As we know some games like Chess, like Rubik's Cube are just for smart people who shows passion in solving problems and matters from the young ages. It will mainly be members of the government, of the court, of the military and of the parliament This is the point of tomorrow's events: Queen Margrethe abdicates in a special council of state, where Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian are present. Frederik thusly becomes "HM King Frederik X. of Denmark" and his wife Mary (who won't take part in the state council) will become "HM Queen Mary". Prince Christian becomes Crown Prince of Denmark and first-in-line to the throne. What will Crown Princess Mary wear on Sunday, when she becomes Queen of Denmark, following the abdication of her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe? In the run-up to the big day, this is one of the most frequently asked questions. There are two possibilities of how her outfit might look: For the first possibility, we take history as a guide. Queen Margrethe wore a floor-length gown and the order of the elephant. (and a veil, as she was mourning) When the parents of Queen Margrethe Queen Ingrid and King Frederik IX. ascended the throne, The King was in uniform and Queen Ingrid also in a floor-length gown and orders. (Pic 3) Meaning they all dressed similar to how Mary and Frederik always dress for the New Year's receptions at Christiansborg. For that, the dress-code is uniforms, orders, floor-length gowns, but no tiaras. (Pic 2) It could be that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary appear in a similar attire when they ascend the throne on Sunday. Another option would be a short white or beige dress with a matching coat for Crown Princess Mary. As the events are held rather lowkey, it isn't too unlikely. With that, Mary would also follow the examples of Queen Maxima of the Netherlands in 2013 (pic 5), Queen Mathilde of the Belgians in 2013 (pic 6) and Queen Letizia of Spain in 2014 (pic 7) who all wore white or beige ensembles for the accession of their respective husbands. Also the renowned dress designer Jesper Høvring (@jesperhovring) who has created many gala outfits for Crown Princess Mary before, considers such an outfit as likely. To Billed Bladet, he says about the dress-code for Sunday: "I don't know anything, but it's a balcony stage. It's not a gala, it's not a banquet, so I'm thinking something short and a coat." As he works a lot with Crown Princess Mary, her other stylists and designers, he knows the future Queen's dressing habits quite well! Black-tie dinner for the accession of soon-to-be King Frederik X. and Queen Mary? There is a chance! A question that has often popped up within the last days and weeks is whether the accession of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will be marked with a gala banquet. As the Danish royals host galas for many occassions, it's obvious that people think that a gala banquet could take place for the accession. But this will not be the case and no official gala banquet will be held to mark the accession. However, it could be that we will still get to see some gowns and maybe even jewellery this weekend... The events for the accession of the new King Couple were very much modelled on the accessions of previous Danish monarchs in the past two centuries. Back then, they were always in mourning, which is why never anything grand took place. Only a state council and a proclamation. And (sadly) hardly any new events/traditions were added for the accession of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. (except the abdication of Queen Margrethe obviously). However, there could be a black tie dinner in the evening, like they did it at Queen Margrethe's Golden Jubilee excactly two years ago. Back then, this wasn't announced, as it was a private occassion. But they still released footage of the dinner and a group portrait afterwards. Only the immediate family (The Crown Prince Family, Prince Joachim's family and Princess Benedikte) was invited. And there is a slight chance that this will happen on Sunday as well! In the pictures you see the black-tie dinner hosted by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary on January 14th 2022, the day of Queen Margrethe's Golden Jubilee. #new jewellery for Crown Princess Mary, as she becomes Queen of Denmark! When Crown Princess Mary becomes Queen of Denmark next week, she will have four large new-to-her sets of jewellery at her disposal that consist of pearls, diamonds, rubies and even a large emerald tiara. Only the reigning Queen or the wife of a reigning King (which Mary will become by next Sunday), is allowed to wear them. However, she must neither sell them, nor take them out of the country, as they are not personal property of the royal family, but owned by the state. These are the four sets that are known as The Crown Jewels: The Emerald Parure (picture 2-3) is a set of emeralds and brilliants that consists of a diadem, a large necklace, a brooch and earrings. Queen Margrethe just recently wore it for the state visit of King Felipe of Spain and Queen Letizia. The Pearl and Ruby Demi-Parure (picture 4-5) is a set of pearls, rubies and diamonds that consists of a necklace, a large brooch (or rather a stomacher), two small broches and earrings. Queen Margrethe has worn it two times this year - in June and October. She always paired it with her Pearl-Poire tiara. However, this tiara is not part of this jewellery set, but belongs to the Pearl-Poire suite that is part of the royal house's foundation. The Brilliant Demi-Parure (picture 6-7) is a set of brilliants consisting of necklace with seven pendants, a brooch in the form of a floral bouquet, and earrings. Queen Margrethe has worn it for the wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary and often pairs it with her floral aigrette tiara. However, also this tiara is not part of The Crown Jewels, but of the royal house's private foundation. The Rose-Cut Diamond (picture 8-9) is a set of rose-cut diamonds with a belt and and a brooch that can be divided into 4 smaller brooches, and two necklaces. Queen Margrethe has announced to hand over the throne to her eldest son Crown Prince Frederik on 14th of January 2024. What follows is the official programme for this historic day: 14.00: Queen Margrethe II. will abdicate in a special meeting of the state council at Christiansborg Palace by signing a declaration of abdication. Crown Prince Frederik automatically becomes HM King Frederik X. of Denmark. His wife Crown Princess Mary, who will be present too, becomes HM Queen Mary and together they will be known as "Their Majesties, The King and Queen of Denmark". As King Couple, they will take over all the duties of a Danish monarch, according to the constitution. Queen Margrethe will from then on simply be known as "Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe". However, she will neither be the regent, nor the sovereign of Denmark anymore. Prince Christian, who has just been made a member of the state council (pictures 2 and 3), will be there as well and becomes "HRH Crown Prince Christian of Denmark". 15.00: After that state council at Christiansborg Palace, the new King and Queen will be officially proclaimed by the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen (@mette, picture 5) on the balcony of the Palace (picture 4). This will be the only time of their reign, that the King Couple will stand on that balcony. 17.00: To conclude the day, the royal flag will be raised on the roof of the Frederik VIII's Palae. This is one of the four Palais of Amalienborg Palace and it's the official residence of Mary and Frederik (picture 6). With these events, Mary and Frederik will officially be the new King Couple. Prince Christian will become "HRH, The Crown Prince of Denmark" and be known as "HRH Crown Prince Christian", when his father Frederik, the current Crown Prince, ascends the Danish throne next week and becomes King Frederik X. The title "Crown Prince" or "Crown Princess" is officially used in only three European monarchies and always given to the heir apparent and first-in-line to the throne. (Read about the difference between an heir apparent and an heir presumptive in the comment section!) In Europe, it is only the Scandinavian monarchies who use this title: Apart from Denmark, Sweden has Crown Princess Victoria, who is the heir apparent to the Swedish throne and Norway has Crown Prince Haakon who is heir apparent to the Norwegian throne. Haakon's wife is known as Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Just like Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, she has the courtesy title of a Crown Princess, but is not an heir to the throne. However, Victoria's husband Prince Daniel of Sweden cannot call himself a Crown Prince, as a Crown Prince is always considered to stand above a Crown Princess. And obviously his wife holds a higher rank than him as heir apparent. (It is the same rule that also applied to Queen Elizabeth II. and Prince Philip) In other European monarchies, the title of an heir appparent is bound to a territory. What follows is a list of the current titles of the heir apparents in the order of the pictures: Belgium: Princess Elisabeth, The Duchess of Brabant Netherlands: Princess Catharina-Amalia, The Princess of Orange Spain: (Infanta) Leonore, The Princess of Asturias UK: Prince William, The Prince of Wales Most of these territory titles also have subsequent titles, but I will not elaborate on that now. In Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Monaco, the title of the heir apparent isn't connected to a territory. Instead, they use the term "Hereditary". Luxembourg has Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Liechtenstein has Hereditary Prince Alois and Monaco has Hereditary Prince Jaques.
Frederik might have to wait until Jan. 14 to accede to the throne, but he has been wearing the Crown for quite some time. The Crown Prince of Denmark wears the 50th anniversary Rolex Submariner distinguished by its green bezel (hence ref. 16610LV for “lunette verte”; swipe all the way to see an example from the most desirable “Y-serial” range with the “flat four” on the bezel). What I always appreciate with Rolex about such special details is how subtle they are for the most part. As you can see in the photos, the green bezel is barely perceptible in its difference from the standard black in most instances. . . But it’s there!

#news Crown Princess Mary shining in her rubies alongside Crown Prince Frederik at a historic gala banquet, that marks the last New Year's gala hosted by Queen Margrethe! Last night, on January 1st 2024, Queen Margrethe hosted the annual New Year's Gala at Amalienborg Palace. The invitees were members of the official Denmark, such as prime minister Mette Frederiksen, members of the court and of course members of the royal family. These included The Crown Prince's Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, as well as Princess Benedikte. Crown Princess Mary opted for her iconic ruby tiara and a red velvet gown by @birgithallstein. It is the 7th time that The Crown Princess has worn this exact same look and the 5th time that she has worn it for the New Year's Gala. Even though she's becoming Queen of Denmark next week, she for sure already holds the title "Queen of Receycling", which only underlines her sustainability efforts. What's so special about this particular banquet is the fact that the order of the elephant, Denmark's highest ranked order, is worn on the collar and not as usual on the blue badge. This is only the case for New Year's day and for a monarch's jubilee. During the next few days, three other receptions will follow to mark the new year. The Danish royal house has always celebrated the new year in such a lavish way. However, this time the eyes of the world were particularly on Denmark, as it was the first public appearance of the royals since Queen Margrethe had announced her abdication in her New Year's speech the night before. What follows is the bespoke excerpt of the new year's speech: "In two weeks time I have been Queen of Denmark for 52 years. Such an amount will leave its mark on anybody – also on me! The time takes its toll, and the number of “ailments” increases. One cannot undertake as much as one managed in the past. In February this year I underwent extensive back surgery. Everything went well, thanks to the competent health personnel, who took care of me. Inevitably, the operation gave cause to thoughts about the future – whether now would be an appropriate time to pass on the responsibility to the next generation. I have decided that now is the right time. On 14th January, 2024 – 52 years after I succeeded my beloved father – I will step down as Queen of Denmark. I will hand over the throne to my son Crown Prince Frederik. Tonight, I first and foremost would like to express my thanks. Thank you for the overwhelming warmth and support which I have received during all these years. Crown Princess Mary's glittering Jenny Packham gown, also owned by Catherine, Princess of Wales As the New Year's banquet, hosted by Queen Margrethe for the Danish royal family and Danish officials, takes place tomorrow, Danish royal ladies will have another opportunity to wear gowns, tiaras and orders. Therefore let's draw attention the the @jennypackham dress, that Crown Princess Mary was wearing in portraits, released by @financialtimes in connection with her 50th birthday in 2022. This was the only time that this dress has been seen on The Crown Princess until this day, almost two years later. However, in the meantime, another future Queen Consort has amazed in this gown: Catherine, Princess of Wales. She has worn it two times: First in June 2023 for the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Princess Rajwa (seen with Crown Princess Mary in the pictures!) and then, just a few weeks ago, for the diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. Some even assume that Mary has offered this dress to Catherine and that this is the reason, why she doesn't wear it anymore. However, nothing has been confirmed and The Princess of Wales already owns this gown in green (seen in picture 7). Given the fact that Catherine is known for purchasing the same clothes multiple times in diffrent colours, but not really known for rewearing her clothes, I consider it as quite likely that she has newly bought this dress. Another theory would be that Catherine and Mary simply swapped dresses, and that Mary now owns the green one. However, also in that regard, nothing has been confirmed. Crown Princess Mary participated as guest of honour in a gala reception that was hosted for Vietnam's Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân, in course of his visit to Denmark at the Copenhagen City Hall on 21st Nov. 2023 The Crown Princess opted for a red velvet dress by @beulahlondon and her diamond ruby earrings that are part of a huge parure that dates back to Empress Joséphine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. That parure consists of a tiara, a collier, a brooch, earrings, a bracelet and a ring that was added by Crown Princess Mary. These diamond and ruby jewels made their way from France to Sweden and were given to Princess Lovisa of Sweden for her wedding to the Danish Crown Prince in 1869. Since then it had been passed down through the Danish royal family until it ended up with Queen Ingrid, mother of Queen Margrethe. When Queen Ingrid died in 2000, she left the parure to Crown Prince Frederik, so his future wife could wear it. And only three years later, Mary Donaldson married into the royal family, became Crown Princess of Denmark and made this parure her own. In 2009, an extensive alertation process started in which, among many other changes, @dulongfinejewelry made the earrings much more versatile, so they could be worn in 5 diffrent versions: with a big pendant, a small pendant, white pearls, taihati coloured pearls and with no pendant at all - just as she did earlier this week! #news King Felipe of Spain and Queen Letizia signing a window panel at Queen Margrethe's weekend residence, as their state visit to Denmark comes to an end. When the Spanish King Couple payed a state visit to Denmark from 6th to 8th November 23, Felipe and Letizia stayed at Fredensborg Palace, like most foreign heads of state do on such occassions. It has been a tradition for centuries that guests at Fredensborg Palace sign a window panel, when they bid farewell after their first stay. So did King Philippe of the Belgians and Queen Mathilde in 2017, as well as King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Queen Maxima in 2015, after their respective state visits. They also always sign a seperate "normal" guest book. Many other historically significant figures, such as Tsar Alexander III or US president Bill Clinton have immortalised themselves in the windows of Fredensborg Palace. Fredensborg Palace is located just outside Copenhagen and Queen Margrethe takes up residence there in spring, autumn and on several weekends in winter. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary used to live there with their two eldest children Prince Christian and Princess Isabella from 2004 until they moved to Amalienborg Palace in the city of Copenhagen in 2010. Nowerdays, they also use it as a weekend residence and it was there, where they retired during lockdown. Apart from that it often used to host foreign guests and big family gatherings, such as in 2014, when all descendants of King Frederik and Queen Ingrid came together to celebrate christmas. The F obviously stands for Frederik and The Crown Princess hardly ever takes it off. Queen Margrethe of Denmark once famously said about her jewels that the royal family measures their them by centuries rather than by carats. This says it all. What made Queen Margrethe's appearance on Monday so unique was also the respectful gesture of wearing the Golden Fleece on the collar. This order is only awarded to reigning monarchs, which means that Queen Margrethe is the only Queen and only woman besides Leonore, Princess of Asturias and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, to be able to wear it. This order is hardly ever worn on the collar, but usually on a small red loop. Wearing it on the collar is understood as a deeply respectful gesture. Queen Letizia stunned in her most precious tiara: The Fleur-De-Lies Diadem, which is also only allowed to be worn by Spanish Queens. While rumors have been circulating since February, this has now been confirmed by @detdanskekongehus. It is saud that the visit was originally planned for April 2023, but postponed due to Queen Margrethe's back surgery in February. The detailed programme is yet to be announced. However, such state visit always include a state banquet and I can confirm that Christiansborg Palace will be closed to the public during the time of this state visit. Christiansborg Palace is usually the Palace where state banquets for foreign heads of state, especially for foreign monarchs are held. The last state visit by a Spanish monarch to Denmark was in 1980, by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. The last time that King Felipe and Queen Letizia officially visited Denmark was in 2015 for the 75th birthday celebrations of Queen Margrethe. (1st picture) Even though it is not often that Spanish and Danish royals meet on official occasions, these two royal families share a lot. However, as the King has troubles walking, he and The Queen are always driven to the spot as near as possible.
