Happy Me Made May! It’s Day 1 Non-sewing friends who don’t want to see a month of mirror selfies of questionable quality, scroll on by! 🙃 If you’re new here, (many of you are!) I am Amie. I am a mother to four, wife to one, a teacher of French, and a sewist in between all the things! To the person who doesn’t make their clothing, a daily photo of the clothes one is wearing might seem like a lot, a little vain, a little “look at me!”. However for me, #MeMadeMay has actually been not only a massive inspiration as I see and celebrate other makers doing their *things*, but also a huge point of reflection. Because I spend so much time making my clothes, and I’ve made it a part of my day-to-day, it’s so helpful for me to be able to look back and see what outfits I love, which ones I wore but didn’t really feel comfortable in, which pieces I kept reaching for, etc. I want my sewing to be intentional as well as life-giving, and not just feeding the fast-fashion monster we all live alongside. I don’t want to spend time on something I don’t want to wear after, so looking at my own trends throughout the month is helpful. Anywayyyyys. Enough ramblings for today. I won’t use hashtags for the things I wear this month (unless it’s a new thing with sewing details etc) because it can kind of clog up the hashtags when I’m later looking for fit info and things like that. One of the unique touches on this apron is how both the neck ties and waistband/waist ties do double duty. They are, of course, ties to hold the apron in place, but they are also binding for the apron bib as well as the seam that attaches the bib to the skirt. The distinctive front-facing seam allowance connecting the two pieces allows for a clean finish at the back of the apron; and because the center binding is one, long strip, it creates a continuous line from end to end. Parmi les patrons que j’ai gagné chez @vanessapouzet j’ai choisi le cultissime top wanted. Il fait partie de la collection de patrons avec lequel j’avais réalisé ma robe de noël. Et comme pour la robe, je n’aurais pas été contre un peu plus d’explications au moment technique de l’encolure carrée. Heureusement, @coutureetpaillettes m’a sauvée avec sa vidéo youtube. Ça ne m’a pas empêché d’avoir un petit pli disgracieux sur l’un des angles mais je l’adore tout de même. Ce ne sera sûrement pas le dernier. J’avais acheté le tissu au salon du tissus de Rouen l’année dernière dans l’objectif de faire une combishort pour ma fille mais elle a pris une taille entre temps et je n’avais plus assez de tissu. 🌸Har fått tak i et nytt mønster!🌸 Dukket ned i Businkamanias mønsterarkiv og prøvde ut en truse med blonder! 💕 Mønsteret kommer uten instruksjoner, men heldigvis har Businkamina på YouTube en fantastisk fargetilpasset instruksjonsvideo som gjør hele prosessen til en lek! 😍 En liten utfordring var å sy sammen trusen i sidene, men designeren kom til unnsetning med noen uvurderlige tips! 💡 Bruke en lighter til å smelte trådene sammen istedenfor å sy dem fast var genialt, og å smelte sidene sammen forhindrer at stoffene glir lett. 👏 🌸 New pattern alert! 🌸 Diving into Businkamania's pattern archive and trying out their lacy panties! 💕 The pattern comes without instructions, but luckily Businkamia on YouTube has a fantastic color-matched instructional video that makes the whole process a breeze! 😍 A small challenge was sewing the lace and lycra oin the side seam, but the designer came to the rescue with some invaluable tips! 💡 Using a lighter to melt the threads together instead of sewing them was ingenious, and melting the sides together prevents fabrics from slipping easily. All in all, a lovely experience! 🐦Cushion Covers 🐦 First post in months, and I've got lots to catch you up on! This was a project I sewed over December and January. The cushion covers were for my husband's aunt who had bought this amazing William Morris-a-like fabric from the car boot sale for just a few pounds. The fabric is a lovely thick, canvas cotton type fabric, with all the lovely birds and plants on it you see. It was mostly scraps but enough to get 3 full squares plus one pattern matched square (sooo pleased with my pattern matching skill on this occasion!), and then 8 smaller squares which we decided to patchwork with a co ordinating fabric. The covers all have 1 plain side and patchwork on the back. For the patchwork contrast we tried matching a green and an orange with the main fabric as there are elements of both in the pattern. It's funny because in my house I thought the green was by far the best match, but when we tried it in her living room the orange was the clear winner. In keeping with the frugle vibe, the orange is a really superb quality second hand silk curtain. I found a tutorial on YouTube for the best way to install a cushion cover zip and was honestly so smug with how well they went in! Annoyingly I didn't bookmark the video but I'll be finding it again because I've got some of my own cushion covers to sew soon. Such a fun project away from sewing clothes, and using a really pretty fabric so really enjoyable in all.
