If you have volunteered with us on a Saturday morning downtown, chances are you know this smiling face! Darnell has been a staple at our PB&J program for years. He first stopped by to grab a lunch and see what was going on more than 5 years ago and has since become one of our Lead Volunteers on Saturday mornings. These two amazing ladies have become staples at our PB&J program. Brittany (l) was introduced to Food for Thought when she attended a Friday night lunch making with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. Since then, Brittany has been joining us on Fridays and Saturday mornings and said she loves being downtown meeting both visitors and volunteers. “I love this community that I never would have met without the weekly PB&J distribution”, she said. Lynn (r) found Food for Thought after searching online for a volunteer opportunity. She immediately noticed the community that was already in place that was so welcoming to everyone. Lynn has become a regular on Friday nights helping pack lunches and get them downtown the next morning where she always has a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she meets. “You can see and feel the sense of community as soon as you walk up”, she said. Meet Max…an amazing and inspiring young man who embodies what giving truly means. Max reached out to me last year as he was planning to participate in an upcoming Iron Man Marathon and wanted to raise money through that event to support our mission. Since then we’ve seen Max several times at our PB&J program, helping prepare lunches for people in need and then downtown on Saturday mornings where he brought socks and gloves to be handed out along with the lunches. Max simply wants to give back and help his community.
