Yesterday was incredible, and also really tough! We walked a huge 17 miles from Old Trafford to Boltons toughsheet stadium for an amazing charity (@prostatecanceruk ) and it was such a fun day! The weather stayed dry, everyone was in good spirits and up until around half way I was feeling amazing 🫣😂 Then the blisters appeared and I struggled with the pain (right underneath my foot) but I pushed through, we made it and in an amazing time too! To commemorate the birthdays of our founder, Bl. Frédéric Ozanam (4/23/1813) and our patron, St. Vincent de Paul (4/24/1581), the Society in the United States celebrates the last Sunday of April as Ozanam Sunday. In 1833, Frédéric Ozanam and his classmates were asked: ‘What can seven young men hope to achieve in alleviating the suffering in Paris?’. Frédéric ignored the comments, determined to do what he could to bear witness to his Christian upbringing by helping those less fortunate in the community. The group adopted the name the Society of St Vincent de Paul, after the Patron Saint of Christian charity. They were introduced to people they could assist and met weekly to strengthen their friendship and respond to the needs of those they served; these practices still continue today. As others noticed the charitable works of the students, the Society grew in membership and expanded across the city and eventually throughout Europe and the world.
