Day 3 of @evilleconofficial It was a lot of fun making my Animal Crossing Villager cosplay. I upcycled a lot of the clothes from my closet and hand cut the pattern for the flower/arm trims. Yay for dresses with pockets(plus let's face it, I was not going to rewear a plain pink dress from the Barbie movie last year so it gave breath to a new cosplay!) In the midst of that I had lost my cat Todoroki (miss you so much lil’ dude) to feline lower urinary track disease. It’s been a rough year I admit, and there were a lot of times where I honestly thought of giving up cosplaying altogether strictly due to time, money, and honestly, grief. So last Sunday I was invited by @megaconlive to take part in the Cosplay On A Budget Panel at the NEC in Birmingham, so here are some incredible pics that @cosplaywithfear took from it! 😱 I’m so incredibly honoured and proud to have taken part in this amazing panel, getting to share my love for cosplay and some tips for beginners and anyone wanting to save a bit of money alike. Cosplay is a really expensive hobby and can be so difficult to afford so as a student I’ve always been on the look out of finding ways to keep costs down so it felt right that this was a topic I could speak on. Let’s get dowel to business. For my first homemade-ish cosplay the character I have chosen needs a second set of arms. So, here is step 2 of the hand creation. The pipe cleaners gave too much bend for a finger, so I decided to make some bones. I used 5mm thick dowel and bought rods that were 30cm in length. So, they needed trimming down. You can use thinner dowel, but these seemed the best option due to strength and meaning less layering is needed to achieve finger thickness. I used a pair of secateurs and of course some gloves for safety reasons. I must say it probably isn’t the safest option as the dowel did ping in various directions… luckily no one was injured in the process. I cut various sizes to try and match to my own hand size to try and make it as boney as possible. You’ll need 14 for each hand if you’re going with the easy glove method or if you want to stay true to character and have only 3 fingers you’ll only need 11… maths! I chose to go buckwild though and cut a load. Be careful when handling though as there may be lovely splintery bits. You can these down if you want but they will end up being wrapped in more pipe cleaners and enough masking tape to go around the world 5 times, so you should remain splinter free when the craft is completed. Of the mk logo. I cut it to shape and then sealed it with plasti dip. The smaller logo I added is from a friend of mine. Made out of Eva foam. Doesn't have to be expensive. #cosplayonabudget

This is what I call cosplay on a very tight budget. Before I got my first shinobi shozoku in 2011, this is how I used to put together a ninja costume: a plain black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and the old trick of making a ninja mask out of a t-shirt. These aren't old pictures obviously, but I decided to take these just to show you how I used to put this outfit together back in the day. Tinkerbell Cosplay Cost 🌿💚 It’s Sunday so I’m sharing another cosplay cost breakdown! Tink is still one of my most affordable cosplays to date for the quality! The dress, shoes, purse and hair are all secondhand or upcycled, and I made the wings! I dumpster dove at cemeteries to find gently used and disposed flowers and leaves, and cut and hand sewed them to the dress and the shoes, and made a little purse out of leaves as well. @erinjbwhite helped me cut and style a secondhand blonde bun wig I found on a Facebook cosplay resale site, and I made the wings out of cellophane, spray adhesive, and aluminum wire! (I’ve since learned to make the frame of the wings out of steel wire - these were not very sturdy!) The dress I bought at a thrift store and cut the neckline and sleeves off of, and darted to fit. The shoes I also thrifted and hand sewed leaves onto - that was probably the most challenging part! This was my first big from scratch build and I’m very proud of her! Ok so (queso? Sorry. I’m on lunch right now) as I said I’m on a budget. I got a pair of light sabers for less than $90. Actually better than I expected. A good range of colors but limited sound fonts. Base lit but that’s cool in case i drop one in my getting used to them they will hold up better. And hell yes. I’ve dropped them several times. But they feel pretty solid. And they have a base connector to connect them for a dual ended saber. For the scabbard I used some pvc tube cut to the size of the blade and added rubber end caps. Since this pic I added some tennis racket grip tape because it’s furniture grade pvc and rather slick. I got a couple of inexpensive faux leather sword frogs and the pvc fits nicely into the and the grip tape prevents them from sliding out. I’ll put it all together this weekend and get of shot of the complete look then #cosplayonabudget #lightsabers #sithlords
