The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna fully grown is on average 550lbs at 7 feet long. Given that those sharks are around 5 feet long, these tuna have to be in the range of 6-8 feet, upwards of 500lbs. After filming dolphins for a few hours this morning I got a text that a feeding frenzy was pushing menhaden West and I thought I would check it out before calling it a day. Cloud coverage earlier in the morning had made it nearly impossible to follow wildlife, but as soon as I launched the drone an opening broke, and shortly after, this sight unfolded in front of me. I heard tuna were around, but certainly wasn’t expecting to get so lucky. It’s rare for me to spot one bluefin let alone three feeding alongside shoals of sharks. These are some of the most beautiful and efficient fish I’ve seen, their movement is simply spectacular. Normally I hold onto footage for a day or two so I have time to fully research my subjects and perfect the editing, but on the drive home I decided without question that I had to share this as soon as possible. No se me ocurre mejor manera de empezar esta semana que con este tarantelo de atún rojo salvaje de @herpacbarbate , lata que no es la primera vez que abro ni será la última (aunque esta, como podéis apreciar, me costó abrirla) El atún rojo es uno de los bichos más deliciosos del mar, y cuando nos metemos en estos territorios de tarantelo o ventresca, cuidadin. Abrimos la lata y empieza la fiesta. Un olor delicioso y, como siempre digo, con toques cárnicos, el atún rojo podría pasar por carne al paladar del profano. En boca engaña. Porque si bien percibimos a la vista un trozo de carne compacto y prieto, la verdad es que luego se deshace fácilmente con el paladar, es mucho más jugoso que otras partes del atún o incluso que otras especies. Una maravilla exquisita que hay que probar. El sabor, de nuevo, profundo, largo y con toques de embutido. Corona con éxito una ensalada de tomate y cosas, y por supuesto, usad el aceite de la lata para aliñarla. Indica especie pero no zona de captura.
