En 2000 soit six ans après le rachat du groupe Rover par BMW, la marque bavaroise se débarrasse de celui-ci emportant avec eux le projet de la nouvelle Mini. Vendu 10£ à Phoenix Venture Holdings Rover Group devient MG Rover. La MG ZS est elle lancée en 2001, sur la base de la Rover 45 lancée elle en 1999. La ZS se veut plus sportive et grâce au passé de collaboration de Rover avec Honda (qui remonte à la série 400) qui lui offrait une suspension avant à double triangulation c'est la voiture parfaite pour devenir une MG. La 45 étant elle optimisé pour le confort MG ira à l'opposé préférant la maniabilité et la sportivité de la berline. Proposant des 4 cylindres d'1.6 et 1.8 de plus de 110ch et 120ch chacuns ainsi que des moteurs diesel sans grand intérêt sportifs. Mais la meilleure version restera la ZS 180 avec son V6 2.5 de 180ch. En 2004 la ZS fait peau neuve et se différencie déjà un peu plus de sa sœur la Rover 45. Malheureusement la version restylé verra sa carrière écourté car en avril 2005 MG Rover est officiellement en faillite. MG lui est racheté par Nanjing Automobile tandis que seul les droits de certaines automobiles Rover sont racheté par SAIC pour les fabriquer sous la marque Roewe. Cette MG ZS de 2005 est équipé d'un 2.0 diesel (Rover série L) de 113ch avec une boîte manuelle à 5 rapports. You can't park there, mate! What a pleasant surprise it was to stumble upon a little car show in Fort Langley while on a little Sunday drive for some kitchen stuff. Lots of nice English classics. It's also a nice change to mix in the 'people doing people stuff' into photography. It's hard to ignore the thought of being seen as a creeper with a camera in public, but at a car show having a camera in hand is to be expected. With the passing clouds and all the color it seemed to push my little 200d to the maximum of dynamic range in every shot, but it did better than expected. Cette voiture marquait le renouveau de la marque après la confidentielle MG RV8 elle avait pour but de remplacer l'iconique MGB dont la production a cessé à la fin de l'année 1980. La MGF aura une carrière très longue la première version sera produite à près de 80 000 exemplaires entre 1995 et 2002, son évolution la TF à plus de 40 000 exemplaires entre 2002 et 2005. Après le rachat de MG par le chinois Nanjing, le production est temporairement stoppée avant de reprendre en 2007 en Chine. La production reprendra dans l'usine de Longbridge en août 2008 avec des pièces venant de Chine avant de s'arrêter de nouveau en 2009 a cause de la crise.
