Each one of our members at some point of their life lived in Palestine for a period of time. We all moved to New York in hopes of a better living but we always had a strong passion for our culture especially Dabka. Forming a Dabka team was the perfect way for us to stay connected with one another, and especially to our culture. Through the years we have gained vast popularity within our community, which only encouraged our pursuit for the preservation of the culture and its exposure to the world. Our talent has been published in articles and newspapers. We have been interviewed by different news channels, including Al Jazeera, 1010 wins radio station and filmed into documentaries one being popularly, known as coming home we have traveled throughout the US and a couple of countries outside the US. Our mission is to spread our culture to the world and teach the youth that are based in the US about their culture. 🤞Nous avons répondu à l'appel à projet du Budget Participatif de la Ville d'Ottignies Louvain-la-Neuve. Notre projet, via l'ASBL Altérez Vous Initiative, s'appelle "Accords Solidaire et Saveurs du Monde" 🌎Ce projet est une initiative qui fusionne culture, environnement et solidarité. Voici les principaux éléments de ce projet : 🥙Cela se passe sur trois soirées, chaque soirée a pour thème un pays (représenté à l'Altérez Vous) Brésil, République démocratique du Congo, Liban. 🎷Chaque soirée aura son repas inspiré de la cuisine régionale (boisson, plat, dessert) et aussi un genre musical de ces pays (bossa nova, rumba, dabké) 💸Nous allons proposer pour ces soirées, une tarification solidaire : prix solidaire (au plus bas), prix normal, et prix de soutien (un peu plus cher). 🎁L'idée, c'est que les gens qui ont les moyens puissent participer aux repas des plus petites bourses. 😇Nous souhaitons créer du lien social, que les communautés des pays choisis viennent et qu'ils rencontrent du monde. Le prix solidaire doit permettre aux étudiants de profiter de ces belles soirées. 🥦Comme à notre habitude, la cuisine sera bio et de saison. Avec les matières premières "exotiques" nécessaires, nous allons choisir des produits du commerce équitable. Et pour certains produit nous allons nous fournir en circuit court et ainsi soutenir l'économie locale. 🙏Ce projet sert de test sur deux points : Est-ce que la tarification solidaire est viable, si oui, nous pourrions proposer ce type d'événement une fois par mois par exemple ? La vie d'artiste est difficile, avec cette subvention, nous pourrions tester le fait de payer les artistes à leur juste valeur et donc nous aurions une idée si nous pouvons augmenter nos cachets de manière viable. 💚En somme, Accords Solidaire & Saveurs du Monde est bien plus qu’un simple événement : c’est une opportunité de célébrer la diversité culturelle tout en agissant de manière solidaire et respectueuse de l’environnement. ARAB JOY PERFORMANCE WITH CAMBRIDGE TAKHT: We live in a cruel world that’s mad and unfair. Everyday I remind myself to be grateful that my basic needs for safety are met while so many in G a z a and across the Levant live in perpetual fear and without dignity. In the past year, music has been the main tool I channel my anxiety into actual steps towards self-realization. As a complete novice in the field, this has been facilitated by @cambridgetakht an anchor and community for the Middle Eastern diaspora in Cambridge. Not only have I learnt so much about the music of my heritage but I also found a family to come for collective well-being and relief. We had had since many concerts to fundraise for P a l e s t i n e, Syria and Turkey but this last concert in St Paul Church has been a true celebration of Arab joy. Being able to wear keffiyehs and dance dabke in a safe space is an immense privilege in today’s world where our culture is under literal attack. I want to remember and share these moments that give me hope amidst the horrendous footage that’s coming from G a z a. It’s not the best quality but that’s not the aim. Thank you @mido3000_00 for leading our musical ensemble and @joseph.ek for your insane energy leading the dabke. You will be truly missed. I sang a medley that comprised first the song “Foq el Nakhl” from the Iraqi folklore and which was made popular by Syrian singer Sabah Fakhri. It translates to “above the palm tree” and usually refers to a good and positive state of mind. The second song of the medley is called “Hadi y’a bahir hadi” and is a traditional Palestinian song in which the sea and other elements of nature are summoned to bring the singer back home, to the beloved land of Palestine. The last slide is a clip of the audience dancing to our Palestinian folk medley, led by Narjes, where we sing together the songs “Y’a Zarif al Tool” & “Wayn aa Ramallah”. #music #livemusic #band #percussion #maqam #dabke #violin #oud #tabla
