As you can tell it’s maintenance day today,(actually was due 2 days ago). I’m using a different brand of soil to normal and it’s been leaching a lot of brown colouration into the water and the plant growth is very slow compared to my normal soil. Overall I’m not sure how I feel about this aquascape. Visually I like the colour of the soil, hardscape and planting but I’m not happy with the plant growth and health. Everything looks nutrient deficient, the growth is very slow and I keep getting dust algae. I was expecting to have a complete carpet by the second week of December. ‘Shrimp safe’ is a term that is often used to describe fish often without much more in the way of what it means. To me, shrimp safe are fish species that would not readily hunt adult shrimp but will opportunistically eat shrimplets to some extent. As is the case with these samurai gourami, it may look like this male is looking at those shrimps in excitement but I have never seen them be anything other than inquisitive. I have no doubt that the tiny shrimplets supplement their diet regularly, but it does not make a dent in the overall population of Neocaridina. It is very difficult to find fish that will not even eat these tiny shrimps when they get the chance. It has been almost 2 weeks since i started cycling the tank, it ia looking alright so far except the anubias petite leaves melted because i ledt them exposed dry for too long 😅, i see some sort of algae growing on the drift wood, some of of the cryptocorynes leaves has melted too but not so much of a problem since it will grow back. Crypt parva mania- bought a tiny rosette and it grew manifold after 2.5 years in the tank. This bundle never grew a carpet; it mostly sent out side shoots as the preferred propagation method.
