Progress pictures of my mask for The Gallifrey Cabaret. Based on the ‘Clockwork Droids’ from ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’ from Doctor Who. Made with a cardboard mask as a base, with a cable tie to alter the shape of the jaw. I used patient information leaflets for my paper mache, with PVA glue and water. I used a craft filler from @poly.props to smooth it all out. I used 2 chopsticks wrapped in a ribbon for the handle. Sunday, a day or rest? As many of you know we've been absolutely flat out over the last couple of months trying to survive the day to day of running a small business. Like many in our position it's not easy and we must do what we can to keep going. This usually means working way too much and sacrificing down time, family time and rest just to get the bills paid. What even is rest?! Although needs must, it definitely takes its toll on the old grey matter. Which means we forget things, mess things up and end up causing more stress for ourselves which isn't helpful! The last few weeks have been especially stressful for us as not only have we been trying to get things done for events and orders, but we had a few machine failures which didn't help! Worst being our CNC machine being out of action however, despite not being overly convenient, it was the opportune time to get it upgraded with new wiring, running components and our shiny new laser finally hit attached! More on that in another post. But I think we're starting to see a little clearer now. Things are back up and running so it's time to play catch up and get things done! Which brings us to today, Sunday, not a day off rest but a day of admin! Website updates galore and weeks of emails and messages to catch up with. Now I know we've said before that we're stopping work after office hours for our own sakes, but when you don't have dedicated office hands and you're behind, you've got to do what you've got to do! So thanks for bearing with us and supporting the things we do. Means the world! And to all the other makers in the same boat, DON'T GIVE UP! Open holes and exposed barrel or closed holes and accuracy to the source material? I didn’t want the barrel to look like a 2” tube glued onto the end of the gun, so I made it long. I was going to put a plate on the inside of the cowing to close the holes and cover it, like in the pic, but now I’m thinking it looks pretty badass like this. I did a full chrome silver over this, then went over the trim with a light metallic black layer. Once cured I hit the whole lot with light coat of cherry red, to still show the shades underneath and then hit it with a Matte varnish. MORNING STAR REPLICA Time to share this beauty! A good friend of mine asked if I could do a #morningstar replica for her to gift it to her boyfriend. He saw an image online and fell in love, but the full metal version was a bit too pricy. So thats where we came in! And what a fun project it was! My friend Joshi did the initial design, I added some tweeks and parts and then it was all printed in PLA. Since this is a purely #ornamental piece, thats all good. The prints were then sanded, treated with #smoothcast and sanded again, and again, before they where #spraypainted. As always, primer, multiple coats of colour and several thin layers of clear coat to make it shiny. Overall I am super pleased with the metal like look I was able to adchieve. Once that was done, both sides were fitted to a 30mm wooden dowel with a total length of 60cm. Then the amazing @ann_thisha_create did her magic and braided 24 leather straps around the handle. Not only does that look amazing its also a super soft grip. The entire piece is about 75cm tall. I also made a custom stand for it so it can be presented in style! I am absolutely in love with the final product and so is the gentleman who recieved it as a present.
