I’m a fourth year digital marketing student, born and raised here in London. I chose Fanshawe initially because I was going into Health Sciences and I had heard about all the hands-on experience I would receive in my labs and how prepared I would be for joining the workforce after graduation. Fanshawe provided me with the space and support to explore all of my interests, which is what eventually led me to changing paths and going into Business. Fanshawe offers incredible opportunities outside of the classroom too! These opportunities have supported me in building a professional network and gaining knowledge and experience in my field. I have been able to take part in the InSPIRE mentorship program, study in France as part of an international exchange, work on campus in the Student Wellness Centre and in Reputation and Brand Management and this year I'm excited to be a @Fanshawesu Director. Through a mix of theory, labs, and field work, I am gaining all the skills I need to be successful in my career. I am completing projects based on real world issues that I can then use as a part of my portfolio. These have already helped me secure two co-op placements! My profs are industry professionals who prefer a coaching approach to my learning which enables me to grow my strengths and improve upon my weaknesses while refining my techniques. Throughout the pandemic, Fanshawe and my profs have supported me in completing my studies. They have made the transition to online learning easy, and I feel that I am getting just as good of an education online as I would in class. There are also so many great ways to get involved in student life at Fanshawe. They offer a wide variety of clubs, committees, and athletic opportunities, I am currently a member of the Fanshawe Parks Club and the Eco Advisor Committee. There are also frequent student activities on campus, these include markets, pop-up shops, and holiday activities. Meet Ally, a third year dental hygiene student! "I have always known I wanted to be involved in health care, specifically health care geared towards helping vulnerable populations and underserved communities in Canada." Why does she love her program? "I love working with my clients and knowing that I can provide them with high quality oral health care while alleviating the financial burden that prevents so many individuals from seeking oral care. This would not have been made possible if it weren't for our Program Faculty. The teaching and clinic faculty have gone above and beyond to provide us with a state-of-the-art facility where we can apply evidence based decision making and client centred care to the public." Why does she love Fanshawe? "I love the sense of community that Fanshawe has and the pride it has in its students." Her advice to future Dental Hygiene students: "This program requires a very high level of commitment but it is so rewarding. Work hard, be humble and appreciate that you have the chance to change someone's life." As my profs are industry professionals, I am learning the industry standards in my field. The education and skills I have gained have allowed me to be highly competitive in the job market. I am so glad I chose Fanshawe to continue my education! Fanshawe offers so many opportunities to get involved, make friends, and build a community. As I am not originally from London, finding opportunities to get involved and meet new people was very important to me. The wide variety of clubs and organizations on campus encouraged me to get involved and meet new people, I am currently a member of the Fanshawe Parks Club and the Eco Advisory Committee. There are also frequent student activities on campus, these include markets, pop-up shops, and holiday activities. From Fitness and Health Promotion to Business Marketing and studying abroad in France. I’ve been able to take part in campus recreation, volunteering and many different events happening on campus. Getting to see my first FroshFest, to Fanshawe LIVE during the Junos. Having grown up in London, Fanshawe has always been a familiar name for me. When I was looking for a school I wanted one that would give me the most experience while preparing me for a future career. Fanshawe had it all, the opportunities to travel, gain experience in the field, volunteer, and so much more.
