7th February 2024 Got the Audi wheels some fresh @falkentyres FK510’s and fit them after work today. Main reason for going for the Falkens over my usual Continentals is because I’ve found they have more rim protection in 225/30 20 size. 28th January 2024 I’m taking the van to Campermart at Telford next week, where it will be on the VWBus “Bus of the year” display. Therefore, this weekend I made a start trying to get it to a reasonable standard ready for the show. All brakes and suspension cleaned up and touched up, winter mud flaps removed and Carbon fibre ones fit, and I’ve put my good wheels back on. Really happy with how the rear is sitting now (with the previous mods I done), I’ll go as far as saying it’s perfect fitment for me. Arch is about 2mm from the wheel rim which is perfect, as I wouldn’t want the bodywork to touch the rim, and risk paint or wheel damage. 11th January 2024 Another day, another air leak! This time it was the passenger side front leader hose bulkhead. I suspect the hose insert damaged the o-ring when removing it recently to replace the hose and elbow, and then the recent cold weather finished the job. I don’t think it’s too bad, having just shy of 3 years of year round daily use and it’s only required 2 check valves, 1 strut rebuild and a couple of fittings. 22nd December 2023 Rubbish weather at the minute so not ideal for working on the van, but today is a good day as the van is back at 100%. Got the drivers side strut removed a couple of days ago, and checked for leaks. It turned out that an O-ring in the top sandwich plate was causing the main leak (in addition to the lower sandwich plate), so replaced that (thanks to @plushautomotive for getting one to me within 24hrs). Had to drill out a number of screws that were seized/rounded off so replaced them all. 17th December 2023 Well the Rotiforms didn’t last long….. the van is now back on the old trusty Merc wheels after cracking one this week. Also been losing some air pressure on the front suspension recently, so while the wheels were off had a look at it. Passenger side was just a leaking fitting , so swapped that out. The drivers side is looking like it’s going to be a bit more expensive, as it’s leaking through the sandwich plate. 6th November 2023 Well that’s 5 years of ownership today. 😮 I’ve achieved so much more than I ever intended or expected in that time with this van. 14 awards and 5 magazine features, for something that was built with my own hands is just crazy, and all whilst continuing to use it as a daily run dog van. Really grateful for all the interest and comments I’ve received about the van, especially the support from the @caddy2k.comforum. I always think it’s hard for modern commercial vehicles to do well/standout against “normal cars” such as all the classic golfs etc out there, even though vans generally need so many more upgrades just to get them level with the stock factory cars. 26th October 2023 After changing the wheels back to 19’s I noticed that the arches weren’t meeting the tyre. After investigating at the weekend I found that the bags were in fact bottoming out (which isn’t ideal if leaving for long periods). I’ve always just presumed that my rear was as low as it would go, and that the tyres were sat on the arch liners. To resolve the issue I ordered some longer U-bolts and used 2 plates from a shackle kit that I had sat in the garage (the upper and middle plates). The result is the rear is now 15mm lower than it was. I’m interested to see how it will look with the 20’s on now as they should sit up in the arch being narrower and a better offset. Please excuse the poor photos (it was getting dark when I finished) and hideous rusty axle/suspension, it all needs re-powder coated (the joys of using it daily). I’ll run it like this for a while and see how the ride is, as I had to increase the bag pressure slightly for my usual ride height. 14th October 2023 One of my halo DRL’s stopped working a few week ago due to a faulty @profileleds LED driver. With no stock in the UK I’ve had to drive around with the van looking like a shed with a light out 😢. Thankfully I got chance to replace the driver today. 😃. Apart from roof tiles falling on them 🤦♂️, this is the first issue I’ve had with the lights since they were built by @emtuning in early 2017. Really says a lot about the build quality 👌. 21st September 2023 Well I think it’s time to engage full winter mode and take my good wheels off, the roads are absolutely covered in mulch and debris now and I can’t see them getting any better for a while. To be fair I’ve probably pushed my luck already running these daily all summer, but they have faired well with no issues. I also need to decide if I’m going to bother with any shows next year now, as there’s quite a few jobs that I’ll need to do over winter if I am. 3rd September 2023 How air ride installations should look, none of that cable tie nonsense here. 🙂 Day spent cleaning my suspension and brakes in preparation for @cleanfest_uk show next weekend. This will be the last time they are cleaned this year, and I can’t see them surviving the winter tbh, so it’s looking like I’ll have to get the callipers refurbished for next year. I also need to find a colour match for the @bilsteinuk @abpsuspension shocks so I can clean up a little surface corrosion. Whilst I had the van in bits I also test fit the “new to me” wheels that I’m going to run over winter (they do need a refurb). They are 19” three piece forged @rotiform HUR-T’s, which I done a deal with a mate for my 20” @ozracingwheels Superturismo’s. They are sided and I’ve fit opposite sides, as I wanted to see which orientation looked best. 19th August 2023 Got @cleanfest_uk show coming up in a few week and as it’s indoor I thought I’d try some lighting for in the engine bay. I made them from some LED strip lights, DC connectors and some 9V battery pack. 28th July 2023 Started trying to get the van clean and ready for Tatton Park show with the @caddy2k.comforum . Wheels off and all the brakes, suspension and wheel arches cleaned. Wheels took a bit of cleaning as the barrels and fixings were black with keeping the wheels on for daily duties, I don’t think I’ll be doing that again.
