Something a little different this morning! Me and @feastswithelise went for a cold water plunge in the Forest of Dean and cooked up an absolute storm! Elise is researching the benefits of cold water swimming currently so I thought it would be rude not to show her this cold water plunging well (with healing powers). With the help from @feastswithelise insane cooking skills, my hand burnt @millymoorestudio “Stompy Puffin” chopping board, our new @one.gb sustainable water bottles, and of course @trangia_sweden and @gandys making outdoor cooking as easy as it can be.. we had the best day ever! We met some other ‘cold water plungers’ and had the most wholesome interaction with them in the woods. It’s time for our #BurgerOfTheWeek! 🍔 Kubie Burger (“que-bee”) 🍔 $25 6oz kielbasa sausage from Pig & Olive, topped with housemade traditional inspired sauce, housemade fried onions, and pickles. Umami in every bite! The Kubie burger is most well known in Alberta and stims from a Ukrainian background. The name kubie is slang for kielbasa which is slang itself from the Ukrainian word "kobasa" which translates to sausage. Kielbasa is known for its rich flavours coming from garlic and marjoram and is typically mixed with veal or beef to give it more layers of flavour. During the great war Ukraine was occupied predominantly by Russia, due to the hostile landscape many wanted to seek salvation elsewhere. At this time Canada was the first western country to recognize Ukraine's independence and offered support to them, taking on many refugees. As refugees settled into their new homes, they started to share their heritage, culture, and food with us and soon after the Kubie burger became a popular item among the prairies. To this day the prairies have the largest Ukrainian population compared to any other province and over time kielbasa has spread across Canada as a popular item to snack on or have as a meal.
