Kings County Family Resource Centre staff supporting our nonprofit partners in the Burger 🍔 Wars Campaign for Kids staff supper @officialwalkersrestaurant & then by participating with two teams in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake event in Windsor. The Resource Centre staff had two Blossom bowling teams entered & one of which, won free bowling 🎳 & pizza 🍕 by having one of the teams fundraise the most by an individual team and by both team raising a great amount together. We have had a lot fun this past month: team building by laughing, eating 🍔 during weekly staff lunches & suppers, bowling 🎳 , helping with clean up on Earth 🌎 day, participating in Horizons Spring into Action along supporting kids, our local restaurants and our nonprofit partners for all the good reasons. My 13th Burger Wars burger is from @jonnyscookhouse : The Saucy Porker Burger AKA the Better Version of a McRib. This burger features a homemade seasoned pork patty, smothered in sweet and smoky BBQ sauce. Made with Jonny’s hand rolled, fresh baked, burger buns. Topped with lots of pickles & diced white onion. It’s a great burger, truly. Great amount of sauce, the patty was delectable. Good amount of pickles but couldn’t really taste the onions. I didn’t love the burger but it isn’t going to win as favourite for me. It’s still The Currylisious. #burgerwarsc4k #burgerbuzzchallengec4k

Burger Wars burger number 12 comes from @roofhound : The Count of Monte Cristo Burger features an egg washed bun, 5oz of D’Aubins dry aged beef, topped with provolone cheese, D’Aubins ham and drizzled with blueberry lime preserve. It reminded me of French toast. 😅 A good amount of sauce but I’d recommend not ordering takeout for it unless you don’t have to go very far as most of it leached into the wrapper. The patty was a little burnt and I didn’t get much cheese which is disappointing as I love provolone. #burgerwarsc4k #burgerbuzzchallengec4k

As you may be aware, I went on a burger crawl last weekend. Our goal was 10 burgers. We made it to 7. 😅 Here’s the list and my thoughts on the ones we tried! #1 @bistro300coffeehouse : Nach-Yo Burger Jalapeños, Fried Onions, mixed in to Nacho Cheese, bison patty with Lettuce and Tomato with cheese poured over everything. Meant to be eaten with a fork and knife. Not enough sauce considering they said we’d need a knife and fork. And it didn’t drip, more gloopy than runny. Loved the fresh green as they added a little crunch. No heat. Fries were actually better than the burger. However, they were very accommodating when we told them we were splitting it and gave us each our own plate with our portion of burger and our own fries. #2 @ciderpresscafeatwheatons : Dr. Pepper King Burger A juicy 8oz certified Angus Beef patty, smothered with the irresistible Tik Tok famous Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce! Topped with crispy fried onions, smoky bacon, zesty red onion, crunchy romaine lettuce and gooey melted mozzarella cheese. The sauce makes this very enjoyable. Without it the burger was a little dry. Loved the mozzarella and how the cheese pulled with every bite. #3 @kingsarmskentville : Pica’dilly’ Burger Beef patty, deep fried pickle chips, dill pickle ranch, Swiss cheese, bacon, tomato, relish. Good crunch from the pickle chips. Sauce was dilly but didn’t have enough and didn’t get much cheese, but good flavour overall. #4 @dickiebaxterbistro : Smoky Texas BBQ Burger House smoked Texas BBQ chopped beef, Feeney’s smoked mushroom beef patty, Ciro’s smoked Scamorza, house fermented hot sauce, Terra Tonic’s greens, Boulangerie La Vendéenne kaiser bun. Great flavour but the chopped beef wasn’t really chopped so I’d get a giant piece in a bite and couldn’t really taste anything else. The Scamorza (It’s a cheese, we Google’d it while waiting!) is divine. Super saucy too with an excellent drip factor. Although I didn’t completely enjoy this burger it was loved by some of the others with me. Ran out of room, check the comments for the rest! #burgerwarsc4k #burgerbuzzchallengec4k

Had my first @burgerwarsc4k burger yesterday! Tried @kellocks_berwick’s Grilled Halloumi Burger. It features a 6oz certified angus beef patty topped with chili honey lime aioli, marinated and grilled halloumi cheese, and a tangy fennel spiced pickled slaw on a toasted brioche bun. The halloumi was absolutely delicious but was only on half of my burger. The slaw had little flavour and needed more crunch. The aioli was so good but I needed more!!! There was minimal drip factor. Tossing the slaw in the aioli may have fixed that. And lastly, the pickle on top was yummy! A good concept overall just needs a little better execution. Mike works full-time at the constituency office Kings-Hants MP Kody Blois and in Fall 2020, was elected to Wolfville Town Council. You may remember Mike from his hosting days at the The Church Brewing Co, his guide days on the Magic Winery Bus, his barista days at T.A.N. Coffee - Wolfville or his writing days with @grapevinepublishing! Mike's true passion is Theatre! Since December 2009, Mike has been a part of 96 productions in the capacity of acting, directing, producing, marketing and stage managing. His involvement with theatre has given him the chance to work with Centrestage Theatre, Valley Ghost Walks, Edalene Theatre, Quick as a Wink, some local schools, The Fezziwig Society, where Mike excelled as the Panto Dame for 10 years, and Mike was owner and operator of the Wolfville Theatre Collective for 5 years. Mike never shies away from helping the community and thus how he ended up on the Burger Wars Team! Hal Jessome is a father of five who left the military after a 27 year career as a musician to become a house husband, stay at home dad, and complete an early education program. Hal is the artistic director of The Theatre at West Kings and occasionally dabbles in improv and stand up. Currently, Hal is working on “Anne of Green Gables”, opening 17 April. Aside from theatre and music Hal’s other passion is creating unique and savoury dishes in the outdoor kitchen he built at their cottage, where the dinner guest list might include three or sometimes 30. Prior to his career in the military Hal spent several years in the Halifax school system working with disadvantaged youth and moonlighting in restaurant kitchens where he developed his culinary skills for fine dining. “Any opportunity to help young people and eat amazing burgers is a win-win for me! Meat Team Burger Wars Daniel Duke is excited to be venturing on his own to help with Burger Wars 2024. He has grown up helping behind the scenes, and so is well familiar with the campaign. Daniel is a foodie who has been doing video food reviews for a long time, and has even competed in the Skills Canada culinary competition.
