I am 30 years old & work for the Dance Company called Breakthrough Productions @zimbreakthrough in Zimbabawe. If I could change anything in the ballet industry it would be to address the lack of diversity and make it more inclusive. We are better together. I would like to see equal opportunity for everyone regardless of their skin colour. Ballet has to become more inclusive for the ballet Industry to survive. Inclusion would be to see more women and men of color in decision making positions such as principal dancers, artistic directors, choreographers and examiners. Decision makers from Black Asian and minority ethnic groups can provide an alternative view and challenge processes which could hinder Black & Asian minority ethnic groups from succeeding in the industry. I hope that I can continue to challenge people's mind set as a Shades of Ballet Ambassador. My advice for anyone wanting to do ballet is a)Dance like all eyes are only on you b) There is nothing you cannot achieve while your hair is in a bun. I am currently working towards becoming an examiner with both the RAD @royalacademyofdance and AIDT @a.i.d.t . I am hoping to become the first person of colour in the AIDT (Association of International Dance Teachers) to be an examiner. I have taken and passed the examination to be considered. I am also hoping to be an examiner for @royalacademyofdance but right now it all feels like quite a stretch I think something funny about me is most people ask me for diet tips, when all I do is literally eat all day.
