Art builds bridges and community, enhances cognitive skills and learning, it reduces our stress hormones, helps us make sense of experiences, helps us to learn about ourselves, boosts feel-good neurochemicals like dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Dance can be especially helpful for people with PTS, ADHD, Parkinsons (has shown to reduce tremors, improve gait, and facial expression that had been diminished by the disease), and so much more. And I think today is a nice reminder to not lose appreciation for this. It’s healing for people to share themselves through dance. Whatever style of dance you do, keep making space for it. 🇹🇼 2024.04.12-14 @raqstaiwanfestival Organized @alida.lin RAQS TAIWAN❤️ コンペティションにも挑戦してきました✨ プロオリエンタル部門3位入賞しました🥹🥉 . コンペ記録を..📝🙏 文章力が乏しいのですが、 ご興味ございましたら、、🥹 . プロオリエンタル部門は 第一ラウンドは自分が用意したCD音源、 第二ラウンドは11曲あるクラシカルソングから即興、 と、2回戦ありました！ 第一ラウンドはTitoとShahinが ニッコニコで見ててくれて本当に嬉しかった🥹❤️🙏 会場にいた人達も盛り上げてくれて 凄い気持ちよく踊りきりました😌 が、問題は第二ラウンドの即興😣 しかもその即興というのも題名を知らされていただけで どのパートが流れるのかとかは知らされず😭 本番まで11曲をひたすら聴き込んで 即興練習していました🫨 本番、私がクジで引いたのはHob eih やった！すごい聴き込んでたやつ当たった！と喜んでいて いざ本番 ...聴き込んでいないパートきたあ😭😭😭😭😭 Hob Eihの4番だったようです。。 ひっちゃかめっちゃかなっていなかったと思うけど 落ち着いて踊れなかったしキメられなかった🥲 とっても情け無いし悔しかった😭 プロであるならばもっと曲について勉強しなさい。 という事だと思った😭✊ そんなこんなで 第一ラウンドは審査員の皆さん、 ニコニコで見てくださっていたので 少し希望が持てたけど、 第二ラウンドは撃沈だったので 台湾や韓国の若くて未来のスターたちらが凄くて ちょっと賞獲るのは難しいかも と諦めかけていたけど なんとか3位入賞する事が出来ました😭❤️ アジアの亡者だちが集まるだろうと 挑戦するか迷っていたけど、 挑戦して本当に良かった🥹 これからもコンペに限らず色々と挑戦して 自分を高めていきたいです😊✨ . 3位の副賞に、なんと！！！ 4Mさんから衣装を頂きました😍 しかも大好きなバラディドレス😘 豪華な副賞をありがとうございました✨ @4m.bdc コンペのステージと結果発表を見守ってくださった EmikoさんAkiさんFioreさん、👨🏻🦱も ありがとうございました🙇🏻♀️😭❤️ @Emiko @aki_kono @hanae.fiore 👨🏻🦱に関しては 第一ラウンド終わったあと まるでボクシングのセコンドみたいにステージ横まで来て シミーもっと頑張らないと負けるよ気合いいれて！ って喝をくれました😂ほんとセコンドwありがとうw そして日々ご指導くださっている Nagwa先生😌 いつもありがとうございます✨ 先生に嬉しいご報告が出来て嬉しいです😚 @nagwasan #台湾 #台北 #raqstaiwan #bellydance #orientaldance #dance #ダンス #saasya #танецьживота #танецживота #ベリーダンス #肚皮舞 #bellydancer #ベリーダンサー #raqssharki #orientalisimo #orientalism #レストランショー

When I started 'bellydance' over 15 years ago, it was a feeling of coming home to my own body and discovering beauty in it, against 'heroin chic' and diet culture musings of western beauty standards I wasn't comfortable to adopt. I do intentionally not call it raqs sharqi, since most teachers learned fusion and my icons were girls from Iran, Lebanon, Egypt dancing to pop music in their living rooms rather than technique - oriented high class choreographers. It's well known the popular glitzy show dance style is more 1930s Egypt / Hollywood influence than 'traditional' (what is tradition, anyway?) and many stars of the scene were actually white women back then - but still, something changed, again. I see more and more heavily operated women performing in competition, posting AI altered costume pics, offering 'bellydance muscle toning' workshop stuff, often from countries where you won't dare to paint henna on your hands without getting stares. If I'd seen this back then, I'd probably get the impression you needed a proper boob job and lip injection to offer well made bellydance (fanservice) to dare showing yourself. And no, I'm not against plastic surgery in general, this is about a vibe in this subculture. You don't need this workout and beauty plan to dance. So, let's claim this again, with our bodies and hearts, as this is about joy and sensuality, no matter who's watching and where you are.

I thank dance for one main thing: keeping the wonder and play alive in my life. The brilliance of the human mind comes from our ability to imagine things that don’t exist. The imagination is how we create new and better ways to live. It’s how we connect with the divine. I love putting silk veils in the hands of new dancers and giving them a couple of basic moves. Then saying, “now play.” Their faces tell me so much. A few could do it “just play” and many took some time to warm up, sticking to the task of learning the “right way”. And occasionally someone would be blocked completely. The ego keeping them from trying something new and unknown. Dance is the perfect arena to shed the ego, to play with the “what if”, and to revel in it all.
