The 309 N. Gilbert Road building dates back to 1919. The Clare Family opened their sheet metal shop on this site over 100 years ago after relocating from Clarkdale, Arizona. Located in the heart of Gilbert, AZ, the business ran for over 50 years. After retiring in 1968, the family tore the metal shop down, but their home was retained and became Bergie’s Coffee Roast House in 2009. Bergies was a unique coffee shop for the East Valley and felt like a roast house from a bygone era. Its quaint environment and friendly vibe made it a community favorite until it closed in December 2022 after the land was sold. New owners plan to build a modern building here, with Scottsdale Pizzeria Bottled Blonde occupying the space. “Bottled Blonde Gilbert will be housed inside a soaring, custom-built two-story space crowned with a retractable-rooftop patio,” according to a spokeswoman, quoted in a July 2023 Gilbert Sun News article. As of today, the building sits abandoned as it has in the past. Efforts are underway to relocate the Clare house to the Gilbert Historical Museum near by. We can only hope that the town will relocate the building or preserve it in some way as an official stop on the Heritage District’s walking tour.

Today marks two years since the residents of Clare House in Bow were told that they had 48 hours to pack up their belongings and leave their homes. 🏠 It was later revealed that Clarion Housing, which managed the flats, had known about the evacuation for ten days prior. Today, Bow’s most colourful tower block still keeps watch over Victoria Park as the flats inside gather dust. From a fire in the tower block to marriage proposals and music festivals, we heard about the memories that made Clare House a home.
