Yesterday I did my first guest speaker slot talking about ‘Rainbow Washing’ in business. At this point in the talk, I was telling these local business owners some small things they could do straight away to support our LGBTQ+ community in their every day lives. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss something I’m passionate about and I really enjoyed researching it more to ensure I was clued up for questions. One of my favourite parts however, was just going through the LGBTQIA2-S acronym to see what everyone knew and the meaning of all the terms. It’s too easy for people to say ‘LGBT blah blah blah’ and wave their hand as if to say ‘I don’t know and I don’t care’. The community whose lives these letters refer to are all as important as each other. Although I often shorten the acronym, I always add the + so that people know that I include and support everyone. Several attendees approached me afterwards to say the talk was brilliant, they’d found it really interesting and felt confident to go back and talk to clients and colleagues about it. CREATIVE INCLUSIVE ENTHUSIASTIC When working on a headshot assignment I always ask my clients for three words that sum up what they want to put across. When those words are exactly aligned with how I see the client you know the shoot is going to be great. That's exactly what happened when planning the shoot for creative and business owner Kerry King. Kerry is the creative energy behind Kerfuffle & Swish an eclectic interiors company, and Norfolk's only Pride shop Pride & Seek. To reflect Kerry's creativity and her love of nature, we decided to pair her wonderfully vibrant hair and outfit, against the soft greens of Kerry's favourite woodland walk. After a quick change, we then moved to the Pride and Seek shop in Dereham to capture images in front of the shop signage. The welcoming smile, fantastic outfits and diverse rainbow merchandise in her shop tell you that Kerry most definitely is creative, inclusive and enthusiastic. We have overcome a-lot or obstacles along our way but without the amazing team DDP has it would not of been possible. The amount of things that have to be done behind the scenes is untrue!
