I know this is a bit more than fashionably late by this stage but life has been more than a little full on here at Trickswap Circus HQ! So better late than never here goes... A truly massive well done to all our have-a-goers this September... You never cease to amaze me with your badass courage and once again you did not disappoint. It is a real privilege to be a part of making that first burn happen for you and what a special place for that to be than at none other than Swordpunk surrounded by your supportive tribe! (Have to say it does rather beat an empty carpark which was my first time.) I would like to give a massive shout out to all the fire crew who made the have-a-go happen as it truly would not be the space it is without them, I was just the one yelling random rubbish waving 2 flamey swords around trying to remember everyone's name in the right order. In no particular order thankyou to my Fire Sista Brex , the Magical Merlin & the one and only (probably?) Duff for getting everything ready back stage and to the firey Graham Hearn & fabulous Ali Bird for trusting you lot by being on the blankets in the circle keeping everyone safe and unsinged. Long before they began working with Circus disciplines, these two girls studied dance, and it was during their dance careers that they met some acrobats, and became interested in aerial work. Oxymoron is a word that describes two things in strong contrast with each other, and their performance is entitled Oxymore. With this number, Duo Darkness promotes the meeting between opposites, something that these two artists think is also fundamental in real life. The hoop used by Duo Darkness is unusual, in that they combine its use with a single aerial strap, allowing them to perform further acrobatics. FROM CALISTHENICS TO HAND BALANCE: A YOUNG UKRAINIAN PERFORMER WHO BALANCES ON FOUR FINGERS Born in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, in 1994, Dima Malakhov began studying calisthenics fourteen years ago – a discipline that uses the body’s own weight to apply force to each exercise. Dima decided to enter the performance world as an acrobat several years ago, and he fell in love with the world of the Circus. The hand balance number that he is presenting at the Festival is a clear example of how a Circus act can evolve from the background of the artist: at the start he is hand balancing, but the end of the performance sees him carry his whole weight on just four fingers, and when the supporting base becomes so small, the pressure of the weight increases significantly. 🔁DAL CALISTHENICS ALLE VERTICALI: IL GIOVANE ARTISTA UCRAINO CHE SORREGGE IL PROPRIO PESO SU QUATTRO DITA. Nato nel 1994 a Kremenchuk, in Ucraina, Dima Malakhov avviò quattordici anni fa la sua formazione come atleta nel calisthenics, la disciplina che prevede che il peso corporeo sia la forza che si oppone allo sforzo richiesto da ciascun esercizio. Da alcuni anni Dima ha scelto di intraprendere la carriera artistica come acrobata ed oggi si dice innamorato della pista del Circo. After fifteen years dedicated to gymnastics, and a place on the Cuban national team, Darián Cobas began his career in the Circus in 2012. He took an interest in the acrobatic disciplines, and in particular the trapeze, at the Havana Company and the National Circus of Cuba. Later on, at the Cirque du Soleil HQ in Montréal, he cultivated his skills in aerials, going on to work in their Totem production. At this Italian Festival, Darián Cobas is presenting an aerial straps number called ‘Another Day in the Office’: a performance that illustrates the sense of freedom felt by a tired and bored office worker as he imagines himself soaring into another dimension. 🔁QUANDO IL CIRCO ATTINGE ALLE COMPETENZE DEI GINNASTI IL RISULTATO È DI PARTICOLARE IMPATTO SCENICO. Dopo aver dedicato quindici anni alla ginnastica ed aver fatto parte della nazionale cubana per il suo sport, Darián Cobas ha intrapreso la carriera artistica nel mondo del Circo nel 2012. Darián si è appassionato alle discipline acrobatiche, ed in particolare al trapezio, presso la Compagnia de L’Avana ed il Circo di Stato di Cuba. Successivamente ha coltivato la passione per le discipline aeree a Montréal, quartier generale del Cirque du Soleil per il quale ha poi lavorato nella produzione denominata Totem.
