern gallery whilst responding to the current financial realities of the construction environment. Senior designer Scott Robinson said “The gallery will foster an immersive exploration of both the artistic oeuvre of Hans and Nora Heysen, and the unique scenic beauty of The Cedars. Derived from the natural environment, the earthy tones and rich timber elements of the design mirror the majestic gum trees that served as a prominent feature in Hans Heysen’s work. INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN: As long time Hahndorf locals, we are invested in the growing need to find a practical solution for improved parking for our township. In 2020 we explored the potential for a designated Verdun Park ‘N’ Ride and Public Use Building on what is currently vacant land between Australian Lions Hearing Dogs and Grunthal Brew. Our concept incorporated a total of 203 carparks - including 8 accessible parks - and ensured improved commuter safety by locating the bus terminal well away from busy Mt Barker Road. Our design team integrated the support needs of senior residents with contemporary street appeal in this group of four independent living units. While the units sit harmoniously on the same site, each unit is designed with its own unique details and materials. Showcasing clean finishes and earthy tones the material selections add warmth and textural appeal inside and out. Created with generous, open spaces to ensure safe movement and accessibility, raked ceilings fill the airy living spaces with natural light. Beyond Ink was involved in all stages of the project, attaining council approvals, and managing the project to a successful completion. We love the exciting diversity of projects our design team gets to create, like this striking balcony pavilion and infinity pool. Designed to maximise our clients spectacular view over the Belair foothills, this project features gently textured concrete render and a clever use of glass to ensure a calm and spacious feel, and keeps interruption of the view to a minimum. Site Visit 5/5: Next stop on the Our Beyond Ink & Beyond Ink Town Planning road trip: Murray Bridge and LUNCH! After filling our bellies and some general lunchtime shenanigans, we convoyed to the @murraybridgeracingclub to explore the work of Jason Chambers - an architect in our design team - on the new on-course stable facilities at Gifford Hill. We were impressed by his spacious and practical design and innovative incorporation of the many industry-specific requirements needed to produce such a high calibre result. And no, no-one ended up in the impressive training pool... just. We also revisited our past work on the Murray Bridge Racing Club, and it’s strong design details and finishes. Site Visit 2/5: Also right next door to The Beyond Ink & Beyond Ink Town Planning office in Hahndorf's main street are a suite of stunning new mixed use tenancies led by our Graduate of Architecture Scarlett Clarke. Despite being so close to our designs as they have emerged out of the dirt, our team was eager to at last explore the finely crafted details up close now that construction has ended. With a brief break in the weather, the spectacular spotted gum exterior and @littlehamptonbricksandpavers bricks were glowing. Site Visit 1/5: The Beyond Ink & Beyond Ink Town Planning team cut loose from the office recently, and spent the day on site tours of some of our recent projects as they come to completion. Our first stop was right next door; Hills locals have watched with us as the beautifully restored historic stone building has been carefully brought back to life and is almost ready for an exciting new adventure full of tasty treats... Dale Benlow Building Designer Dale has over 20 years’ of experience working in Architectural firms in Adelaide, Perth and Cairns. Over this time, Dale has accumulated extensive experience in documenting major projects in multi-residential, commercial, education and hospitality sectors with a particular interest in progressing a project from the conceptual design to 3D modelling and detailing. Dale enjoys working collaboratively and seeing projects materialise onsite. After enjoying extensive travel around Australia, Dale has now settled back in his home state of South Australia.
